Angela" - Theme from "Taxi" - by Bob James - (Rhodes cover)
If you have a Rhodes electric piano, you have to play the theme from the TV show "Taxi." That's just a given. Unfortunately, I'm not really a jazz player, so the middle section is not improvised. I'm playing basically just what is written in the sheet music I got from musicnotes.com. When I bought this 1979 Rhodes Mk 1 Suitcase Seventy-Three, it was in desperate need of some TLC. Overall, it was in decent shape, but the speakers had been removed from the suitcase, and the amplifier wouldn't even power on. To get around this, the preamp had been heavily modified in order to work as a Stage model, without the suitcase. With a little help from the good folks at Vintage Vibe (in New Jersey), and Avion Studios (in Missouri), I completed a partial restoration on this beauty to bring it back to life. I installed four new Jensen C12K speakers in the suitcase, and replaced the grill cloth. Under the lid, I gave her all new tone bar screws, washers, and grommets, as well as new hammer tips. Vintage Vibe refurbished the amplifier and restored the preamp to its original stock configuration. Finally, I cleaned and reconditioned the Tolex, and replaced all the chrome pieces, handles, and name badges. I dare say, she is stunning to look at, and plays like a dream.
