I cite my sources and they may differ than other people's accounts, so I don't guarantee the actual accuracy of my videos.

In the year 2000 radio personality howard stern nearly ruined Enrique Igleasias’s career. The shock jock supposedly apprehended a soundboard mix of the popstar singing and it was pretty awful. In fact, I’m going to play it for you in a bit. Igleasias had already established himself in the latin market starting in the mid 90’s but by 1999 he started to make major inroads in the english language music market with his first english record simply titled Enrique. It would produce several big hits including Rhythm Divine and Be With You.The whole controverys culminated with Igleasias coming on Stern’s show and having to prove he could sing.

By early 2000 Enrique Igleasias career was blowing up. He started off the year performing at the superbowl half time show with Christinia Agulera, Toni Braxton and Phil Collins. In June of that yearradio host Howard Stern would receive a tape from an industry insider claiming he had proof that Iglasias couldn’t sing his own songs. The tape would consist of the 25 year old musician struggling to sing rhythm divine in key & the radio host would play the tape for a week straight and say on his show at the time “Some dude sent me a tape. They’re saying it’s real but I’m not sure if I believe it,” “This is Enrique Iglesias at his concert, an off-the-board feed.”
Stern’s longtime sidekick, Robin Ophelia Quivers, chimed in, saying, “I heard about it. This is real. Apparently, he lip-syncs to a track.”. Stern would jokingly say “I could do better,” “So, who’s singing on the real record?” Stern would ask. Howard Stern’s producer Fa Fa Fooey would claim the tape was given to him by and i quote “someone we consider pretty reliable.” Here’s the actual tape Stern played on his radio show.

The story soon blew up in the press and Igleasias publicist would have to put out a statement claiming they didn’t know the origin of the tape, but doubted it was her client. However the publicist would claim the tape could have come from a european tv appearance where shows frequently ask artists to lip sync. You guys remember the time Iron Maiden lip synced on german tv? The link to that story is down below.
Anyways Enrique’s publicist would put out a statement saying
“Enrique has many times demonstrated his vocal ability through many live television performances in the United States that do not allow artists to lip-sync,” . “In fact, we always choose that he does sing live, with a fully live band, even if given the option of playing to track.

“I have attended numerous live concerts and TV performances by Enrique and always witnessed him singing live. I’m sure numerous TV talent bookers and concert promoters would verify this.” Even a publicist from NBC where Igleasias appeared as a musical guest agreed the singer does perform live.

The controversy conjured up images of an incident that happened 10 years prior when In 1990, it would come out that dance music duo Milli Vanilli didn’t sing to their own music, but rather lip-synced to the voices of two other singers. Mili Vanili would end up being stripped out their grammy. Something Stern said should happen to iglesias as well.
A week after the controversy started, Igelasias would show up to Stern’s studio to prove he could sing. Stern of course also wanted to talk to Igleaseas about his sex life
Iglesias would then perform an acoustic version of “Rhythm Divine.” on the radio show proving he could sing with Stern telling the popstar “Wow. Well, you can sing,” The popstar was able to convince Stern to play his music for several days after his appearnace. Regarding that tape that Stern played Igleasias would admit that that could be his voice and that it likely came from a television appearance where he didn’t sing live, but rather lip synced.
Iglesias would tell Stern and i quote
"If it's me, it's definitely me screwing around,"
"The music is so loud at those tapings, you
