P.O.D. (Payable on Death) achieved remarkable success, defying expectations as a Christian rock band during the nu-metal era. Emerging from San Diego in 1992, the multiracial group faced both success and challenges. Sonny Sandoval, the vocalist, joined the band after his mother's conversion to Christianity, finding solace in her faith during her battle with leukemia. Wuv's father, who formed Rescue Records, became their manager, reflecting the band's close ties to Christianity.

In their early days, P.O.D. faced skepticism from Christians and skinhead audiences due to their overtly religious lyrics. The band, however, evolved, garnering attention and opening for Cypress Hill, Green Day, and Mighty Mighty Bosstones in San Diego. Their lineup changed in 1994, and they independently released "Snuff the Punk" and "Brown," gaining popularity.

The turning point came when Atlantic Records signed them, leading to their major-label debut, "The Fundamental Elements of Southtown," in 1999. The album, produced by Howard Benson, featured hits like "Southtown" and "Rock the Party," blending rock, hip-hop, and spiritual elements. P.O.D. successfully crossed into mainstream music, touring with Korn, Primus, and headlining their own shows.

In 2001, P.O.D. released "Satellite," coinciding with the 9/11 attacks. The song "Alive" became a symbol of hope, resonating with listeners. "Youth of a Nation" addressed the tragedy of school shootings. Despite mainstream success, P.O.D. resisted the Christian label, emphasizing their music's positive message.

The self-titled album in 2003 marked a change, featuring guitarist Jason Truby. The album's cover sparked controversy, but P.O.D. advocated boycotting stores refusing to carry it. The band faced label issues amid Atlantic's shakeup, impacting their negotiations despite prior success.

In 2006, P.O.D. collaborated with producer Glen Ballard and featured Katy Perry on "Goodbye for Now." The album "Testify" went gold, but tensions with Atlantic led to the band's departure. P.O.D. released "When Angels and Serpents Dance" in 2008, marking the return of original guitarist Marcos Curiel.

Throughout the 2010s, P.O.D. continued releasing albums, including "Murdered Love" in 2012, which sparked controversy over explicit language. They explored diverse sounds in "Circles" (2018), collaborating with Heavy. The band's commitment to positive messaging and connection with fans remained consistent, reflecting in their charitable endeavors and outreach.

As P.O.D. approaches their new album, "Veritas," set to release this year, they continue evolving while staying true to their roots. The band's resilience, diverse influences, and dedication to delivering a positive message have solidified their enduring impact on the music scene.

In the mid-70s, Dead Boys emerged as pioneers in the first wave of punk rock alongside acts like the Ramones. Playing regularly at CBGB, a legendary New York venue, they contributed to shaping the independent music scene. Despite their initial impact, Dead Boys gained notoriety for being one of the most self-destructive and violent bands of their time. However, their story takes an unexpected turn when, almost two decades later, they find recognition through a popular band paying homage to their music.

Originating in Cleveland, Ohio, the band's roots can be traced back to Rocket From The Tombs, formed in 1974. The lineup evolved over time, leading to the recruitment of key members like Peter Laughner, Cheetah Chrome, and Johnny Blitz. After a gig at the Berea Community Center, Stiv Bators joined them on stage, setting the stage for the formation of Dead Boys.

The band's relocation to New York City, supported by Joey Ramone, marked a new chapter. The decision to adopt the name "Dead Boys" was a spontaneous one, and their gritty performances at CBGB soon gained attention. Despite a chaotic lifestyle and confrontations with other punk bands, Dead Boys secured a deal with Sire Records, a subsidiary of Warner Bros. Records, in March 1977. Their debut album, "Young, Loud and Snotty," received critical acclaim, even though it faced commercial challenges.

The band's live performances were known for Stiv Bators' outrageous antics, influenced by Iggy Pop, including crawling through drum kits and inflicting harm on himself. Their shows also attracted rowdy crowds and gained notoriety for explicit lyrics. Despite these controversies, Dead Boys continued to gain popularity and toured with Iggy Pop.

