The REAL Reason R&B Group Soul for Real Got Blacklisted 😔 Hotney 2 Streams • 3 years ago

Some of the best R&B music emerged from the '90s, including songs by the Dalyrimple brothers, better known as Soul for Real. They took over the Billboard charts with their two hit songs, 1994’s “Candy Rain,” and 1995’s “Every Little Thing I Do.”

Backed by their mentor Heavy D, the brothers experienced a brief moment of success, before it all came crashing down. Here's what happened to Soul for Real and the real reason they were blacklisted.

Check in on your strong friends
Check in on your strong friends
How you been my n-gga I’m here if you feel like talking
Check in on your strong friends
Check in on your strong friends
Tap in witcha brother sister we gon keep it solid,
hmmmmmmmmm
We gon keep it solid
Tap in withcha
We gon keep it solid

(Verse 1)
This is a safe space
Say what you gotta say
Nobody perfect
This ain’t about politics
Watch who you calling crazy
That shit is dismissive
You just end up missing
What someone who trusted you tried to say
We all got our differences references preferences
Influences it can be overwhelming
Tryna stay mentally healthy
My people be needing a way of expression
Without fear of judgement or getting arrested
Don’t talk to each other
Just keep it all bottled up
Life can get shaky you blow any second
We forever scared to be punished for sharing
Might even get clowned for opening up now
But I much rather leave you with no room for doubt
If you don’t leave with nothing I hope you get the message

(Hook)
Check in on your strong friends

(Verse 2)
My home girl struggling to keep the perfect image,
spotlight burning, she so photogenic,
her soul got a blemish,
no time to heal it,
pose for the picture,
nobody listening,
oh girl I’m with you,
you ain’t gotta fake it,
you ain’t gotta post a reel,
when you barely know how you’re supposed to feel,
I don’t know how we’re supposed to deal.
But I got a phone you can call me on,
you can open up shit you can’t reseal,
you can air it out we can cry it out,
we can swim through it like a navy seal.
Got a homie locked up,
know he miss his daughter every night he spends,
the mattress getting harder,
know he hate the state and position he in,
as many times as he told himself to move smarter,
I prolly should have called him,
I prolly would have caught it.
Seen him last week and everything was solid,
but every n-gga deserves a break,
come on my n-gga you know you gotta.

Lyrics:
I feel alone in my body
I feel a silence underneath
In these valleys of blood
In these rivers of rust

Shoulder all the blame again
Mirror locked until the end
It was violent and rough
I was never enough

But what if I was stable enough to wind me down the road
Like a remora swims?
But what if I was inside a thousand lives to give my ghost?
It’s never enough
It’s never enough

And I’ve always been ashamed that I want to
Fall into a dream with my honour desecrated
Blood is jaded
I’ve never found a way to be honest
All I know is a place where I haunted memories faded
Blood is jaded

In my dreams all I see is a crimson key
Tethered by a falling string
Meant to turn in the lock for me
I can’t leave so I justify
Interloper of confidence
Under pressure of influence
Not a curse that I caused
Never to rot
But what if I was?
But what if I was?
It’s never enough
It’s never enough

And I’ve always been ashamed that I want to
Fall into a dream with my honour desecrated
Blood is jaded
I’ve never found a way to be honest
All I know is a place where I haunted memories faded
Blood is jaded

I know where I want to go
But you know that it’s too close
And you know that it’s too late this time

And I’ve always been ashamed that I want to
Fall into a dream with my honour

I’ve never found a way to be honest
All I know is a place where I haunted memories faded
Blood is jaded

And I’ve always been ashamed that I want to
Fall into a dream with my honour desecrated
Blood is jaded
I’ve never found a way to be honest
All I know is a place where I haunted memories faded
Love is jaded

What if I was?

