Few rap stories sound as unbelievable as Max B’s.

18 years after he was sentenced to 75, the Harlem legend and inventor of the wave sits down with Jason Lee to revisit everything that happened in between. From the post-conviction motion he researched and fought himself to the four albums he recorded on a prison workstation, Max B walks through it all without flinching.

The conversation goes far beyond the wave.

He opens up about creating one of hip hop's most imitated sounds, the brotherhood with French Montana that never once involved a contract, and the artists like Wiz Khalifa and Jadakiss who showed up for him while he still had years left to serve. Jason also presses him on the Jim Jones fallout, who really had money waiting when he came home, and why he still won't call himself a snitch.

But this isn't a comeback story stuck in the past.

Max B talks faith, fatherhood, staying out of the beef, and what it means to rebuild after almost losing everything. He reflects on who stayed, who bounced, and why peace means more to him now than being the loudest voice in the room.

I love how ska & reggae music makes me feel so I write in those styles often. There is something just flat out fun about those genres especially at bpm’s over 150. I hope you get some of the joy I got from making, This Time, from the song and video.
