Artifacts - Wrong Side Of Da Tracks Hotney 14 Streams • 2 years ago

From the 1994 Album: "Between a Rock and a Hard Place"...(Click "show more" for artist info)...

Artifacts is a hip hop group consisting of El Da Sensei, Tame One and DJ Kaos. They hail from Newark, New Jersey and made underground music that paid homage to the four elements of hip hop. The Artifacts' most popular single "Wrong Side of Da Tracks" paid special homage to graffiti art, as they were graffiti artists themselves.

They released their first album, Between a Rock and a Hard Place on October 27, 1994. Well received by underground hip hop audiences, it featured b-boy and graffiti themes. The album's beats were produced by Buckwild (from the DITC crew) and T-Ray (from the Soul Assassins crew). The Artifacts' second album, That's Them was released on April 15, 1997. It featured similar material, but it did not receive as much recognition as their debut effort. The Artifacts split soon after the release of this second album.

Tame One and El Da Sensei have both continued to release music as solo artists. In 2003, Tame One joined the Weathermen, an underground rap group including Cage Kennylz, Camu Tao, Aesop Rock, and El-P. Soon after joining the Weathermen, Tame One and Cage released the album Waterworld under the name Leak Bros. In 2009, Tame ONe collaborated with another member of the Definitive Jux label, releasing the album Parallel Uni-Verses with Del the Funky Homosapien. El Da Sensei has released a number of solo albums and collaborated with the Polish rap group The Returners in 2008, as well as East Coast-based group, The Immortals Project in 2009.

In August 2009 at the Rock Steady Crew Anniversary Weekend in Newark, New Jersey, Artifacts briefly reunited during a performance by El Da Sensei. According to Tame One the duo have not reconciled their differences but when he heard the horn riff which introduces "Wrong Side of Da Tracks", he felt like performing it. The impromptu reunion has not led to any official reunion.

On August 2, 2010 at The Rock Steady Crew 33rd Anniversary Celebration in Newark, New Jersey, both El Da Sensei and Tame One along with DJ KAOS performed officially as The Artifacts. They performed several songs from their respective catalogs as well as Artifacts material at this show. It is confirmed that they are indeed back together and in the process of collaborating on a new Artifacts album.

LYRICS
Written By: Clay Sharpe, Brian King, Cameron Cruce
VERSE 1 (Clay Shape)
I got to get away sometimes and hold on to that sunrise it’s the only thing I can still feel
With this old leather suitcase I’m leaving this new place
Cause it’s hard to tell what's fake from the real
I hang my head low, I pray I don’t lose control cause I’m holding right
on by 6 strings
The choices I’ve made when these boots walk away, I hope all of my angels will sing

CHORUS (Crucifix)
Now I know my heart has gone cold
It must’ve been the rebel in me
I sold my soul down at them cross roads
But that’s just between the devil and me
That’s just between the devil and me. (2x)

VERSE 2 (Brian King)
Between the whiskey and the sad songs and the memories of the past on's
I slip on into the night just to walk along that edge
Like gypsy drifting back home but what'll you do when that's gone
Better get your ass out of sight so maybe you'll just forget
Tell me how you get back naw I know what I did wrong
Did so much, raising hell that hell is all I know
Tell me how you just sit back and watch me get stoned
That devil's due is cumbersome and never leave's you alone

========= Soldier Of Heaven LYRICS ==========

I won’t be coming home
I won’t be going anywhere
I will guard this post forever
Here on the alpine slope where I did my final stand I shall remain
Among the ice and snow that binds me to this mountain

A force of nature too strong, sent from above
Where spirits lead the way, the winds will never fade

White Friday, I’ll take the
Stairway to heaven
I’m sky high, when I die
I’ll be immortal
Forever, I never
I won´t return to
Blood Mountain, I am the
Soldier of heaven

I saw the end of war
I watched the soldiers come and go
And I kept my watch forever
So many brave men fell in the battles that were raging down below
I have seen it all but none will hear my story

All of these years I have been frozen in time
I cried for spring to come but here, winter remain

I always dreamed that I would, serve high above
Where spirits lead the way, the winds will never fade

========= Historic Fact =============

High above in the alps close to heaven, in the most extreme circumstances, men fought and protected the borders during WWI. At 23:30 on April 17, 1916, the Italians, who were up against the Austro-Hungarian Empire, detonated 5,000kg of Nitro-Gelatine to secure the Col di Lana summit.

LYRICS:

Oh I leave quite an impression
Five feet to be exact
You’re wondering why half his clothes went missing
My bodies where they’re at
Now I’m gone but you’re still layin’
Next to me
One degree of separation

(I) Heard you’re back together and if that’s true
You’ll just have to taste me when he’s kissing you
If you want forever and I bet you do
Just know you’ll
Taste me
Too

Uh huh

He pins you down on the carpet
Makes paintings with his tongue
(La la la la la la la)
He’s funny now all his jokes hit different
Guess who he learned that from

Now I’m gone but you’re still layin’
Next to me
One degree of separation

(I) Heard you’re back together and if that’s true
You’ll just have to taste me when he’s kissing you
If you want forever and I bet you do
Just know you’ll
Taste me
Too

(La la la la la la la)

Every time you close your eyes
And feel his lips you’re feelin’ mine
And every time you breathe his air
Just know I was already there
You can have him if you like
I’ve been there done that once or twice
And singin’ ‘bout it don’t mean I care
Yeah I know I’ve been known to share

Well I heard you’re back together and if that’s true
You’ll just have to taste me when he’s kissing you
If you want forever and I bet you do
Just know you’ll
Taste me
Too

Taste me too
(La la la la la la la)
You’ll just have to taste me when he’s kissing you
You’ll just have to taste me when he’s kissing you

Letra de «Lo Intenté Todo»

Es tan difícil no extrañarte
Esa manera de quererte
No la he vuelto a conseguir
No viajo solo
Hay alguien más
Y aunque la adoro

Nadie ocupa tu lugar
Y yo, aunque jamás volví
Lo intenté todo por ti

No hay nadie nunca en tu lugar
Y yo, aunque jamás volví
Lo intenté todo
Lo intenté todo por ti

Dicen que el tiempo
Encuentra el modo
(Mmm)
Pero cuando hablo con el tiempo
Me pregunta sobre ti
Lo desahogo
¿En dónde estás?
Aún te adoro

Nadie ocupa tu lugar
Y yo, aunque jamás volví
Lo intenté todo por ti

No hay nadie nunca en tu lugar
Y yo, aunque jamás volví
Lo intenté todo
Lo intenté todo por ti

Nunca aprendí a olvidar
Contigo me quedé
En ti encontré un amor
Que nunca superé
Por ti aprendí a reír
Pero también lloré
Yo te he buscado
En tantos besos
Y no te encontré

Por ti perdí la voz
Pero por ti canté
Esas canciones de los dos
Que luego no borré
Pero no digo adiós
En Dios yo tengo fe
Pa’ que te diga
Que por ti yo
Todo lo intenté

Y nadie ocupa tu lugar
Y yo, aunque jamás volví
Lo intenté todo por ti

Nadie ocupa en tu lugar
Y yo, aunque jamás volví
Lo intenté todo
Lo intenté todo por ti
(Oh, oh)
(Mmm)
Mmm
Oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh
