Verse 1
Was minding my own business ’til you caught my eye
Your attitude, a little rude, and 6 foot 5
Your eyes are sending me a message, I get it
We haven’t touched yet but the feeling’s electric
Pre Chorus
Ohhh, my head and heart is telling me no But my body’s telling me to let go
Oh, one more drink won’t hurt I suppose
But honestly
Chorus
I just came to dance
(Alone?)
Uh-Huh
You messed up all my plans
(I did?)
Uh-Huh
But I’ll give you a chance
(Say what?)
Uh-Huh
And now I’m saying baby
Got me going crazy
When I just came to dance
Verse 2
You spent the whole night only looking at my lips
I’ve got a feeling this won’t end with just a kiss (mwah)
It might end in tears but it’s too late now, forget it
And if I walk away you know I’ll regret it
Pre Chorus
Ohhh, my head and heart is telling me no
But my body’s telling me to let go
Oh, one more drink won’t hurt I suppose
But honestly
Chorus 2
I just came to dance
(Alone?)
Uh-Huh
You messed up all my plans
(I did?)
Uh-Huh
But I’ll give you a chance
(Say what?)
Uh-Huh
You got me going crazy
Told you baby
I just came to dance
Breakdown
So come closer
I was pushy for a minute now I want ya
Be reckless, come get this
And when we’re done we’ll do it all again for breakfast, ahh
BREAK
Ohhh
Ohhh
Chorus 3
I just came to dance
(Alone?)
Uh-Huh
You messed up all my plans
(I did?)
Uh-Huh
But I’ll give you a chance
(Say what?)
Uh-Huh
And now we’re saying baby
Got me going crazy
When I just came to dance

The Authority On All Things R&B !
On this week's episode of R&B Money, Tank and J Valentine welcome the Legendary Whispers. They discuss how they emerged from the backstage of a high school talent show before scoring their first radio hit with assistance from Sly Stone. Exploring further into their success story, the group discusses forging ahead in spite of numerous adversities while becoming the inaugural act on Soul Train Records - an alliance between Dick Griffey and Don Cornelius that was unfortunately short-lived. Elaborating upon distinctions between the church side of R&B verses the Cadillac side, alongside delving into nuances regarding music industry regulations dating back decades as well as contemporary censorship issues versus what is dispensed today. 00:44 Lebanese singer Fairuz
12:31 Egyptian singer Abdel Halim Hafez
23:09 Algerian singer Warda
35:55 Egyptian singer Nagat El Saghira
Secret love, dramatic performances and breakups are the inspirations for these four song stories from the Middle East, each telling a unique tale.
Lebanese musical icon Fairuz delivered a show-stopping performance in Beirut while her composer husband lay gravely ill.
The romantic themes of Egyptian singer Abdel Halim Hafez’s last song risked offending conservative religious leaders.
Algerian diva Warda al-Jazairia had a very public divorce, immortalising her separation in song.
And Egyptian singer Nagat El Saghira’s most famous song almost never got made.
This four-song tour of the region sheds light and offers new insights into Arab musical achievements, aspirations, people and traditions.

"Tears Are Not Enough" is a 1985 charity single recorded by a supergroup of Canadian artists, under the name Northern Lights, to raise funds for relief of the 1983–85 famine in Ethiopia. It was one of a number of such supergroup singles recorded between December 1984 and April 1985, along with Band Aid's "Do They Know It's Christmas?" in the United Kingdom, USA for Africa's "We Are the World" in the United States, "Cantaré, cantarás" by a supergroup of Latin American and Spanish singers, and "Les Yeux de la faim" in French Canada.
Although recorded independently of the USA for Africa project, it was included on the full-length We Are the World album.
The project was organized by Bruce Allen, who brought together a large group of artists to record a song written by David Foster, Jim Vallance, Bryan Adams, Rachel Paiement, Paul Hyde and Bob Rock. Foster and Vallance wrote the music and initial lyrics, Adams completed the English lyrics, Paiement wrote the one French verse, Rock & Hyde contributed the song title. The song was recorded on February 10, 1985 at Manta Sound studios in Toronto.
The song was issued as a single by CBS Records in March of that year, and quickly reached number one on the Canadian Top 40 chart. It also finished number one on the year-end Canadian charts for 1985. The song's video also received extensive airplay on MuchMusic.
On December 22, 1985, CBC Television aired a 90-minute documentary on the song's creation, which was subsequently released on videocassette. A CBC reporter, Brian Stewart, had been the first Western journalist to bring the famine in Ethiopia to worldwide attention.
By 1990, the project had raised $3.2 million for famine relief projects in Africa. Ten percent of the funds raised were kept in Canada to assist Canadian food banks.

