Tavares - More Than A Woman (Capitol Records 1977)
"More Than a Woman" is a song by the Bee Gees, written by Barry, Robin and Maurice Gibb for the soundtrack to the film Saturday Night Fever. It became a regular feature of the group's live sets from 1997 until Maurice Gibb's death in 2003 and was often coupled with "Night Fever".
The soundtrack includes two versions — one by the Bee Gees and the other by Tavares. Both versions are featured in the film as well.
Tavares' version reached the Pop Top 40 that year. The soundtrack became one of the most successful in history, giving Tavares their only Grammy.
Tavares (also known as The Tavares Brothers) are an American R&B, funk and soul music group, composed of five Cape Verdean-American brothers; Ralph Edward Vierra Tavares (Ralph), Arthur Paul Tavares (Pooch), Antone Lee Tavares (Chubby), Feliciano Vierra Tavares (Butch), and Perry Lee Tavares (Tiny). Born and raised in Providence, RI, they would later move to New Bedford, MA. Tavares was inducted into the Rhode Island Music Hall of Fame in 2014.
Girl I've known you very well
I've seen you growin' every day
I never really looked before
But now you take my breath away
Suddenly you're in my life
A part of every thing I do
You got me working day and night
Just tryin' to keep a hold on you
Here in your arms I found my paradise
My only chance for happiness
And if I lose you now, I think I would die
Oh, say you'll always be my baby, we can make it shine
We can take forever just a minute at a time
You are
More that a woman
More that a woman to me, baby
More than a woman
More than a woman to me
More than a woman
There are stories old and true
Of people so in love like you and me
And I can see myself
Let history repeat itself
Reflecting how I feel for you
And thinkin' 'bout those people then
I know that in a thousand years
I'd fall in love with you again
This is the only way that we should fly
This is the only way to go
And if I lose your love, I know I would die
Oh, say you'll always be my baby, we can make it shine
We can take forever just a minute at a time
You are
More that a woman
More that a woman to me
More than a woman
More than a woman to me
More than a woman
More that a woman
More that a woman to me
You are, more than a woman
More than a woman to me
More that a woman
More that a woman to me
You are, more than a woman
More than a woman to me
More that a woman
More that a woman to me
You are, more than a woman
More than a woman to me
More that a woman
