Teen With Autism Sings Like John Mayer Hotney 8 Streams • 3 years ago

While asking random people to sing at NAMM, I meet Ryan Woodard. What I learn about Ryan is quite interesting. He deals with Autism which has limited his verbal expression. But he has found his expression through music, which had him be more verbal and more confident in himself. In this video, we sing a song together for the people at NAMM and for the parents who raised him.

When asking People to sing in New York City, I met Alex. Alex saw my sign and patiently waiting for her turn to sing. Even though she's a trained singer, she reveals to me that she does not want to identify as a singer-- she only wants to sing for fun. I tell her that she's come to the perfect place to sing for fun. I was so glad to get to catch up with Mauri and have him sing another song, as his voice and personality are unique! Hopefully this becomes a recurring event for Mauri and I, getting to do this again at next year's NAMM!

Here I am asking random people to sing in NYC, and a lot of people are saying. But Josh says yes! He is on his way to a concert. But little did he know, he would put on a concert for his friend right on the street!

Also met Signe who sings the second song. At first she seems a little shy, but her family encourages her to sing. As she sings, she gets more comfortable and her family watches in amazement!

I intended to shoot "Sing WIth Me" in front of the Golden Gate Bridge. But when I showed up to film, the bridge was....CENSORED by FOG (omg!!!). I was REALLY disappointed. And then, faced with a decision to cancel the shoot or film anyway. I chose to film anyway because of a coin toss. And here's why I'm glad I did:

Turns out, so many people were disappointed by the lack of the Golden Gate Bridge (including those who flew from outside the country just to see it). But THIS Chinese man named CJ set the theme for the whole day: Even in times of disappointment, let's sing, have fun, and appreciate life ANYWAY. All I can say is, I'm GLAD I did not cancel.

I met Greg while asking people to sing in the 14th street/8th avenue subway in NYC. At first I was taking a quick snack break while my team member changed the batteries. Then, I'm told that a gentleman in a blue shirt wants to sing. So I quickly finish my snack and pick up the guitar. We pick a song, and Greg puts on the most energetic performance I have seen in a while!

As a musician, I'm all about creating musical experiences that have people feeling happy and free, and that's why the "Sing With Me" series exists. Since 2018, I have asked thousands of random people to sing with me on camera. A lot of people have said no, some have said no initially but changed their minds to yes, and some have said yes right away. I ask these people to sing with one purpose: to create a way for them to experience a sense of happiness and freedom they did not feel before.
