Tony Sherman is an Antillean soul singer from Haarlem who began his music career with The Young Lovers. In 1967, he achieved second place in a youth competition at the Apollo Theater in Manhattan. A few years later, in 1970, he moved to Amsterdam. In the 1970s, Sherman had hits both as a solo artist and with the Sherman Brothers which whom he hit the charts with "Smile Baby Smile" in 1976. Sherman s biggest solo hits are "Tonight," "As," "I Wrote You a Letter," and "Sing with Me". His last hit was in 1981, singing "Too Big for Words" with Cheyenne band's vocalist Julia Lo’ko. In 1982, he participated in the Stars on 45 project, singing the vocals on "Stars on Stevie", for which he, Jaap Eggermont, and Martin Duiser received the Export Prize. This video was broadcast on TopPop on May 16, 1976.
