Join us here on David’s YouTube channel at 5pm BST / 12pm ET today to celebrate the release of Luck and Strange with David and the band performing tracks from the album (and maybe an old favourite…) live at tour rehearsals.

David Gilmour's 'Luck and Strange', released 6th September 2024. Order now from https://davidgilmour.lnk.to/LuckandStrange on vinyl, CD and digital.

*ABOUT LUCK AND STRANGE*
‘Luck and Strange’ was recorded over five months in Brighton and London and is Gilmour’s first album of new material in nine years. The record was produced by David and Charlie Andrew, best known for his work with ALT-J and Marika Hackman. Of this new working relationship, David says, “We invited Charlie to the house, so he came and listened to some demos, and said things like, “Well, why does there have to be a guitar solo there?” and “Do they all fade out? Can’t some of them just end?”. He has a wonderful lack of knowledge or respect for this past of mine. He’s very direct and not in any way overawed, and I love that. That is just so good for me because the last thing you want is people just deferring to you.”

The majority of the album’s lyrics have been composed by Polly Samson, Gilmour’s co-writer and collaborator for the past thirty years. Samson says of the lyrical themes covered on ‘Luck and Strange’, “It’s written from the point of view of being older; mortality is the constant.” Gilmour elaborates, “We spent a load of time during and after lockdown talking about and thinking about those kind of things.” Polly has also found the experience of working with Charlie Andrew liberating, “He wants to know what the songs are about, he wants everyone who’s playing on them to have the ideas that are in the lyric informing their playing. I have particularly loved it for that reason.”

The album features eight new tracks along with a beautiful reworking of The Montgolfier Brothers’ ‘Between Two Points’ and has artwork and photography by the renowned artist Anton Corbijn.

Musicians contributing to the record include Guy Pratt & Tom Herbert on bass, Adam Betts, Steve Gadd and Steve DiStanislao on drums, Rob Gentry & Roger Eno on keyboards with string and choral arrangements by Will Gardner. The title track also features the late Pink Floyd keyboard player Richard Wright, recorded in 2007 at a jam in a barn at David’s house.

Some contributions emerged from the live streams that Gilmour and family performed to a global audience during the lockdowns of 2020 and 2021; Romany Gilmour sings, plays the harp and appears on lead vocals on ‘Between Two Points’. Gabriel Gilmour also sings backing vocals.

The album’s cover image, photographed and designed by Anton Corbijn, is inspired by a lyric written by Charlie Gilmour for the album’s final song ‘Scattered’. Of working with his family on ‘Luck and Strange’, David says, “Polly and I have been writing together for over thirty years and the Von Trapped live streams showed the great blend of Romany’s voice and harp-playing and that led us into a feeling of discarding some of the past that I’d felt bound to and that I could throw those rules out and do whatever I felt like doing, and that has been such a joy.”

*ABOUT DAVID GILMOUR*
David Gilmour CBE hit No. 1 in the UK with his 2006 solo album On An Island. Following Pink Floyd’s final album, 2014’s The Endless River, (No. 1 in 21 countries), David’s latest studio album, Rattle That Lock, and 2017's release of Live At Pompeii are out now. Buy via http://www.davidgilmour.com

A Cambridge friend of Syd Barrett, David joined Syd, with Roger Waters, Richard Wright, and Nick Mason, in Pink Floyd in early 1968, only for Syd to leave the group five gigs later. Pink Floyd's subsequent huge worldwide success continued after Roger Waters' departure in 1985, with the albums A Momentary Lapse Of Reason and The Division Bell both charting at No. 1 in the UK and the US, and sell-out world tours. Rattle That Lock released in 2015 and David’s 4th solo album, went to No. 1 in 13 countries. In 2017, Live at Pompeii released as a live album and film which was recorded at the Amphitheatre of Pompeii.

From jazz and Tejano to norteño and ska, 'El Tiny' returns with a takeover from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15 for Latin Music Month.

Felix Contreras | October 13, 2026
Draco Rosa's trajectory from '80s boy band star to enigmatic solo performer music fascinates me to no end. Behind the Desk, Rosa creates shimmering, electric guitar-driven ruminations on life and love.

