UPDATE ON ARRESTS: https://7ny.tv/3aIxUn5

On Oct. 30, 2002, Jam Master Jay, the D.J. for the rap group Run DMC, was killed in his studio in Hollis, Queens.

His death remained one of New York's biggest cold cases for nearly two decades, until Aug. 17, 2020, when two men were indicted in the deadly shooting of the 37-year-old rap legend.

This is how WABC-TV brought you the story on Oct. 30 and 31, 2002.

Smew is a crazy-talented Thai rapper who's been killing it in the TikTok game despite only being on the app for a little over 2 years 👀

After winning a Thai rap competition in 2021, Smew started his TikTok as a way to keep his fans engaged with his musical creations, skits, and 🔥🔥🔥 bars on open verse challenges with other artists. He never expected it to get him millions of views and new fans along the way.

In Anatomy of Virality, we're on a quest to answer the question: What does it take to get internet famous? We meet up with viral TikTok creators to find out what they did to appear on millions of For You pages, discover what makes them stand out, and maybe gather a few tips and tricks we can use ourselves 🤭

Update:
18 days after this video was originally published, Spanian went on a ****phobic rant on Instagram comparing the Pride movement with paedophilia, and was subsequently dropped by his label and management company. The following video was filmed and edited prior to Spanian’s hateful and ****phobic comments, which VICE strongly condemns.

@SPANIAN led a life of crime in the hoods until he discovered rap music in prison. He was put in juvenile detention at the age of 14, shot up heroin around the age of 16, and was in maximum security prison by the time he was 18 years old.

He continued with a life of crime until 2017. This was a turning point for him in prison, where he discovered a new passion in life through rap music. Now, Spanian has found unexpected fame producing YouTube videos and rap music inspired by his former criminal life.

LETRA

Me dijiste suerte pal concierto

Maldita distancia

(Habla Ferrante)

LETRA
Daqui pra Sempre

Todo mundo falou
Que o nosso amor
Era frágil demais
Que nao era capaz

Mas não ouvi ninguém
Que não quer nosso bem
Eu me dediquei
Por nos dois lutei

Eu e você contra o mundo
Eu enfrento tudo
Se eu tiver você

E olha onde a gente chegou
Tudo que a gente conquistou
Daqui pra sempre é só eu e tu
Calando a boca do mundo

Eu te amo até o fim dos tempos

LYRICS

September

I remember when I met you just before September
You were dancing in the street rocking that pink and leather
Begged my friend for your number I bet you don’t remember
That’s how we began

I pursued you for a year I would have waited longer
I knew ultimately it would make the feeling stronger
That first time I kissed you I could look in the mirror
And like who I was

I could never wait for the weekends when you would come over
Cause that’s when I’d see you again
You’re all my strength and my weakness
You battle my demons
You’re still undefeated

Sometimes I get a little bit jaded
Too much pressure just to make it
You smile when I’m angry and I hate it
But I’ll still love you for the rest of my life
My crush on you has never faded
Let’s go back to bed until we break it
I’m gonna love you for the rest of my life

Ooh
If you wanted to
I’d start a family with you

I remember being foolish when I met your mother
Cause she had that Irish charm right then I knew I’d love her
That’s where you got your heart
When we got back to the car
I knew you were the one

I could never wait for the weekends when you would come over
Cause that’s when I’d see you again
You’re all my strength and my weakness
You battle my demons
You’re still undefeated

Sometimes I get a little bit jaded
Too much pressure just to make it
You smile when I’m angry and I hate it
But I’ll still love you for the rest of my life
My crush on you has never faded
Let’s go back to bed until we break it

I’m gonna love you for the rest of my life

Ooh
If you wanted to
I’d start a family with you
Ooh
If you wanted to
I’d start a family with you

Sometimes I get a little bit jaded
Too much pressure just to make it
You smile when I’m angry and I hate it
But I’ll still love you for the rest of my life
My crush on you has never faded
Let’s go back to bed until we break it
I’m gonna love you for the rest of my life

Ooh
If you wanted to
I’d start a family with you
Ooh

If you wanted to
I’d start a family with you
