Moses "Shyne" Barrow sits down for an exclusive interview to discuss his highly anticipated return to music and his May 2nd headlining show at Kings Theatre in Brooklyn — just blocks from where he grew up.

Shyne opens up about working with an all-star lineup of producers including Dr. Dre, Timbaland, Swiss Beatz, Hit-Boy, DJ Premier, Alchemist, No I.D., Rizza, and Boy Wonder. He shares what it was like losing his seat as Opposition Leader of Belize, how that loss reignited his passion for making albums, and why he's channeling nearly a decade of incarceration and political experience into what he calls "free world grown man rap."

From reflecting on his classic debut album and Godfather, Buried Alive, to discussing Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole, Bob Marley, and Tupac's legacy, Shyne breaks down why hip hop's next chapter is about empowerment, policy, and global impact — not just bars.

🎤 Topics covered:

May 2nd Kings Theatre show — The Home Return
Working with Dr. Dre, Timbaland, Swiss Beatz, Hit-Boy & more
Three upcoming albums: The Honorable Album, Rap Prime Minister, Actual Intelligence
Life after prison and political career in Belize
Reuniting with Mase after 20+ years
The future of hip hop as a force for change
Why adult contemporary rap is the next wave

Large Professor sits down with VladTV for a legendary conversation about his role in shaping hip-hop history — from Main Source to architecting Nas’ Illmatic, widely considered one of the greatest rap albums of all time.

Born in Harlem and raised in Flushing, Queens, Large Professor reflects on growing up before hip-hop fully existed and witnessing its evolution firsthand. He recalls buying Spoony G’s “Spooning Rap” and being blown away by Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five’s “Freedom,” which convinced him hip-hop was here to stay. From breakdancing and graffiti to rhyming under the name Professor Paul Juice Star, he details how he eventually transitioned into production and formed Main Source.

Large Professor breaks down the making of Main Source’s Breaking Atoms, the impact of the SP-1200 drum machine, and how DJ Premier helped secure their deal with Wild Pitch Records. He also explains how Joe Fatal introduced him to a young 18-year-old Nas, leading to Nas’ first-ever recorded appearance on “Live at the Barbecue.” Large shares his early impressions of Nas, describing him as humble but already saying things “out of the ordinary.”

The interview dives deep into the creation of Illmatic, including producing “Halftime,” “One Time 4 Your Mind,” and “It Ain’t Hard to Tell,” which famously sampled Michael Jackson’s “Human Nature.” Large Professor gives insight into Nas working with Q-Tip, Pete Rock, and DJ Premier, calling “New York State of Mind” one of his favorite Nas records for capturing the full essence of hip-hop culture.

He also discusses working with Eric B. & Rakim, Kool G Rap, and later reconnecting with Nas for Stillmatic, producing “You’re Da Man” and the storytelling classic “Rewind,” which was entirely Nas’ concept.

From Queens pride during the “Bridge Wars” era to Main Source’s breakup over management disputes, Large Professor provides an insider’s look at the golden era of hip-hop and the creative chemistry that built timeless music.

In this in-depth VladTV interview, West Coast legend MC Eiht breaks down his upbringing in Compton, the crack epidemic’s impact on the city, and how gang culture shaped an entire generation . Growing up near Alameda and Greenleaf, Eiht describes how the late ‘80s crack boom escalated violence, territorial conflicts, and drive-bys, turning Compton into a war zone.

Eiht opens up about joining Tragniew Park Crips at 13, explaining the realities of gang affiliation, street politics, and survival. He details how crack money intensified conflicts between neighborhoods and how music ultimately became his way out. Inspired by early hip-hop like Run-DMC and West Coast pioneers, Eiht formed Compton’s Most Wanted, carving out a lane separate from N.W.A. while still paying homage to Eazy-E and Ice Cube .

The interview also dives into Eiht’s legendary rap beef with DJ Quik, revealing how misunderstandings escalated into diss records like “Death Wish” and “Dollars & Sense,” and how the tension was eventually resolved face-to-face. Eiht reflects on the dangers of gang affiliation in hip-hop, commenting on artists who adopt gang identities later in life and the real-life consequences that can follow.

