Jodeci Opens Up on 35 Years of Forever My Lady & Tupac, Michael Jackson & Prince Stories

Jodeci stopped by HOT 97 to talk to Nessa about celebrating 35 years of their classic debut album Forever My Lady and the tour kicking off Wednesday, November 4th. K-Ci and Mr. Dalvin looked back at leaving North Carolina for New York as teenagers with no record deal or money, the chance encounter that led them to Heavy D and Andre Harrell, and how close they came to having to leave New York before their career even started. They also talked about fighting to keep Jodeci’s image authentic, Diddy’s early role in helping bring their vision to life, touring with MC Hammer and Boyz II Men, and how a new generation continues to discover Jodeci through samples, TikTok and artists like Drake and Don Toliver.

K-Ci and Mr. Dalvin also shared some incredible stories about Michael Jackson being a serious Jodeci fan, Stevie Wonder surprising them onstage, a memorable encounter with Prince, and recording “How Do U Want It” with Tupac. They opened up about staying neutral during the East Coast-West Coast rivalry despite pressure to choose sides, K-Ci reflected on his relationship with Mary J. Blige, and Mr. Dalvin talked about where he and T-Boz stand today. They also discussed helping launch the careers of Missy Elliott, Timbaland and others from the Swing Mob era. Plus, Funk Flex unexpectedly stopped by the interview to reminisce with Jodeci about their history in New York.
