Dave East: Stunted Growth Music: In 2014 hip hop really wanted a guy like today’s feature. At the time hip hop was a melting pot of different style within the culture, that gave you a different fix no matter what you enjoyed and for different reasons they all were able to co exist and have success. You had west coast hip hop in YG, who topped the charts and was named by billboard as having the top rap album in the game that year. Run the Jewels repping for yesteryear hip hop, J Cole as one of the younger hip hop artist carrying the torch for rap as it was once known, then there was the Migos, braggadocios Southern hip hop guaranteed a hit on radio and in the clubs, Jeezy, Schoolboy Q, Kevin Gates, Big Krit, Future, Young thug…It was maybe the final year where you could find this sort of diversity in the genre and enjoyment no matter what you liked. An era Dave East should’ve flourished in. He was supposed to become the new era's Nas possibly, but that never happened. Still a decent rapper, but couldn't take it to the next level.
