R.E.M. remains one of the most influential and successful bands of all time. Before they were in the mainstream, they influenced the mainstream. When they finally entered the mainstream, they permanently changed it. R.E.M. is also one of the few bands to be both critically acclaimed yet extremely popular. And when I say “critically acclaimed,” I mean they are undeniably one of the most critically acclaimed bands of all time. I know, I know, critics are overrated, right? Well, they also have sold more than 90 million records worldwide. R.E.M. was a HUGE reason why “college rock” and “alternative rock” even exist in the first place. Look, when a band literally CREATES new genres of music, they’re kind of a big freaking deal.

So what’s your favorite R.E.M. song and album? My favorite song by them is “Shiny Happy People,” but any time I sing karaoke my first go-to pick is often “It’s the End of the World as We Know It.” My favorite album? That’s a tough one, but yeah I’ll probably go with Automatic for the People to avoid scrutiny down there. Anyway, let me know yours below. Thanks for watching!

Los Angeles California. The city where dreams come true. Palm Trees, beaches, fame and fortune. The city everyone with an entertainment industry dream passes through at some point on their journey. Some are welcomed and have success, some find it difficult to maneuver the course of L.A and soon leave with an understanding that they just weren’t built to play the game. Some even lose their lives either overzealous and ran into the wrong crowd. Today’s fallen city feature once had their own sound be the popular in rap but today seems to have lost its control and their sound. Of course Kendrick Lamar, who’ll probably end up one of the most successful rapper from there when it’s all said and done, is still carrying the torch for Los Angeles, but even then could Kendrick Lamar be placed somewhere else and his sound not change at all? What is the Los Angeles sound in 2022? L.A has made it where as a rapper you have to think is it even worth it before you travel there. Checkin in, murders and a scene seemingly ran by streets codes, ungoverned by whether you’re a street rapper or not. What happened to Los Angeles as far as their sound along with all the bad that comes with traveling to the city, making it lose its place a top hip hop?

One of the biggest labels in rap history started out in the early 80s and their first record wasn't even a rap one. Def Jam, home to some of the biggest rappers and the label behind several classic rap albums had a rise to prominence in music throughout the years.

Lyrics:
Come in
You king of the mountain
Unknown
Survivors
Now reap what they somehow have stole
Don’t give them in inch

I heard a change has begun
I won’t give in to cowards
Your fevers evolved
I won’t become like you

Come in
Is it evidence clashing with confidence
Don’t give em' an inch
It’s just words
Are you meddling to catfish the government
The final abyss

I heard a change has begun
I won’t give in to cowards
Your fevers evolved
The dam has fallen over
They’ve weakened your walls
Except the newer world
Except the newer world

Down inside the longest rabbit
Hole abyss
I heard a change has begun
I wont give in to cowards
Your fevers evolved
The dam has fallen over
They’ve weakened your walls
Except the newer world
Don’t accept what you have heard
Conspiracy addicts

#TommyBoyRecords #HipHop #HouseofPain

Lyrics:
The house of pain is in effect ya'll
The house of pain is in effect
You know the house of pain is in effect
And anyone that steps up is gettin' wrecked
Pack it up, pack it in, let me begin
I came to win, battle me that's a sin
I won't ever slack up, punk you better back up
Try and play the role and yo the whole crew'll act up
Get up, stand up (c'mon!) c'mon throw your hands up
If you've got the feeling, jump across the ceiling
Muggs lifts a funk flow, someone's talking junk
Yo I bust him in the eye, and then I'll take the punk's hoe
Feelin, funkin, amps in the trunk and I got more rhymes
than there's cops at a Dunkin' Donuts shop
Sho' nuff, I got props
From the kids on the Hill plus my mom and my pops
I came to get down, I came to get down
So get out your seat and jump around!
Jump around! (3X)
Jump up, jump up and get down!
Jump! (17X)
I'll serve your ass like John McEnroe
If your girl steps up, I'm smacking the hoe
Word to your moms, I came to drop bombs
I got more rhymes than the Bible's got Psalms
And just like the Prodigal Son I've returned
Anyone stepping to me you'll get burned
Cause I got lyrics, but you ain't got none
If you come to battle bring a shotgun!
But if you do you're a fool, cause I duel, to the death
Trying to step to me, you'll take your last breath
I got the skills, come get your fill
Cause when I shoot the gift, I shoot to Kill
I came to get down, I came to get down
So get out your seat and jump around!
Jump around! (3X)
Jump up, jump up and get down!
Jump! (17X)
I'm the cream of the crop, I rise to the top
I never eat a pig, cause a pig is a cop
Or better yet a Terminator, like Arnold Schwarzenegger
Try to play me out like, as if my name was Sega
But I ain't going out like no punk bitch
Get used to one style and yo and I might switch
it up up and around, then buck buck you down
Put out your head and then you wake up in the Dawn of the Dead
I'm coming to get ya, I'm coming to get ya
Spitting out lyrics, homie I'll wet ya
I came to get down, I came to get down
So get out your seat and jump around!
Jump around! (3X)
Jump up, jump up and get down!
Jump! (33X)
Yo, this is dedicated.. to Joe..DeBerg..Dakota!
Grab your bozack, punk!

From the West Coast and into your eardrums, we have partnered with @SeratoHQ bring you sounds from DJ Khalil.

At an early age, the Seattle-born and LA-raised crate-digger became a staff producer under the legendary Dr. Dre before paving out an illustrious career that led to several Billboard 100 listings and collaborations with some of the most influential figures in #HipHop, such as 50 Cent, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, A$AP Ferg, Remy Ma, Big Boi, Nas, Cypress Hill, Jay-Z, and The Clipse (to name a few). It is safe to say that Khalil is no newcomer to the game.

Now, let us take you on a journey to Amoeba Music, where we get busy the #RhythmRoulette way. Records include music by James Reese, The Delfonics, and The Coupe De Villes. Watch how #DJKhalil uses Serato Studio's new Stems feature to seamlessly isolate samples to create a soulful new beat.

"The technology makes you feel like you are starting it all over again. You're discovering a new approach to being creative."

We haven't had a Dave since the one and only Miami Portnoy. Rapper, comedian, and actor, Lil Dicky been a viral sensation since the rollout of his first hit single "Ex-Boyfriend" in 2013, and has since released multiple successful albums and singles, including "Freaky Friday" featuring Chris Brown and "Earth" featuring numerous celebrity cameos. He's also known for his comedic talent, which he often incorporates into his music videos, live performances, and hit TV show loosely based on his own life and experiences, "Dave". We dive into his process and journey from going out on a limb and spending his bar mitzvah money on music videos to working with legends like Snoop Dogg.
