The West-Eastern Divan Orchestra conducted by Daniel Barenboim performs Beethoven's Ninth Symphony at the Berlin Philharmonic. It's supported by singers Angela Denoke, Waltraud Meier, Burkhard Fritz and René Pape. The West-Eastern Divan Orchestra is a very special ensemble: It is made up of young Israeli and Arab musicians and is campaigning for a peaceful solution to the Middle East conflict. The West-Eastern Divan Orchestra, which was founded in 1999, gives concerts all over the world. Proceeds from the concert in Berlin went to the Barenboim-Said Academy, which supports musical education programs.
The 9th Symphony in D minor op. 125 is the last finished symphony by the composer Ludwig van Beethoven. The work was premiered in Vienna on May 7, 1824 in the presence of Beethoven, who was already completely deaf and was a complete success. The fourth movement is also known as "Ode to Joy" and is one of the most popular songs in the world. Since 1985, the main theme of the
last movement has been the official European anthem.

If you’ve ever seen an orchestra perform you’ve probably had a difficult time looking away from the person dead center on the stage – the conductor. It’s hard to miss someone as they swing their arms around pointing at the musicians that seem to be focused instead on their music stands. So what exactly is the conductor doing?
We decided to ask James Gaffigan – a conductor who recently guest conducted the New York Philharmonic in Central Park – just what it is that makes a conductor so necessary and how their actions shape the performance.

About Guido Dieteren (The Maestro):
Guido Dieteren (1974) an orchestra leader, violin soloist, arranger, and composer. He grew up in a special musical Limburg family in The Netherlands. Guido his great-grandparents, grandfather, and father were all conductors and with that his great musical examples. At an early age, he established his name as a concertmaster and soloist, before continuing his career as a conductor, violinist, and soloist on tours throughout Europe and around the world.
During his conservatory studies in Maastricht, Guido approached his childhood friend and pop keyboard player Falco Borsboom to compose and arrange together for a new smashing orchestra production. The Maestro & The European Pop Orchestra was born!
Since then, Guido founded The European Pop Orchestra. Together with his musicians, Maestro Guido has provided worldwide concerts, composed and arranged music for commercials such as McDonald's, Rabobank, WWF, Dela, and AllSecur, played many TV shows, released several gold CDs and DVDs, produced large TV specials in many world languages and performed live for more than 1.8 million visitors. Guido collaborated artistically and as musical director with many international stars such as Lionel Richie, Andrea Bocelli, Diana Ross, VoXXclub, DJ AfroJack, Simply Red, André Rieu, Caro Emerald, Alessandro Safina, Marco Borsato, Og3ne, Doe Maar, Anouk, Jan Smit, Nick and Simon, Paul de Leeuw and many others. The Maestro is available for performances worldwide, including and excluding the Orchestra.
Guido is also completely private with The European Pop Orchestra. Guido got married in 2006 to the solo singer of the orchestra, Wendy Kokkelkoren. After the first concert together, the spark broke and their romance started, since then they are inseparable. Together Guido and Wendy form a happy musical family with their daughters Emma-Sophie and Annabel. Both daughters love to be on stage and perform together with their parents.

▶Lyrics:
I used to rule the world
Seas would rise when I gave the word
Now in the morning, I sleep alone
Sweep the streets I used to own
I used to roll the dice
Feel the fear in my enemy's eyes
Listen as the crowd would sing
Now the old king is dead! Long live the king!
One minute I held the key
Next the walls were closed on me
And I discovered that my castles stand
Upon pillars of salt and pillars of sand
I hear Jerusalem bells are ringing
Roman Cavalry choirs are singing
Be my mirror, my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field
For some reason I can't explain
Once you go there was never, never a honest word
And that was when I ruled the world
It was a wicked and wild wind
Blew down the doors to let me in
Shattered windows and the sound of drums
People couldn't believe what I'd become
Revolutionaries wait
For my head on a silver plate
Just a puppet on a lonely string
Oh, who would ever want to be king?
I hear Jerusalem bells are ringing
Roman Calvary choirs are singing
Be my mirror, my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field
For some reason I can't explain
I know Saint Peter won't call my name
Never an honest word
But that was when I ruled the world
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
I hear Jerusalem bells are ringing
Roman Calvary choirs are singing
Be my mirror, my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field
For some reason I can't explain
I know Saint Peter won't call my name
Never an honest word
But that was when I ruled the world

Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 6 in B minor, Op. 74, also known as 'Pathétique', is one of the very great symphonies in the history of music. The famous work was performed by the Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Marek Janowski in this concert at the Kulturpalast Dresden 2019.
(00:00) I. Adagio - Allegro non troppo
(17:32) II. Allegro con grazia
(24:54) III. allegro molto vivace
(33:49) IV. Finale: Adagio lamentoso
Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky (1840 - 1893) took just a few months to compose the Sixth Symphony and he conducted its premiere himself in St. Petersburg on October 28, 1893. Initially Tchaikovsky had called his Sixth 'A Programme Symphony', but after the premiere he unceremoniously gave it the epithet 'Pathetique' – and that is how it has gone down in history.
According to Tchaikovsky, the actual program is full of subjective emotions and is meant to remain a mystery. The 6th Symphony is characterized by a mixture of conventional symphonic structure and certain tragic features. Tragic, for example, is the key of B minor, which is considered somber, and the motif of the falling second, which runs through the entire work like a lament. The sweeping third movement, which seems like a triumphant finale, is surpassed by the fourth movement, which has always been interpreted as a requiem that Tchaikovsky wrote to himself in advance since the Russian composer died only a few days after the premiere of his Symphony No. 6, which received a restrained response.
The second performance of the Pathétique, on the other hand, was a great success, and to this day this frequently performed work is an audience favorite. Tchaikovsky's Pathétique Symphony owes its fame not least to the yearning, melancholy second theme from the first movement (04:32).

Classical music generally refers to the formal musical tradition of the Western world, considered to be distinct from Western folk music or popular music traditions. It is sometimes distinguished as Western classical music, as the term "classical music" also refers to non-Western traditions which exhibit similar formal qualities. In addition to formality, classical music is often characterized by complexity in its musical form and harmonic organization, particularly with the use of polyphony. Since at least the 9th century it has been primarily a written tradition, spawning a sophisticated notational system, as well as accompanying literature in analytical, critical, historiographical, musicological and philosophical practices. A foundational component of Western Culture, classical music is frequently seen from the perspective of individual or groups of composers, whose compositions, personalities and beliefs have fundamentally shaped its history.

On May 7, 1824, Beethoven shared his 9th Symphony with the world even though he could never hear it. On May 7, 2015 celebrate the anniversary of Beethoven’s most glorious and jubilant masterpiece with Riccardo Muti and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Chorus. An exhilarating testament to the human spirit, Beethoven’s Ninth bursts with brooding power and kinetic energy and culminates in the exultant hymn, “Ode to Joy.”The video is now available free on demand for all to enjoy! - See more at: http://cso.org/beethoven9
