Evolution Of Hip-Hop. Nothing says rap better than a good feud!
What's beef? Is it when your mom ain't safe up in the street? Or is it actually the fifth element of hip-hop? Dating all of the way back to when Big Bank Hank of the Sugar Hill Gang borrowed Grandmaster Caz's rhyme book and used his lyrics without credit on "Rapper's Delight," MCs have been feuding on and off wax for years.

Hip-hop is a culture built around machismo and bravado, so backing down or losing a battle could be detrimental to an artist's career. One slip-up and you could find yourself with a one-way ticket to obscurity. Certain MCs have built entire careers around beefing with other artists, while others have had their careers d*stroyed with just a couple lines. But what once began as two rappers simply battling over skill has turned into big business, with parody music videos, elaborate stage shows and entire albums dedicated to the coveted battle.

The ante is constantly being upped to keep the fans entertained, so lines will be crossed while artists strive to find unique and creative ways to slander their opponents. Mothers, women and children have all been involved, and in the YouTube era, a rapper just might show up to your house with a camera crew looking for a br*wl.

The best hip-hop songs of all time are those songs that touch our soul. They make us smile, laugh, cry, think, move and shake what our mama (or papa) gave us.

I traveled back four decades and dug through a pile of tunes to compile a list of the greatest songs hip-hop has ever witnessed.

Picking hip-hop's greatest songs is an incredibly difficult (and incredibly fun) undertaking, considering the various styles that have splintered the genre every way imaginable. Now 40 years old, hip-hop no more belongs to Bronx originators than it does to today's kids; its popularity has stretched to all corners, and the various mutations reflect that. Our picks reflect the songs that innovated, enlightened, delighted, and lasted. These are hip-hop tracks that, with any justice, our grandchildren will have on playlists that are implanted into their brains, or whatever.

Yesterday it was 10 years since Whitney Houston's untimely death. We commemorate her with this rare video, broadcast in the Netherlands on April 19, 1985 during Whitney's first promotional visit to the Netherlands. She was 21 at the time.

Whitney Elizabeth Houston (August 9, 1963 – February 11, 2012) was an American singer and actress. She is one of the best-selling music artists of all time, with sales of over 200 million records worldwide. Houston's vocal performances, as well as her prominence on the MTV and popular music charts, have influenced many African American artists.

Houston began singing in church as a child and became a background vocalist while in high school. She was one of the first black women to appear on the cover of Seventeen magazine after becoming a teen model in 1981. With the guidance of Arista Records chairman Clive Davis, Houston signed to the label at age 19. Her first two studio albums, Whitney Houston (1985) and Whitney (1987), both peaked at number one on the Billboard 200 and are among the best-selling albums of all time. She is the only artist to have seven consecutive number-one singles on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart, from "Saving All My Love for You" in 1985 to "Where Do Broken Hearts Go" in 1988. Houston's third studio album, I'm Your Baby Tonight (1990), was certified quintuple platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and yielded two Billboard Hot 100 number-one singles, the title track "I'm Your Baby Tonight" and "All the Man That I Need".

Whitney Houston visited the Netherlands in March 1985 just 2 weeks after the USA release of her first album 'Whitney Houston'. This performance in AVRO tv show 'Show van de maand' with Dutch singer Liesbeth List was broadcast on April 19, 1985 and was her second tv performance worldwide!

"Precious Little Diamond" is a 1984 song by the Dutch Euro disco group Fox the Fox. It's the sixth track on the album 'In The Dark Of The Nite'.
The single peaked as number 11 on the Dutch singles Chart, staying on the chart for 7 weeks.

Fox the Fox was founded in 1981 by Berth Tamaëla and Sylvia Musmin in 1981. Among the members were bassist Gino Jansen, guitarist Kier van der Werf, keyboardist Roy Kuschel, and drummers Robbie Brans, Tjalling Bos and Han Langkamp. Musmin wrote all the lyrics. In 1984 they released the single "Precious Little Diamond", which reached fifth place in Germany, number 18 on the U.S. Billboard Hot Dance Music/Club Play, 15 in France, 38 in Belgium and 86 in the United Kingdom. Subsequent singles and albums were not successful.

Dieter Bohlen has been cited with this song as the inspiration for using falsetto choruses in his songs, such as Modern Talking, C.C. Catch and Blue System. In 2013, the song was sampled in The Weeknd's song "Wanderlust", on his album Kiss Land. The Weeknd samples the melody, the original chorus and a part of the original lyrics.

This Toppop recording was first broadcast on May 31, 1984.

As a side note, I want to talk about the remaster of this video as well as the future of this channel, and the impact the old #1 video had on my channel. This remaster was just like what I did all those years ago when I set out as the first person to successfully publish every #1 hit from start to finish without breaking it up into parts; just one long, continuous stretch. Most people broke their videos into parts and I hadn't really seen anyone upload the #1s before the 70s, so it was my mission to deliver. Since it was the first time doing something like this, there obviously were several issues when I published it. In this remaster, I set out to fix those problems and I really hope that I didn't make any spelling errors in the video. If I did, please let me know so next time I can narrow down which parts I made errors on and correct them. As for the video itself, I recreated the whole video from scratch. I did not have any clips saved from the previous video (it wouldn't have mattered since they were 30fps anyways). Every clip in this video was rerecorded, edited, mixed, etc. However, this time around, I had noticed there was a larger variety of clips from older songs with better quality than the first time I did this project. Unfortunately, several clips I had used in the first video have now disappeared and there is no footage of the same clip on several songs. If I ever come across them when I update this video next year, I will include them, but that is what you should expect when dealing with YouTube and copyright. Also, in terms of the copyright system: my video was taken down and not allowed in any country in the world due to copyright. That is why my original video is no longer up on the site, and I am the only one that can access it. I made a community post sometime ago explaining the situation and deleted the post several weeks after. In case anyone was wondering what happened to it, there's your answer. Moving on, in terms of the future of the channel, I am still committed to do Every #5s, 6s, etc. at least until #10s. Eventually, and I mean in the far far future, I will reach the end with every #100s, but that is a daunting task for another day. In terms of success, I hope that this video reaches the heights, maybe even more, of its predecessor. The original video before it was removed had almost 300k views, 5.2k likes, and 1.1k comments which is insane!!! Thank you everyone that viewed, liked (and disliked), and commented on the video no matter what it was. It really means a lot and I never expected it to blow up the way that it did. Before the video I only had a measly 38 subscribers and posted Geometry Dash content. Due to that video and subsequent others, I gained 1.6k subscribers in about a year! Thank you so much. For this year, I want to at least make videos up to every #10s, as well as other little projects along the way. Cheers to a great 2023...

Every single #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 from the very beginning up until this past week.

From the weeks of Aug 4. 1958 to Mar 4. 2023, there have been over 1,000 songs to have graced the top spot for at least one week. This video is a compilation of all of those songs; from the very beginning to the present.
Music has really changed over the past decades, and this is represented within this video. It is really interesting and entertaining to see which songs have reached #1 within the US. I made sure this time that I could get the best possible audio for many songs that were questionable in quality last time.

This is the biggest video I have ever worked on, and rightfully so. I have the spreadsheet for every #1 linked below so that you can check it out. I also have the biggest hits of each year since some weren't in this video due to them never reaching #1.