"Leveling Up" Lyrics:

You can’t do it like rich finna do it
Who the fuck told you copy my music
I’m the one with the style and influence
How the fuck am I really gon prove it

Drop the tape we gon fuck up the block
On they neck on they ass on they top
Ima give this shit all that i got
Makavelli I’m feeling like pac
Mac a bitch bust her down in my socks
Got leave I ain’t got time to chill
I chase money my mind on m
Need a paper a mfkn pen get the mic cuz I’m gonna go in

Hop on the beat tear the mfkn beat up
Hop on the mic I feel like Ruben senior
singing my heart out I just got to sing it
Whole lotta stick in this mfkn Beamer
Whole lot of money I don’t got a wallet
Richard you alwys just switch up the topic
I got the mind of a mad man I’m buggin
I’m from the west so you know that I’m thuggin
I get him gon by the push of a button
he make a diss on a song he a dummy
Baby Bruddah wrap em up like a mummy
So many body’s got sick to my sto I mach
I’m not reading all these comments they bogus
I’m running shit if you still haven’t noticed

Lalala bomba my Richie a soldier
Hittin this shit till it’s done and it’s over

I gotta roll with the punches I built this shit off if nothing
This shit get filthy as fuck
Sometimes I questions myself Is you doing enough
Then I look up in the mirror it’s really just you that’s involved
You make the calls
You causing problems that none solve
Just gimme a hand or a round of a plause
I need it all I want it all
I’m tryna shine you know I’m tryna ball
A house in the hills with a fence and a lawn
That’s what I wanted I knew all along
I ride with my daughter and show her my songs
When she look at me she say dad you a star
Why they taking pictures and following us
I love this shit and it gimme a rush never say never you never get touched
I’m feeling like meek now I’m leveling up
I don’t understand what I made in a month
I’m spending this shit I ain’t saving enough
I used to be broke then a bitch in my ass
It’s that boy Richard they know ima crash
I got to show em they don’t understand
They used to doubt me I do what I can

Lyrics:
Wet! Wet! Wet! Wet!
Wet! Wet! Wet! Wet!
(I'm shy)
(oh my god)

Stupid boy think that I need him
I go cold like changing seasons
I go red hot like a demon
I go ghost for no damn reason
Stupid boy think that I need him
Stupid boy think that I need him

Pleasing, season, I'm spicy
hot to touch, too much, too pricey
heathen, I'm in your psyche
you don't know no one else like me
(WHOA)

Stupid boy think that I need him
Stupid boy think that I need him

I know you think about me in the shower
Pornhub in your browser
fantasise about the pussy power
think about me with your hand down your trousers
I'm sweet, then I'm sour
I'm big boss Bowser
I know you salivating over me, sir
nipples through the t-shirt
told your mommy that you're bringing home a keeper
knees are getting weaker when he hear me through the speaker
big wood, cut him off, cedar

Stupid boy think that I need him
Stupid boy think that I need him
I go red hot like a demon
I go ghost for no damn reason
Stupid boy think that I need him

Stupid boy think that I need him
Stupid boy think that I need him
Stupid boy think that I need him
I go red hot like a demon
I go ghost for no damn reason
Stupid boy think that I need him

Yung Baby Tate Verse
Stupid Stupid
you dumb goofy, goofy
this pussy juicy, juicy
ooh yummy, wanna do me?
oo nah, boy you could never
cuz you not clever enough
and i got several dummies that wanna get on me
i don't want you and i don't want your homie
cuz both of y'all are suckers, y'all some dum dums
i could play you straight up out your bread
now you got crumb crumbs
i don't really need a man, but sometimes i want one though
so i keep peter pans on me, i got young hundos
(young money, get it?)

Stupid boy think that I need him
Stupid boy think that I need him
I go red hot like a demon
I go ghost for no damn reason
Stupid boy think that I need him

Stupid boy think that I need him
Stupid boy think that I need him
Stupid boy think that I need him
I go red hot like a demon
I go ghost for no damn reason
Stupid boy think that I need him

Nothing about you is attractive to me now
blocking you, avoiding you actively right now
I don't need the dick, I need magic, I need money
puppy wanna lick something sticky just like honey
