As the fires of severe cellular intergenerational trauma and heart shattering cyclical violence rage, consuming so many of our children (all children, our children) & the polarization of our one human family has reached crisis levels— I rededicate myself to the mission and currency of art — empathy & connection.

We don’t have to hide from our history, we just have to face it. And walk through it together.

Our trauma can be the mother of empathy, of compassion, of equal human understanding, of Truth, Reconciliation, Reparation, Forgiveness, of loving coalition and harm reduction.

“Demons” is about looking our traumas, our fears, our pain — on the micro and macro levels in the face— and not letting them drive the bus. It’s a call to courage and coalition. Worlds within worlds. Imagine a world where our ideologies never subsume our equal and shared humanity…

Lift us up to that good fight/ can we carry that song, that shield, that crown/ every last child in every last town”

This Demons video marks my inaugural creative collaboration with my beloved childhood friend, fellow Montrealais & birthday twin Ethan Tobman. Ethan’s visual genius takes my breath away. He is the creative director of the incomparable Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour, he did the set design for Queen Bey’s iconic Formation and Lemonade videos and I am beyond honoured that he chose to make his music video directorial debut with me and with this song.

Ethan wrote & directed an intuitive, sumptuous, layered, kinetic visual narrative for Demons. Worlds within worlds. Shot over 3 days in Prague with Zizou & her incredible rainbow coalition of dancers — this was the most joyful cross-disciplinary adventure. The “Demons” video is executive produced by our brilliant chosen brother, fellow Montrealer & childhood friend , Jacob Tierney (Letterkenny, Shoresy, The Trotsky, Twist).
