RARE 2001 "GILLIE DA KING" tape.. He talks about CASH MONEY deal, Wallo, and spits FREEST
Back in 2001 I had started a live cypher/battle series called "CYPHER SATURDAY'S" and it was hosted at the SOUNDS OF NORRISTOWN record store (Main St, Norristown PA). On a weekly basis the mini stage and microphone would be open to any MC who wanted to spit. What started out as just cyphers would organically turn into battles once the rappers competitive nature kicked in, and for some it was instantly. On this particular Saturday on October 6 ,2001 we had a cypher earlier in the day (around 1-2pm). Gillie showed up after the cypher was over with his manager Marcus Graham and although there was no crowd, he still gave me a classic interview, classic ac cappella, and ripped the stage and mic as if he was in front of hundreds. He's always been one of the best entertainers I've ever come across. Always professional, always ready to go. No surprise why all these years later he's doing what he's doing now... successful podcast, selling out shows in his hometown, and going viral on YouTube on college football sidelines for doing what he does best, entertaining the people. Also, another gem included in this video is his evident love for his cousin and business partner Wallo that he always held down and gave a shoutout during almost every interview or freestyle interlude. He briefly talks about him being incarcerated and his anticipated discharge years later. Enjoy this 2 Raw For The Streets Gem.
