►Lyrics:
Dil mere ro raha hai
Tere gham mein kho raha hai
Mushkil hai ye Judaai
Sun le meri duhaai
Ab aake tu bhi yaara
Mujhe dekh jeete marte
Kai din guzar ****e hain
Tujhe yaad karte karte

Pal pal bikhar raha hun
Aakar mujhe bacha le
Bechain hun main kab se
Mujhko gale lagaa le
Mera dil tere hawaale
Meri jaan tere hawaale
Mar jaun na kahin
Fariyaad karte karte
Kai din guzar ****e hain
Tujhe yaad karte karte

Majboor tu udhar hai
Lachaar main idhar hun
Ek lamha phir bhi tujhse
Main bekhabar nahin hun
Diniya ki saari rashmein
Aa tod ke tu kasmein
Jeena nahin ganwaara
Ab aur darte darte
Kai din guzar ****e hain
Tujhe yaad karte karte

========= 1916 LYRICS ==========

Sixteen years old when I went to the war,
To fight for a land fit for heroes,
God on my side, and a gun in my hand,
Chasing my days down to zero,
And I marched and I fought and I bled and I died,
And I never did get any older,
But I knew at the time that a year in the line,
Was a long enough life for a soldier,

We all volunteered, and we wrote down our names,
And we added two years to our ages,
Eager for life and ahead of the game,
Ready for history's pages,
And we brawled and we fought and we whored 'til we stood,
Ten thousand shoulder to shoulder,
A thirst for the Hun, we were food for the gun,
And that's what you are when you're soldiers,

I heard my friend cry, and he sank to his knees,
Coughing blood as he screamed for his mother,
And I fell by his side, and that's how we died,
Clinging like kids to each other,
And I lay in the mud and the guts and the blood,
And I wept as his body grew colder,
And I called for my mother and she never came,
Though it wasn't my fault and I wasn't to blame,
And the day’s not half over and ten thousand slain,
And now there's nobody remembers our names
And that's how it is for a soldier.

========= Historic Fact ==========

Resulting in around 300,000 fatalities, the Battle of the Somme is considered one of the bloodiest and deadliest conflicts of the First World War and in human history. The battle, which was fought between British and French forces versus German forces, kicked off on July 1, 1916, and ended on November 18 that same year.

Gladys Knight & The Pips "Hey Jude & I Heard It Through The Grapevine" on The Ed S Hotney 9 Streams • 4 years ago

Gladys Knight & The Pips sing a chorus of The Beatles "Hey Jude" with wounded soldiers and finish with a performance of "I Heard It Through The Grapevine" on The Ed Sullivan Show, March 29, 1970. Subscribe now to never miss an update: https://ume.lnk.to/EdSullivanSubscribe

Gladys Knight and the Pips’ special performance on The Ed Sullivan Show was a unique setting: rather than the theater, the group performed an inspired set in front of wounded soldiers being treated at Fitzsimons General Army Hospital in Denver. Among the songs performed was this powerful rendition of “I Heard it Through the Grapevine." Their appearance, originally broadcast March 29, 1970, has become one of the all-time classics from The Ed Sullivan Show.

The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.
