SiR: NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert Hotney 1 المشاهدات • منذ 4 سنوات

Watch SiR play "The Recipe", "New Sky" and "Wires In The Way" and "John Redcorn" at the Tiny Desk.

SiR, the R&B singer from Inglewood, CA, seemed lost in thought as he stood behind the Tiny Desk. While his bandmates curiously bounced around the desk, joking and even searching for Bob Boilen, SiR remained particularly focused. About halfway through the performance, he eventually revealed what had been weighing on his heart. He told the NPR crowd he'd lost his infant godson a few days prior and dedicated the performance to him. "We're doing this for him. It took a lot for me to be here today ...but we're gonna get through this."

Since signing to hip-hop juggernaut Top Dawg Entertainment in 2017, Sir Darryl Farris been the most consistent, most reliable player on the roster outside of its original four (Jay Rock, Kendrick, Schoolboy Q and Ab-Soul.) His output has further solidified the label's stake in spaces outside of just rap music.

For his Tiny Desk concert, SiR treated the office to some of the best that his latest LP, Chasing Summer has to offer. Themes of regret loom throughout the album and he's never shied away from writing about personal flaws. His depiction of misdirected desires and heartbreak on "John Redcorn" and "The Recipe" reveal a cruel honesty that couples grapple with at times. The set was also a family affair with his mother and older brother offering support as two of the three background vocalists. We get a glimpse of his upbringing in the gospel choir once those harmonies open up.

"The Recipe"
"New Sky"
"Wires In The Way"
"John Redcorn"

Cracker Island

On cracker Island it was born
To the collective of the dawn
They were planting seeds at night

To grow a made up paradise
Where the truth was auto tuned (forever cult)
But it’s sadness I consumed (forever cult)
Into my formats everyday (forever cult)
in end I had to pay (what world is this)
In the end I had to pay (I purged my soul)
In the end I had to pay (I drank to riot)
Nothing more to say (I drank to riot)

They taught themselves to be occult
They didn’t know it’s many strategies x 2
Fantasies

What world is this? x2

On cracker island it was raised
By the collective from the grave
It only came out at night
It ate up their paradise (paradise)
Where the truth was auto tuned (forever cult)
And it’s sadness I consumed (forever cult)
Into my formats everyday (forever cult)
In the end I had to pay (what world is this)
Out there on my silverlake (I was not there)
In the end it will be great (beneath the hills)
I’m like a ship between the tides (I saw myself)
I held on I survived (there in the void)

They taught themselves to be occult
They didn’t know it’s many strategies x2
Fantasy

On cracker island It will die (forever cult)
Join the collective in the sky (forever cult)
And on a shining boat of light (forever cult)

Go up to paradise (what world is this)
Where the truth is autotuned (I purged my soul)
And it’s sadness I consume (I drank to riot)
Into my formats everyday (I drank to riot)
In the end I had to pay (forever cult)

In the end I’ll have to pay (forever cult)
In the end I’ll be ok (forever cult)

Nothing more to say x3

Those Days

Remember when the street lights came on, we had to be home
Remember when Elm Street came on, couldn’t watch it alone
Remember every prank call we made, and star sixty nine
Remember tryin’ to hit eighty eight, to go back in time
Remember when they played “Purple Rain” to our first slow dance,
Remember when we thought that first base was just holding hands

Those days come back in the dead of night
Those days that felt like another life
What would you be doing back in those days?

We’d be turnin’ up the stereo
And play it everywhere we’d go
And so did everyone we’d know in those days
And everybody got to fall in love
With every movie made for us
And god I couldn’t get enough of those days

Remember every poster we had hangin’ on the wall
Remember every t-shirt we stole, from the local mall
(Ace Of Spades by Motörhead)
Remember Guns N’ Roses came out we were standing in line
Remember front row at that show, camped out all night
(Got so high Sweet Child O’ Mine)

Those days come back in the dead of night
Those days that felt like another life
What would you be doing back in those days?

We’d be turnin’ up the stereo
And play it everywhere we’d go
And so did everyone we’d know in those days
And everybody got to fall in love
With every movie made for us
And god I couldn’t get enough of those days

The time we’d waste cause life could wait
What we’d give to relive just a single day

The time we’d waste cause life could wait
What we’d give to relive just a single day
Instead of turning the page…

We’d be turnin’ up the stereo
And play it everywhere we’d go
And so did everyone we’d know in those days
And everybody got to fall in love
With every movie made for us
And god I couldn’t get enough of those days

Those days that felt like another life
Those days come back in the dead of night
Those days that felt like another life
What would you be doin’ back in those days?
