After they flee the estate, in a high-speed car chase, the lovers abandon their vehicle and race into the fog-drenched gloom of an ancient graveyard, stealing away to an abandoned gothic chapel. Bound by the forbidden laws of the dynasty that forbid vampires and humans from ever being together, they share a final, desperate union. Choosing eternity over separation, Amara sinks her fangs into Santino, sacrificing his human life to transform him into one of their own. Just as the transition completes and Santino awakens with the cold eyes of a vampire, Vita, Dante, and Luca violently breach the chapel doors—only to freeze in stunned, chilling disbelief as they realize they are entirely too late.
