Face Full of Cake is the band's first LP in 12 years and their first on Capitol Records. The record marks their first with new bass player Jack Daley who joined the band full-time in 2021. Recorded in Asbury Park, the fabled incubating ground of Bruce Springsteen And The E Street Band’s epic, Born To Run, Spin Doctors cut Face Full Of Cake by the wintry shores of New Jersey, cloistered in the creative atmosphere of Daley’s studio Dug Deep Productions. Engineered and mixed by Grammy Award winning maestro, Roman Klun, the album features a combination of the easy-going hook-forward songs and freewheeling jam sensibilities they’ve always exhibited with bluesy funk flavor and straightforward rock’n’roll.

“I love the title. The band sent it me and I was like, “This is great. I’m keeping that.” But the lyrics are an action against that title. Because if we allow our fatalism or our negativity to really take over, we will crumble. It’s about a city, in my case, Los Angeles, but it could be anywhere where bad stuff is happening. After the George Floyd murder, which is one of few things in my life that I wish I’d never seen: I was changed entirely by seeing the footage of that cop kneeling on George Floyd’s neck. In Los Angeles there were huge protests and a lot of upheaval after that. Above our house in Hollywood, there were helicopters all day long, for days on end. Video conceptualised and directed by the digital artist Laurent Askienazy.

Tim first became aware of Laurent’s photographs over twenty years ago and has remained a fan as Laurent became an early adopter of using computer generated imagery to produce his art.

Laurent made the video for Aerial Troubles using AI as a tool - creating images, looking for ways to animate and manipulate them, finally assembling them and generating sequences.

This process includes slow motion, repetition and overall rhythm, just like a traditional editing process.
