Did B.O.B's Music Become Too WOKE For The Industry? Stunted Growth Music
Today’s feature has to be the most interestingly confusing artist I’ve covered to date, in that he once had the world at his feet with a lane only he could ride in being of his musical talent and background, mixed with perfect timing and success, and then leaned over and flicked it all away, deciding to walk a lonely path of contradicting sounds, personality and thoughts that essentially buried him alive. Not that he can’t be heard, because he still puts out music consistently today and some of it isn’t bad at all. The song “Slizzy Sity” released a year ago is some of his best, recent work, that showcases a bit of what the world fell in love with when it comes to B.O.B. I remember it had to have been maybe 2010, BoB had a show at the university of Missouri with J Cole on probably some college tour, and I got to watch him perform as the featured act. Going there to see J.Cole I knew nothing much about BoB besides the radio songs he had out at that point that pierced your ears all throughout a car ride and made it hard not to sing alone with. But I always chalked it up as just another radio artist, built to have timely success and not much else. Until I saw him perform. My respect grew tons for him, because although J Cole was the hottest traditional rapper on the rise and his set was great, he wasn’t close to the potential I saw that night in BoB. He was creating a lane in hip hop so different, but also exactly what other artist wanted to create but just couldn’t without the musical background he had, and not even he noticed. He couldn’t have. Had he, there’s no way you he’d decide to go away from that, all to be a podium screamer, that now goes triple sandwich bag in recent album sales. Was he too Woke? Did the #flatearth theory cancel him? B.O.B Stunted Growth!
