'Alone' is no 614 in the Top 2000 of best songs ever in the Netherlands!
'Alone' is the ultimate power ballad from Heart, written by Billy Steinberg and Tom Kelly.
American rock band Heart covered it on their 1987 album 'Bad Animals', and this version reached number one in the US and Canada.

Heart is an American rock band formed in 1967 in Seattle, Washington as The Army. Two years later, The Army changed their name to Hocus Pocus, then they changed their name again to White Heart a year later, but eventually changed the name a final time to Heart in 1973. By the mid-1970s, original members Roger Fisher (guitar) and Steve Fossen (bass guitar) had been joined by sisters Ann Wilson (lead vocals and flute) and Nancy Wilson (rhythm guitar, backing and occasional lead vocals), Michael Derosier (drums), and Howard Leese (guitar and keyboards) to form the lineup for the band's initial mid- to late-1970s success period. These core members were included in the band's 2013 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Heart rose to fame with music influenced by hard rock and heavy metal, as well as folk music. The band's popularity declined in the early 1980s, but the band began a successful comeback in 1985 which continued into the mid-1990s. Heart disbanded in 1998, resumed performing in 2002, went on hiatus in 2016, and resumed performing in the summer of 2019. Heart's US Top 40 singles include "Magic Man" (1975), "Crazy on You" (1976), "Barracuda" (1977), "What About Love" (1985), "Never" (1985), and "All I Wanna Do Is Make Love to You" (1990), along with no. 1 hits "These Dreams" (1986) and "Alone" (1987).

"Alone" became Heart's biggest hit. It was their second number 1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 after "These Dreams" and stayed at number one for three weeks. It ranks second in the chart of the year's biggest hits, only behind "Walk Like an Egyptian" by The Bangles. The song was also a big hit in Europe, reaching number 3 in the UK Singles Chart in the United Kingdom.

Michael Derosier – drums, percussion
Denny Carmassi – drums, percussion
Mark Andes – bass, backing vocals, occasional acoustic guitar

This unique performance was filmed by TROS tv on May 21, 1987 in the Netherlands.

In de lijst met grootste hits van het jaar staat het op de tweede plaats, enkel achter "Walk Like an Egyptian" van The Bangles. Ook in Europa was het nummer een grote hit, zo bereikte de plaat in het Verenigd Koninkrijk de 3e positie in de UK Singles Chart.

In Nederland was de plaat op vrijdag 19 juni 1987 Veronica Alarmschijf op Radio 3 en werd een gigantische hit. De plaat bereikte de 6e positie in zowel de Nederlandse Top 40 als de Nationale Hitparade Top 100. In België bereikte de plaat de 8e positie van de Vlaamse Ultratop 50.

1984 was an astonishingly prolific year in Prince’s career. Just months before releasing his watershed soundtrack and film, Purple Rain, Prince was deep into preparations for his massive Purple Rain Tour while also writing and recording nearly a song a day for proteges like Sheila E., The Time, and The Family. One of those singles, “Manic Monday,” would become a breakout hit for the Bangles. Their version of the song skyrocketed to number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1985, just behind Prince’s number 1 hit “Kiss.”

All these years later, the Bangles’ Susanna Hoffs still remembers how entranced she was when she first heard Prince's original rendition of the song. "I knew it was an incredible gift," she told the New York Times. "It was like putting on the slipper in a fairy tale."

For over 30 years, she and her Bangles bandmates were some of the only people in the world to have heard it — until now.

Prince's rendition of "Manic Monday" is one of the 15 tracks on the new album Originals, a collection of Prince's versions of the hit songs he gave to other artists. Out now on Warner Records, Originals also includes Prince’s original performances of “Jungle Love,” “The Glamorous Life,” “Sex Shooter,” and more.

Together with archival footage from his vault — which captures Prince rehearsing with his band, The Revolution, for their massive Purple Rain Tour — these recordings provide a rare window into Prince’s creative process in this wildly productive era.
