The schedule was now becoming predictable for the group, recording was followed by constant promoting and that followed by back-to-back concerts and so and so on. Carl Douglas, born on May 10, 1942, in Kingston, Jamaica, is a Jamaican-British singer best known for his international hit "Kung Fu Fighting." Released in 1974, this song became an unexpected worldwide sensation and grew into one of the most iconic disco tracks of the seventies. "Kung Fu Fighting" was written by Douglas and produced by Biddu Appaiah. The song, inspired by the popularity of kung fu films at that time with Bruce Lee, was recorded in just ten minutes as the B-side of another single. To everyone's surprise, "Kung Fu Fighting" shot up the charts and reached the number one position in both the United Kingdom and the United States. Over 11 million copies were sold worldwide. Although he released several other tracks, none could match the success of "Kung Fu Fighting." This Toppop recording is from December 7, 1974. At the beginning of the videoclip host Ad Visser and Carl Douglas end up in a kunfu fight. Guess who wins.

The band sold 13.5 million records by 1973 but disbanded in 1974. The Shocking Blue were founded in 1967 by The Motions guitarist Robbie van Leeuwen. Other members of the group at this time were Fred de Wilde, Klaasje van der Wal (1 February 1949 – 12 February 2018) and Cor van der Beek (9 June 1949 – 2 April 1998). They had a minor hit in 1968 with "Lucy Brown is Back in Town". De Wilde left in 1968 after joining the Dutch army, and van Leeuwen was introduced to Mariska Veres, singing at that time with a club band. He persuaded her to take over the vocals, and the group recorded a worldwide hit with the song "Venus" which peaked at number three in the Netherlands in autumn 1969. The song was released in the United States and the United Kingdom at the end of the year and reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in February 1970. It subsequently sold 350,000 copies in Germany and topped the U.S. chart for three weeks, the first song from the Netherlands to do so. It sold over one million copies there by January 1970 and received a gold record awarded by the Recording Industry Association of America. Global sales exceeded five million copiesMaria Elisabeth Ender, better known as Mariska Veres (1 October 1947 – 2 December 2006), was a Dutch singer who was best known as the lead singer of the rock group Shocking Blue. Described as being similar to a young Cher, she was known for her sultry voice, eccentric performances, and her striking appearance which featured kohl-rimmed eyes, high cheekbones, and long jet black hair, which was actually a wig. The group had many other hits before they split up in 1975. In 1979 a reunion attempt was made, but it lasted only two years. Shocking Blue was resurrected in a new line-up in 1993 with Mariska Veres, but without Robbie van Leeuwen. This formation continued until the death of Mariska Veres in December 2006. This performance was part of the celebration of the 75th Anniversary of the AVRO in a Toppop tv special presented by Ad Visser in 1998.

On june 11th, 1976 a very special concert took place in the studio's of the dutch TROS tv-programme "Music all Inn". The audience witnessed a great concert of Gladys Knight and (her family group) the Pips, and as a special guest starred Al Foster, the drummer who played for a long time with Miles Davis. Here Gladys performs "Midnight train to Georgia". Songwriter Jim Weatherly created this song, that was originally titled "Midnight plane to Houston". Starlett (and the later actress) Farah Fawcett was on the phone with Jimmy, when she suddenly said she had no time, because she had to take the plane to Houston"... The song was inspired by the story of Fawcett and her friend/husband Lee Majors. Short story: a girl comes to L.A., doesn;t make it and takes a plane home. The guy accompanies her. The song was an instant success, but became really famous when Gladys Knight and the Pips recorded it as :Midnight train to Georgia".

'Give Me The Night' as performed by George Benson at the North Sea Jazz Festival 1987 George Benson (born March 22, 1943 is an American musician, guitarist, and singer-songwriter. He began his professional career at 21 as a jazz guitarist. Benson uses a rest-stroke picking technique similar to that of gypsy jazz players such as Django Reinhardt. Benson performed many times at the North Sea Jazz Festival. This fantastic performance was recorded by AVRO Television on 12th July, 1987 at the Garden Pavillion, Congressgebouw, The Hague, The Netherlands, 12 July 1987. It also features special guest guitarist Earl Klugh.