However, their sop****re album, "We Have Come For Your Children," faced challenges during production, leading to creative conflicts with producer Felix Pappalardi. Released in 1978, it received mixed reviews and poor sales. The decline continued as internal tensions grew, exacerbated by Johnny Blitz's stabbing and Cheetah Chrome's struggles with heroin.

Sire Records terminated their tour, leading to the eventual disbandment of Dead Boys. Stiv Bators formed Lords of the New Church, while other members pursued different projects. The band briefly reunited in 1987, experiencing both success and internal conflicts. Stiv Bators suffered a traumatic brain injury in 1990 and tragically passed away.

In 1993, Guns N' Roses covered Dead Boys' "Ain't It Fun," giving the band renewed recognition. The surviving members sporadically reunited for tributes and eventually reformed in 2017 with a new vocalist, Jake Hout. Founded in 1973 by guitar prodigy Randy Rhoads and his friend bassist Kelly Garni, Quiet Riot was a band who struggled to get noticed. Record labels continually passed on the band associating their sound with dinosaur rock, but when the group was offered their first big break they tried to sabotage it. Let’s explore what happened in today’s video.

Two young musicians Randy Rhoads and bassist Kelly Garni would end up recruiting singer Kevin Dubrow in 1973 and formed a band named Mach 1 before changing their name to Little Women. They would eventually land on the monicker Quiet Riot. It wasn’t long before Quiet Riot became one of the hottest bands in LA scene in the late 70’s, but they struggled to get much traction in America. They initially signed a deal with Sony records who released the group’s first two records in Japan. The band’s label felt Van Halen was the official LA band so they got little support stateside. Also adding to the problems was the constant infighting within the group. Rhoads wasn’t a fan of Dubrow and had a different frontman in mind, while Garni and Dubrow would come to blows. Garni would eventually depart the band after he allegedly attempted to kill Dubrow after a drunken episode. Rudy Sarzow soon took his place & Rhoads grew frustrated with the band’s lack of commercial success and infighting leaving the band to Join ozzy osbourne. Once Rhoads left bassist Rudy Sarzo would admit in the book Nothin but a Good time that he felt the band was finished. Sarzo would then follow depart the band and join Ozzy’s band, but following Rhoads death in 1982 he would rejoin Quiet Riot. Replacing Rhoads would on guitar would be Carlos Cavazo.

It would be record producer Spencer Proffer who seemed to be the band’s saving grace. He would reveal in the book Nothin But a Good Time I was driving around LA ….& I heard the 1973 slade version of come on feel the noise on the radio on a pop station. It jumped out of the radio... This was anthem participatory rock. It invited people to participate. I said holy shit if i find a band to sing this song then i might be able to get CBS who i had a deal with to pay attention to me.

Proffer would end up calling his contacts in LA who referred him to a band named Dubrow at that point in time Quiet Riot had temporarily changed their name to Dubrow. Dubrow were known as a band that would do anthemic kind of rock. He would attend one of the band’s shows in LA where they played to a small audience of about 20 people but he witnessed the group playing songs like Bang Your Head and Party All Night, songs that invited the audience to sing along. Following the show he chatted with Dubrow who knew who Proffer was and that he had his own studio called Pasha. Proffer would end up cutting a deal with Dubrow telling them he would give them studio time if they covered come on feel the noise and in return, he would let them record three of their own songs. By this point the band was done with Sony and all the other labels had already passed on them so they agreed to the deal.

During a weekend in the studio with Proffer the band cut the first four songs that would eventually make it on their landmark record, 1983’s Mental Health. Even though the band agreed to Proffer’s deal, Dubrow didn’t want to do a cover of come on feel the noise. According to drummer Frankie Banali he had no issue with doing a cover song, but he would reveal in the same book “Kevin was livid at the idea. He saw himself as the consummate songwriter. He didn’t need to do outside material.” Meanwhile Bassist Rudy Sarzo would add “I witnessed the conversation between kevin and frankie in the studio about how to sabotage that song.” The band felt that if they sabotaged the track, Proffer would forget about it and use the other three songs the band was planning on recording.

In order to sabotage the track, the band would agree not to rehearse the track and play it for the first time in the studio in front of Proffer. Ba
