"Oblivion" is the title track of Ov Sulfur's debut EP, ex-Suffokate vocalist Ricky Hoover's first release-proper in a decade. The Las Vegas band was already making a statement with their blackened deathcore, which tempers absurdly brutal breakdowns and blast beats with symphonic elements and gruff singing. However, this time around they took that to the next level with guest vocals from Tim Lambesis (As I Lay Dying, Austrian Death Machine).

LYRICS

Ashes...
All I see is ashes...
Burning embers surrounding me
I taste the stench ov ancestral rot
The fires raging beneath my feet

As I look upward, I breathe it in, breathe it all in
Englut from a fetid sky
That’s filled with malignancy

This will be the result ov paradoxical dogma
The endless searching to make the pieces fit
It didn’t come from the word as they wanted
But they made it so through all ov this

Behold the sectarian warmonger, so eager and so bellicose

Armed with tenet
Purge the skeptics
Enjoin servility
Laud through carnage

When the day has finally come, who will you call?
Oblivion is drawing near to claim us all
At the trumpets’ final blare, you’ll feel despair

The heavy burden ov regret
Knowing that you followed them
Believing you’d be protected
As they left you barely conscious
Taught to rely
No quality ov life
You gave away your freedom
To a soulless machine
Progress hypocrisy
A soulless machine
Progress

End
All ov this please
Fucking suffering
We will shed our mortal coil when it comes
End our fucking suffering

When the day has finally come, who will you call?
Oblivion is drawing near to claim us all
At the trumpets’ final blare you’ll feel despair

"Soulfly" lyrics

Conversating with mama she say I’m in too deep
Until my n****s rich and free it’s hard to get me some sleep
It's hard to get me some peace,
With all the shit that I be battling
Too many ups and downs sometimes I feel like I can’t balance it
It be challenges, so many challenges yeah
Our father, it’s safe to say times harder (this shit get harder)
My pops say “son be smarter, you a artist and a father”
My unc say “nah be smarter you a target and regardless”
You a leader to them people and them young n****s is watching
Them you n****s believe in you don’t let em down be cautious
And I got skills and other things but rich off rapping pain
So much that came with all this fame but I remain the same
Hope you don’t think cause I got chains that's what made me change
It's just this life got so strange I had to switch lanes
N***as pulled up and I be outside
Laid in the cut like peroxide yeah
I vowed to be frontline when shots fired
I was out of town that night when...died
Standing in church blurry eyed that I had to confess
I seen my n***a laid to rest in his Sunday best
Polo on his head and chest now that's casket fresh
Wish we would’ve seen eye to eye before you left
And where I’m from it’s a eye for an eye, nothing else
Ain’t no love, it ain’t no help every man for themself
Better watch your homies, keep your skrap or get scraped to a shelf
Ain’t no complaining when it’s raining play the hand you're dealt
Ain’t got no opps just some n***as who mad that I made it
And since you n***as mad I made it pick a casket baby
On the net exaggerating ain’t even half as gangster
It’s funny and it’s fascinating how even family hate you
Wanna hit the show but you ain't show up to my graduation
I can’t take y’all to the top I ain’t no elevator
Thinking of my cousin Dejah,
Was way in 2013 when she left I was 15 when she left
They say it won’t be long, all I want
Is when the horn blows and when they all cry
I pray my soul flies, pray my soul flies
I pray my soul flies
They say it won’t be long, all I want
Is when the horn blows and when they all cry
I pray my soul flies, I pray my soul flies
I pray my soul flies
