ELZHI: The Lyricist They Don't Talk About! Why? Stunted Growth Music
Today’s feature is a lyricist hip hop fans hold in high regards especially underground. To even have the honor and prestige to be called that is an accomplishment for any artist because it’s the truest form of what you attempt to do as a rapper. At least used to anyways. Nowadays rappers could care less about similes and metaphors, allegories, creative story telling, using different flows that aren’t trending or coming up with unique concepts to songs like Elzhi’s Fill in the blank game, where he leads listeners to play along on the song “Guessing Game”, “Talking in my sleep” where he paints different pictures of what might go on in his head as he dreams. Stories we all may have but when we wake up it’s difficult to put in context or we can’t remember them at all. Elzhi was right on the borderline of having the privilege to see both sides of how the rap game was and the importance of lyricist, and how it is now, still rapping in the social age where clout matters, personality matters, charisma matters, melodies matter, sales matter, activity socially matters. In some of these areas Elzhi struggled over his rap career and it made the transition from the legendary Slum Village to a solo artist easy to overlook.
