Unlimited Love, the band’s first album with their iconic lineup reunited once more, the twelfth studio album. Produced by Rick Rubin, the album reunites the band with both Rubin, who did not take part in the recording of their previous album, The Getaway, and guitarist John Frusciante, who left in 2009 and rejoined in 2019, replacing Josh Klinghoffer.

"This is the opening sequence from one of the most famous, and highly regarded, Grateful Dead shows of all time, the Closing Of Winterland. With opening acts the New Riders of the Purple Sage and the Blues Brothers, the Dead didn't hit the stage until midnight, and played until the sun rose. Bill Graham served breakfast to everyone after the show." - David Lemieux

Lyrics:
There’s a stranger in my bed
There’s a pounding in my head
Glitter all over the room
Pink flamingos in the pool
I smell like a mini-bar
DJs passed out in the yard
Barbies on the barbecue
Is this a hickey or a bruise

Pictures of last night
Ended up online
I’m screwed
Oh well
It’s a blacktop blur
But I’m pretty sure
It ruled
Damn

Last Friday night
Yeah, we danced on tabletops
And we took too many shots
Think we kissed but I forgot
Last Friday night
Yeah, we maxed our credit cards
Then got kicked out of the bar
So we hit the boulevard

Last Friday night
We went streaking in the park
Skinny dipping in the dark
Then had a ménage à trois
Last Friday night
Yeah, I think we broke a law
Always say we’re gonna stop
This Friday night
Do it all again
This Friday night
Do it all again

Trying to connect the dots
Don’t know what to tell my boss
Think the city towed my car
Chandelier is on the floor
Ripped my favorite party dress
Warrants out for my arrest
Think I need a ginger ale
That was such an epic fail

Pictures of last night
Ended up online
I’m screwed
Oh well
It’s a blacktop blur
But I’m pretty sure
It ruled
Damn

Last Friday night
Yeah, we danced on tabletops
And we took too many shots

I uploaded this video a few years ago, because it's one of my father's favourite songs and it reminds me of my childhood when he would play it on the cassette player. It's wonderful to read the daily comments people leave on how they are connected to this song. It's no wonder that this song is played every single day by so many people.

Sukiyaki (Ue o Muite Arukou)- Kyu Sakamoto (English Translation and Lyrics)

About the Lyrics

The lyrics tell the story of a man who looks up and whistles while he is walking so that his tears won't fall. The verses of the song describe his memories and feelings. The English-language lyrics of the version recorded by A Taste of Honey are not a translation of the original Japanese lyrics but a completely different set of lyrics set to the same basic melody.

The title Sukiyaki, a Japanese hot pot dish, has nothing to do with the lyrics or the meaning of the song; the word served the purpose only because it was short, catchy, recognizably Japanese, and more familiar to most English speakers. A Newsweek columnist noted that the re-titling was like issuing "Moon River" in Japan under the title "Beef Stew."

About the song:

"Ue o Muite Arukō" (上を向いて歩こう?, literally "[I] shall walk looking up") is a Japanese-language song that was performed by Japanese crooner Kyu Sakamoto, and written by lyricist Rokusuke Ei and composer Hachidai Nakamura. It is best known under the alternative title "Sukiyaki" in English-speaking parts of the world. The song reached the top of the Billboard Hot 100 charts in the United States in 1963, and was the only Japanese-language song to do so. In total it sold over 13 million copies internationally. The original Kyu Sakamoto recording also went to number eighteen on the R&B chart.[3] In addition, the single spent five weeks at number one on the Middle of the Road charts. The recording was originally released in Japan by Toshiba in 1961. It topped the Popular Music Selling Record chart in the Japanese magazine Music Life for three months, and was ranked as the number one song of 1961 in Japan.
Well-known English-language cover versions include a 1981 cover under the title "Sukiyaki" by A Taste of Honey and a 1995 cover by 4 P.M.. There is also an English language version with altogether different lyrics by Jewel Akens under the title "My First Lonely Night" recorded in 1966. There are many other language versions of the song as well.

About Kyu Sakamoto:

Kyu Sakamoto (坂本 九 Sakamoto Kyū?, born Hisashi Oshima (大島 九 Ōshima Hisashi?), 10 December 1941 -- 12 August 1985) was a Japanese singer and actor, best known outside of Japan for his international hit song "Sukiyaki", which was sung in Japanese and sold over 13 million copies. It reached number one in the United States Billboard Hot 100 in June 1963.

In this week's episode of the Angie Martinez IRL Podcast, Angie sits down with Canadian media personality, actress, and resilient survivor, Melyssa Ford.

Angie and Melyssa reflect on her prominence during an era in Hip-Hop when the industry's landscape didn't align with today's norms of consent. Delving into her experiences as a video vixen in the early 2000s, Angie explores Melyssa's journey and challenges during that time.

Their paths may have crossed on multiple occasions, but it was a gathering for a mutual friend that brought Angie and Melyssa together, unveiling the deeply impactful story of Melyssa's near-fatal car accident. This life-altering event left her with a traumatic brain injury, ushering in a new chapter filled with overwhelming struggles—battling suicidal thoughts and grappling with the weight of surviving such a harrowing incident.

Adding to her tribulations, Melyssa was confronted with her mother's terminal diagnosis, reigniting a complex and emotional journey in their relationship.

Despite enduring these profound challenges, Melyssa Ford bravely shares her path to healing. From grappling with self-medication to discovering solace in self-help literature, engaging in transformative shadow work, and finding strength through activities like pilates, Melyssa has reclaimed agency over her life and narrative.

Erykah Badu dropped her first project, 'Baduizm,' in 1997 to commercial success and critical acclaim. She was labeled the Queen of neo-soul, helping open doors for other female artists like SZA, Solange, and Janelle Monáe who didn’t fit within the traditional R&B box. So there was pressure on her sop****re effort, 'Mama’s Gun,' which turns 25 years old in November. Here we explore the project, which was an ode to her son Seven, who she had with Andre 3000. We discuss the pressure she felt following up 'Baduizm,' break down the songs on 'Mama’s Gun,' why she directs all of her music videos, the one artist she wants to work with, and what she thinks of the state of R&B and hip-hop today.

"Please Explain Hosted by Aria Hughes" is an explainer show about culture, fashion, and music that brings context, not confusion, to the internet.