After his tenure in Menudo and some solo success, Rosa went on to produce and co-write some of his former bandmate Ricky Martin's biggest pop hits, including "Livin' la Vida Loca," "She Bangs" and "The Cup of Life (La Copa de la Vida)." But it was in 1996 that Rosa released what I consider to be one of the best rock en Español albums of all time. Vagabundo spiritually hovers this Tiny Desk performance, culminating in an extended take on the title track's existential themes. Special mention must be made of Puerto Rican jazz trumpeter Charlie Sepulveda, who adds a late-career Miles Davis stamp to the song's climax.

As our longtime fans of Tiny Desk know, we don’t typically publish introductions for our concerts. We’ve restored the full introduction on NPR.org after temporarily removing it for editorial review, acknowledging the topic shared is emotional and complex and something many listeners and newsroom staff are grappling with. We hope to have this YouTube video updated soon.

From jazz and Tejano to norteño and ska, 'El Tiny' returns with a takeover from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15 for Latin Music Month.

Anamaria Sayre | October 15, 2026
There is no stage too small for Los Tigres del Norte, yet none can contain its impact. For the last 60 years, the Mexican norteño band has built a career around its communities, collecting stories from its devoted audience and spinning the struggle of Latino life into song. My dear friend and Alt.Latino co-host Felix Contreras, in a tearful introduction to this performance, sums up Los Tigres del Norte's mission best: "For as long as I can remember, these gentlemen have been giving us back our humanity."

At the Tiny Desk, Los Tigres del Norte opens with an immigrant anthem that clearly proclaims: "I didn't cross the border / The border crossed me." And in our office space, that message is hit with the same certainty as a struck guitar chord or an accordion riff. This is just one of many stories that validate the experiences of the Mexican families this band loves. But on a global scale, that role transforms: Los Tigres del Norte plays on behalf of Latin America, speaking truth to power: Somos más Americanos.

Lyrics:
When I get blue
I get dark blue
When I have one
I always have a few
When I get gone
I get real gone
When I get it wrong
I get it real wrong

I’m out tonight
And I’m feelin’ like
I should call you up
And maybe take a shot
That you’re wide awake
At a quarter to 3

Maybe lookin’ through
Your camera roll
The tequila’s startin’
To take a toll
I was hopin’, baby
Maybe you’d be

As messed up as me
And all alone
And all your friends
Have all gone home
And you hate that the truth
Is nobody leaves
Your head and your heart and your bed and your sheets
As messed up as me
As messed up as me

The official music video for Luke Bryan's "Take My Drunk Ass Home"

It's time to take my drunk ass home
I drank all the whiskey and my moneys all gone
Hit on all the girls, sang every song
It's time to take my drunk ass home

Well I worked all week
So I could come here
Have a good time and an ice cold beer
But 1 turned to 10
And 10 turned to 20
And 20 plus an empty bottle's too damn many

LYRICS:
I love New York City, but I can't stay at the Carlyle anymore
My head and bed were messy from the night before
Sunflowers at the door
We said that it was over, what'd you send 'em for?
If I'm being honest, let 'em sit outside of 701
Except for that one
I pressed between those two pages of Hemingway poems we love
Probably because

Two things can be true
I'll love and hate you
I'll be your best and your worst day
I'll be your blessing and curse, babe, yeah
Sometimes I'll cut and ghost
But sometimes I'll get too close
You're nothing and everything I got to lose
Two things can be true
Two things can be true

The next hundred twenty hours I was obsessively lookin' at my phone
And checking your location, did you make it home?
Are you feelin' alone?
Are we turning into people that we used to know?
If I'm bein' honest
Couldn't get to Carolina quick enough, I'm not giving up
Chartered a plane to your doorstep
We made up in your bed
Probably because

Two things can be true
I'll love and hate you
I'll be your best and your worst day
I'll be your blessing and curse, babe, yeah
Sometimes I'll cut and ghost
Sometimes I'll get too close
You're nothing and everything I got to lose
Two things can be true
Two things can be true

My eyes are green
Yeah, your jeans are blue
I wish it was that easy
When it comes to me and you