Lebensmelodien, or ‘Melodies of Life’, is a concert series of works written by Jewish composers between 1933 and 1945. The musical pieces are connected by stories of the most inhuman of lived realities; of deadly fear, of destruction – but also of survival. Sung by people who joined together and passed on to provide hope, the Lebensmelodien concert series aims to reintroduce the works – many of which were at risk of fading into obscurity – to the modern public. Not only that: The melodies serve as witness to the mass murder of the European Jews, keeping the memory alive.
Artistic director of the two-year project is Nur Ben Shalom, who researched around the globe in his search for the composers and pieces. He not only performs the music, he also tells the stories of its Jewish creators.
This documentation contains excerpts of one of the concerts – on January 27, 2021, in Berlin’s Synagogue Pestalozzistraße – performed by the Nimrod Ensemble, in which Nur Ben Shalom plays clarinet. The Lebensmelodien are sung by Isidoro Abramowicz, cantor of the synagogue.
The musicians are also accompanied in a rehearsal for a concert at Berlin’s Apostel-Paulus-Kirche. The Apostel Paulus church is a project partner. The Lebensmelodien concert opened the ‘1,700 years of Jewish life in Germany’ anniversary festivities.

Paavo Järvi: The Estonian star conductor has rediscovered the four symphonies by Johannes Brahms. The film follows him and the orchestra at rehearsals, in the studio and at concerts and presents the highlights of the romantic masterpieces.
Part 1: https://youtu.be/B-K3Gan-NA0
Paavo Järvi is principal conductor at both the NHK Symphony Orchestra in Tokyo and the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich - but his most intensive collaboration is with The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie in Bremen. Their collaborations have already inspired both press and audiences with dazzling interpretations of the symphonies of Ludwig van Beethoven and Robert Schumann. Now the conductor and orchestra are focusing exclusively on the four symphonies of Johannes Brahms. "That music - because it is so great - somehow is a soundtrack not only to the time when it was written but it is actually quite a valid soundtrack to our times as well." Järvi says. The charismatic conductor conveys his enthusiasm for the masterpieces and gives important information for understanding them. "There are little hidden codes, which is up to us to figure out what they mean."
The conductor and orchestra take a lot of time to reinterpret these well-known symphonies. "When I conduct Kammerphilharmonie or have conducted them in the last couple of years it’s only been Brahms," he says. "And the focus is so concentrated that it has become a second nature. In fact it’s almost a kind of religious ritual for the orchestra: There is always rehearsal before the concert. It doesn’t matter how many times we have done the piece. And these are the moments where you tweak, you do little things, you fine-tune... It’s a luxury that so few orchestras have." Thus the rehearsals have become a musical laboratory.
The Brahms Code is director Christian Berger’s the third collaboration with The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen and Paavo Järvi. The DW productions "Das Beethoven-Projekt” (2010) and "Schumann at Pier 2" (2012) have already delighted international audiences and won many awards.

Join Berlin Philharmonic horn player Sarah Willis in Havana for a unique musical collaboration combining classical music with Cuban rhythms!
“Mozart should have really been born in Cuba!” This sentiment is at the core of a project combining Mozart and Cuban music. Sarah Willis had the idea years ago, and in 2020, she was able to make her dream a reality.
Sarah Willis is a horn player with the world-renowned Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. She originally travelled to Havana in 2017 to teach a master class. Once on the island, she encountered music everywhere, from salsa, to mambo, to son cubano. There’s hardly a house or street in Cuba that isn’t filled with music. But in the middle of Havana’s old town, there’s a monument commemorating a musician you wouldn’t normally associate with Cuba: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. His compositions are known for their playful ease, joie de vivre, and exceptional musicality – and indeed, there are important commonalities between Mozart and Cuban musicians.
Saxophonist Yuniet Lombida Prieto is one of those musicians. He plays chamber music, jazz and salsa on the most important international stages. Then there is the Havana Lyceum Orchestra under the direction of José Antonio Méndez Padrón. Sarah Willis describes him as having a musical soul, and that he could be a sought-after world-famous conductor. But Padrón chose to stay in Cuba. He has directed his orchestra for decades, and tries to offer talented young musicians new prospects in their home country. Indeed, many young people opt to leave Cuba. Living conditions are difficult due to shortages of goods and problems with infrastructure. Good instruments are hard to come by, and even more difficult to keep in good condition because of high humidity. Performances are rare or difficult to schedule. Those are all challenging conditions for a career as a professional musician.
Sarah Willis has visited Cuba four times to teach master classes. She was deeply impressed by the great skill of the musicians, the joy they exude while playing, and their mastery of the art of improvisation—despite or perhaps as a result of their current circumstances.
And so the project “Mozart y Mambo” was born: a one-time musical experience that combines Mozart’s horn concertos with traditional Cuban music—and includes a mambo version of “A Little Night Music.” An album was recorded in January 2020 and released a few months later. With “Mozart y Mambo,” Sarah Willis wants to increase awareness of the skill and talent of her Cuban musical colleagues. A portion of the proceeds from sales of the recording will also go where they’re desperately needed: acquiring new instruments for the Havana Lyceum Orchestra. The orchestra had planned to travel to Germany in the summer of 2020 to present the project live at large-scale German classical music festivals. But the concerts had to be rescheduled because of the COVID-19 pandemic. They are now set to take place in 2021, when the orchestra will show the world why Mozart should have been Cuban.

