Coloray is het grensverleggende creatieve alias van de Tilburgse elektronische artiest Raynor de Groot, bekend als helft van dance-project Tunnelvisions en ook vanwege zijn multidisciplinaire aanpak. In 2019 ging Raynor solo als Coloray en groeide single 'Can't Stop' meteen uit tot enorm dansvloeranthem. Tijdens de pandemie lanceerde hij het baanbrekende audiovisuele concept ‘Future Static’: een album vergezeld van een nieuwe liveshow en virtuele wereld (waarvoor hij zelf de virtual reality-app ontwierp). De zomer van 2022 moest de zomer van Prins S. en De Geit worden. Ze hadden een hele berg aan festivalboekingen in het verschiet, maar in maart kreeg gitarist Marne Miesen een hersenbloeding. Hij belandde in een coma, en heeft opnieuw moeten leren gitaarspelen. Het hield ‘m uiteindelijk niet tegen, hij speelde ‘gewoon’ op Lowlands en nu is er ook een debuutalbum van Prins S. en De Geit.

Begonnen als geinig experiment in de keuken in Dublin, deelt The Scratch een liefde voor akoestische gitaar, metal en traditionele Ierse muziek. Ze versmelten triomfantelijke melodieën met de groove en intensiteit van metal. Na de eerste EP ‘Old Songs’ (2018) brachten ze in 2020 het debuutalbum ‘Couldn’t Give A Rats’ uit. Deze zomer deden ze zo’n twintig festivals door heel Ierland en Europa. Voor 2023 heeft The Scratch al een US Tour en meer Europese festivals staan. Vergeet niet dat het onmogelijk is om deze band volledig te begrijpen zonder ze live te zien.

PAT METHENY
Patrick Bruce "Pat" Metheny (born August 12, 1954) is an American jazz guitarist and composer.
One of the most successful and critically acclaimed jazz musicians to come to prominence in the 1970s and '80s, he is the leader of the Pat Metheny Group and is also involved in duets, solo works and other side projects. His style incorporates elements of progressive and contemporary jazz, post-bop, latin jazz and jazz fusion.

THE METROPOLE ORCHESTRA
The Metropole Orchestra (or Metropole Orkest) is a jazz and pop orchestra based in the Netherlands, and is the largest full time ensemble of its kind in the world. A hybrid orchestra, it is a combination of jazz big band and symphony orchestra. Comprising 52 musicians, it is versatile across many musical forms, and is equipped with a "double rhythm section" - one for pop and rock, and one for jazz based music.
It was founded in 1945 by Dolf van der Linden at the urging of officials from Netherlands Public Broadcasting, which manages and subsidizes the orchestra. The name of the group was suggested by one of the musicians. Dolf van der Linden led the ensemble for 35 years until he stepped down in 1980. He was replaced by Rogier van Otterloo, who led the group until his sudden death in 1988. Dick Bakker held the baton until 1995 when the current conductor, Vince Mendoza, took over.
The orchestra is a regular feature at the North Sea Jazz festival and the yearly Holland Festival along with many TV and radio programs broadcast to millions. The ever-growing Dutch film and television industry relies heavily on the Metropole Orchestra for its film scores. Since 2005 the Metropole is under the baton of its Chief, four-time Grammy Award winner Vince Mendoza, and can be seen frequenting the concert stage, in festivals and on recordings in the Netherlands as well as internationally.

NIORTH SEA JAZZ FESTIVAL
The North Sea Jazz Festival is an annual jazz festival held each second weekend of July in the Netherlands at the Ahoy venue. It used to be in The Hague but since 2006 it has been held in Rotterdam. This is because the Statenhal where the festival was held before was demolished in 2006.

In honour of one of my favourite years in music, here's an EPIC two-plus hour megamix of some of 1984's finest tunes, seamlessly stitched together so the beat never has to stop.

First broadcast in 1987 on the UK's Channel 4, Bombin' was directed by documentary filmmaker Dick Fontaine and was a sequel to his earlier 1984 documentary "Beat This!", once again taking a look at how American hip-hop culture was making its way over the pond to the UK, this time using the lens of the graffiti and tagging subcultures.

The documentary offers a fascinating look at 1980's UK hip-hop and graffiti culture and specifically for Massive Attack fans, 3D during one segment is also featured tagging alongside future Drum n' Bass/Jungle musician Goldie in Birmingham. The two had already at this point setup the Trans-Atlantic Federation, a collective of UK/US based graffiti artists.

Perhaps the most interesting element of the Bombin' documentary, is when we see some of the British establishment's dismissal and even disdain to the tagging ethos and how that further alludes to the social implications of ethnicity and poverty, and their relationship with the hip-hop culture before it became widely accepted.
