Phyllis Linda Hyman was born on June 6, 1946, and she was the oldest of seven siblings. They all grew up down in the south side of Pittsburgh, chilling in St. Claire village. Phyllis, though, she was something special from the get-go. Like, she had this killer voice, you know? She used to sing in the choir back at Carrick High School, and her music teacher, Dave Tamburi, was blown away. He even hooked her up with some private voice lessons.
