There are few bigger pop stars in the world right now than classically trained flautist-turned-singer, Lizzo. Her fans love her not just for her music but also for how candid she is. As she says, she’s unapologetically a big, black beautiful woman.

But a few days ago, the entertainment world was shocked when the artist was accused of gross hypocrisy. Three of Lizzo’s former back up dancers announced they’re suing her, claiming they were body-shamed and sexually harassed. Lizzo has vehemently denied any wrongdoing, meaning a court will probably determine the veracity of the allegations.

Just before this controversy blew up, Tom Steinfort was given an exclusive glimpse behind the scenes of Lizzo’s Australian tour.

Half a million people descended on a cow paddock in up-state New York for three days of peace, love and protest. Naturally, the oldies were outraged and, just as naturally, Woodstock became a lasting symbol of the 60s revolution. And we're pleased to report that even today, the spirit of Woodstock still beats in the hearts of many an old hippie.

The Beatles made just one television appearance in Britain to promote the Help! album; other shows had to run pre-recorded clips instead.
Blackpool Night Out was made by ABC TV, and was filmed at the ABC Theatre in Blackpool. It was shown by all but one of the ITV companies across the UK, in a live broadcast between 9.10pm and 10.05pm.
The group closed with Help!, following John Lennon's tongue-in-cheek announcement to McCartney: "Thank you Ringo, that was wonderful".

On this date, February, 9th, 51 years ago, 1964, The Beatles made their first American appearance playing live on The Ed Sullivan Show in front of an estimated television audience of 73 million Americans. Ed Sullivan introduced The Beatles, and was almost immediately drowned out by the screams of girls in the studio audience, many of them fainting. The Beatles continued to play twice that evening, and “Beatlemania” had officially arrived stateside. The exposure of The Beatles on The Ed Sullivan Show in 1964 became a touchstone event for an entire generation and for music lovers everywhere.

Never before had so many viewers tuned-in to a live television program, which with an estimated 73 million viewers, was three-fourths of the total adult audience in the United States. A music group from England had never crossed over into American culture in such a way, and, at the time, it wasn't too common for a variety television show to book an English rock band. However, because Ed Sullivan traveled to England frequently, and had a great eye for talent, The Beatles caught his attention and earned a slot on his popular variety program on CBS.

Ed Sullivan had seen the crowds of Beatles fans at London Airport trying to catch a glimpse of the band on their way back from touring Sweden in 1963. Again in 1963, The Beatles and Ed Sullivan’s paths collided, when he personally witnessed another huge airport reception before The Beatles played the Royal Variety Show. It became incredibly clear that The Beatles had made quite an impact in England, and were ready to ignite teenagers in America with their catchy pop songs, adorable personalities and witty banter.

“I made up my mind that this was the same sort of mass hit hysteria that had characterized the Elvis Presley days.” With that, Ed Sullivan booked The Beatles American debut, which became a pivotal moment in American cultural history. In fact, many baby boomers still ask each other, “where were you when you heard The Beatles sing for the first time on The Ed Sullivan Show?”

Paul: "There were millions of kids at the airport, which nobody had expected. We heard about it in mid-air. There were journalists on the plane, and the pilot had rang ahead and said, 'Tell the boys there's a big crowd waiting for them.' We thought, 'Wow! God, we really have made it.' "

On Friday 7th February, 1964, The Beatles landed at Kennedy airport and were immediately thrust into their now-legendary first press conference there. The place was heaving with rabid reporters, seasoned journalists and camera crews from all over the world.

From there, they took a limo to the Plaza Hotel, where they stayed during their time in NYC. The Beatles' suite was a hub of activity - a place where they anticipated, prepared for and then relaxed after each of the milestone events that they were experiencing in such quick succession. They would await phone calls from journalists or to receive news of how their songs were doing in the charts; they gave in-person interviews, there, and watched themselves on television. Often, they would call into radio stations to request their favourite records.

Bit by bit, they were getting a sense of 'America'. Still, they were tired. It had been a long trip - a long day. And George, it turns out, was coming down with flu...
