Cher (born Cheryl Sarkisian in El Centro, May 20, 1946) is an American singer, actress, and cultural icon whose career spans more than six decades. She first rose to fame in the 1960s as one half of the duo Sonny & Cher, scoring hits like “I Got You Babe”. As a solo artist, she achieved major success with songs such as “Gypsys, Tramps & Thieves,” “If I Could Turn Back Time,” and the global smash “Believe”, which became one of the best-selling singles of all time and won a Grammy Award. Beyond music, Cher won an Academy Award for Best Actress for Moonstruck (1987). In 1995, Cher released her cover of “Walking in Memphis,” originally by Marc Cohn. Her version became an international hit, reaching No. 33 on the US Billboard Hot 100, the Top 15 in the UK (peaking at No. 11), and the Top 10 in several European countries, including Belgium. This recording is from Dutch program TROS TV Show and broadcasted on November 23, 1995.