Two things can be true
I'll love and hate you
I'll be your best and your worst day
But you wouldn't want it any other way, yeah
Sometimes I'll cut and ghost
But, baby, don't let me go
You're nothing and everything I got to lose
Two things can be true
Two things can be true

LYRICS:
Since I was born they couldn't hold me down
Another misfit kid, another burned-out town
I never played by the rules, I never really cared
My nasty reputation takes me everywhere

I look and see it's not only me
So many others have stood where I stand
We are the young, so raise your hands

They call us problem child
We spend our lives on trial
We walk an endless mile
We are the youth gone wild
We stand and we won't fall
We're one and one for all
The writing's on the wall
We are the youth gone wild

Boss screamin' in my ear about who I'm supposed to be
Getcha a 3-piece wall street smile and son you'll look just like me
I said "hi man, there's something that you oughta know I'll tell ya Park Avenue leads to
Skid Row
I look and see it's not only me
We're standin' tall, ain't never a doubt
We are the young, so shout it out

They call us problem child
We spend our lives on trial
We walk an endless mile
We are the youth gone wild
We stand up, we won't fall
We're one and one for all
The writing's on the wall
We are the youth gone wild

Let me hear you wild

They call us problem child
We spend our lives on trial
We walk an endless mile
We are the youth gone wild
We stand up, we won't fall
We're one and one for all
The writing's on the wall
We are the youth gone wild (oh oh oh oh)
We are the youth gone wild (oh oh oh oh)

Lyrics:
Chalo Aakhri Mulaqat Ko Yaadgaar Bana Dete Hai
Jaate Jaate Tera Ye Waham Bhi Mita Dete Hain
Bas Yahi Khaasiyat Thi Tum Mein Ke Tumhe Hum Chahte Thay
Aaj Tak Yahi Jhooth Kaha Tha Tumse
Chalo Aaj Sach Bata Dete Hain

Cheez Ik Bewaffa Thi Badi
Yaaron Wo Bhi Mujhe Mil Gayi
Wo Na Ban Jaaye Qismat Meri
Dua Kijiye
Na Kabhi Mein Usse Phir Miloon
Na Kabhi Ishq Ka Naam Loon
Na Mujhe Phir Se Ho Ashiqui …
Dua Kijiye
Dua Kijiye

Jiski Ankhon Ki Taareef Mein
Maine Likh Di Kayi Shaayari
Khaab Dekhe Thay Jinme Kayi …
Wo Nigaahein Dagabaaz Thi
Mere Ashkon Ki Fariyaad Hai
Jis Tarah Ki Mere Saath Hai..
Koi Unse Kare Dil Lagi …
Dua Kijiye
Dua Kijiye

Ik Din Khulengi Aankhein
Jab Hosh Mein Aaoge
Dekhoge Jab Aaina
Khud Se Bhi Dar Jaoge…
Tanhaayyaan Ayengi
Jab Mehfilen Jayengi
Hum Dhoondh Lenge Koi
Par Tum Kidhar Jaaoge
Ik Roz Meri Yaadon Mein Tadpega Tu
Is Pyaar Ke Liye Mere Tarsega Tu

Ishq Ki Har Qasam Tod Di
Yaaro Jo Meri Na Ho Saki
Wo Kisi Ki Bhi Na Ho Kabhi
Dua Kijiye
Dua Kijiye

Lyrics:
Can I surrender to you
all my defenses are down
It hurts to be human
This could be heaven or hell
Been trying to figure it out
… It hurts to be human
I rip
When the weight bears down
BeforeIi get
Edgy on my empty oscillations
And I'm ready to Gun
I RIP when the weight bears down
Some nights you dance with tears in your eyes
Some days you smile with pain in your heart
Is peaceful in the eye of the storm
I kill the chaos rip the weight from my heart
Stumbling in the dark for a cure
Somehow i know there’s gotta be more but so…
I RIP
When the weight bears down
Before I get
Edgy on my empty oscillations
And I'm ready to Gun
I RIP when the weight bears down
Can I surrender to you
all my defenses are down
It hurts to be human
This could be heaven or hell
I’m trying to figure it out
It hurts to be human