Gary Bredow, director: High Tech Soul is the first documentary to tackle the deep roots of techno music alongside the cultural history of Detroit, its birthplace. From the race riots of 1967 to the underground party scene of the late 1980s, Detroit's economic downturn didn't stop the invention of a new kind of music that brought international attention to its producers and their hometown. Featuring in-depth interviews with many of the world's best exponents of the artform, High Tech Soul focuses on the creators of the genre — Juan Atkins, Derrick May, and Kevin Saunderson — and looks at the relationships and personal struggles behind the music. Artists like Richie Hawtin, Jeff Mills, Carl Craig, Eddie Fowlkes and a host of others explain why techno, with its abrasive tones and resonating basslines, could not have come from anywhere but Detroit.

In the documentary "And David Danced: The Magical Music of Ethiopia", the filmmakers capture their impressions of music festivities, rituals and ceremonies stamped with Ethiopia’s links to far older civilizations than that of the Christianity it has embraced, to the Jerusalem of King Solomon and the Egypt of the Pharaohs.
The musical journey begins in the medieval settlement of Lalibela at the time of Timkat, the greatest ceremony of the year. Lalibela is a place surrounded by myths. It is the site of eleven rock-hewn churches, built in the late twelfth or early thirteenth century, often ranked among the wonders of the world. Here the liturgies are celebrated in the same ceremonies that were performed thousands of years ago. At the end of the celebrations, a daptara, one of the learned shamans of the priest caste, sets off to visit other holy places and to give healing and comfort to those in need.
The first stop is a village where a young, childless couple seeks help. Rituals, including an exorcism, the sacrifice of a sheep, and the recitation of magic poems, are carried out. The film captures fragments of life, telling its own story of rituals, festivities, people and beautiful landscapes.

The Secret Disco Revolution juxtaposes disco revisionists against revealing new interviews with the era's biggest stars: The Village People, Gloria Gaynor, Kool and the Gang... A goldmine of rarely seen stock footage, and enough disco hits to shake your booty straight back to 1978.

So it turns out that disco was actually a revolutionary tool that ended the oppression of women and black and **** people in the US. Who knew?
Disco ... more than just a cheesy, glittery music genre, according to The Secret Disco Revolution.
I like disco as much as the next person, which is to say I like it at night, in moderate helpings, and only when accompanied by spirits. Disco has long been the musical genre to caricature rather than savour, best enjoyed in the background on hazy nights out rather than as a legitimate musical experience. So presented with the opportunity to sit through a two-hour disco documentary at the London film festival, I was a bit circumspect.
As you shimmy through the world of disco, you start to believe in its subversive nature. Finding its home in dark nightclubs where class, gender, race and sexual boundaries disappeared completely, early disco was the music that brought people together – all without the music industry's hegemony over the radio and Billboard charts.
Meanwhile, the likes of Gloria Gaynor, Thelma Houston, Martha Wash, KC from KC and the Sunshine Band and Kool from Kool and the Gang bring us back to the reality of being a disco musician, recalling riding the wave from being an underground hit to a record-industry product that was made cheap and sold big.
None of them see themselves as emissaries of the revolution, but by this point you feel a bit sorry for them for not understanding their political worth. KC takes himself particularly seriously, still bitter at the music moguls who tore him away from funk and pushed him to the beats of Get Down Tonight, only to be left to the dogs when rock came along.
As Secret Disco Revolution often reminds us, the kings and queens of the era rarely saw the political statement they were making, and it seems with the Village People, their fans didn't either. But change was happening all the same, and you can't help but respect disco's masterminds – whoever they were – for coming up with such a clever plan.