Eiht also shares insight into working on Menace II Society, Tupac’s originally intended role in the film, and how industry politics and personality clashes altered the cast. He gives his perspective on Tupac’s gang affiliation in his final years, explaining how stepping into real street conflicts can have irreversible consequences.

This interview blends West Coast rap history, street reality, industry politics, and firsthand accounts from one of Compton’s most respected voices.

During a recent interview, Tony Yayo detailed a tense encounter with rapper Ja Rule on a packed Delta Airlines flight following Super Bowl weekend. Yayo explained that he, Uncle Murda, and their crew knew Ja Rule would be on the same plane and were unbothered, choosing not to avoid him. The situation escalated when Ja Rule, visibly nervous, tried to stash his bags in the already crowded first-class overhead bins. Uncle Murda confronted Ja Rule with a stern warning, leading to a heated exchange. Yayo said Ja Rule seemed uneasy about sitting near them, likely recalling previous conflicts involving 50 Cent. "He's lucky 50 Cent wasn’t there," Yayo remarked, implying the encounter could have turned more physical if the G-Unit leader had been present. Despite the drama, the flight proceeded without further incident, with Yayo emphasizing their readiness but no intent to miss their flight over the conflict.

Travis Scott Tours a $65M Mansion, Talks Architecture, Movies, 'Utopia' Tour, & More |
Travis Scott Tours a $65M Mansion, Talks Architecture, Movies, 'Utopia' Tour, & More | Hotney 6 Streams • 6 months ago

For Rolling Stone's February 2026 cover story, #travisscott tours an 18,000-square-foot brutalist mansion in Beverly Hills owned by the founder of Oakley Sunglasses that's for sale for $65,000,000. One of rap's biggest superstars talks to Senior Music Editor Jeff Ihaza about his big plans for the future, his favorite movies, how #architecture inspires him (and his goals of studying it), and a lot more.

Travis Scott on his love for architecture: "I want to go to school eventually and study engineering and architecture. It's not even about the school, it's about learning. I thought about Berkeley or maybe like Harvard? They have a good architecture school. I like spaces. I love experiences. I love things that make you come alive. Certain things are inspirations, whether it's like cars, whether it's furniture, shoes, clothes, whatever. They're all inspiration and such. They can give you a drive or wake you up to push you to go do something."

Travis Scott on where his 'Utopia' world tour felt the craziest: "South Korea was crazy. Man, that was my first time I've ever been there, period. That shit was different. Johannesburg was fire. Europe, the whole Europe...every place was next level. South Korea, I said that because it took me by surprise. I didn't expect it. It was my first time being there. Fans were just going crazy. You would have thought you was in like Manchester or something, or London or something. Even like China, India, you know...nuts. Maybe I'm just saying that now because it was the last thing or most recent. South America was insane. Just seeing different walks of lives and people that just enjoy the same thing and idolize the same thing as you and other people as far as like music and experience. I know I just named nine different places, that's why it's not fair. We all won."

Travis Scott on keeping movie theaters open: "This is what I say to Ted [Sarandos, Netflix CEO]: You can't kill theaters man. I love watching movies at the house. It's cool for people, if you can't get to the theater, get it at the crib, it's something about being able to be at the house and being in your own little comfort sh*t. But the theaters is so important, it's like concerts is so important...Going and being able to get that surround. All the people that spend so much time: sound design, even just the visual coloring, the lenses...it's so much details that goes into shooting a film. I'm not saying that the TVs are taking that experience away but the whole theatrical experience, you need that."

Jimmy Iovine is the co-founder of Interscope Records, Beats by Dre, and the USC Jimmy Iovine and Andre Young Academy. Iovine is widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in the modern music industry.

Growing up in the Red Hook neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York, Iovine was raised in an Italian working-class family. He began working as a recording engineer in the early 1970s, and went on to engineer landmark albums including Bruce Springsteen's Born to Run and John Lennon's Rock 'n' Roll and Walls and Bridges, before transitioning into production with Patti Smith's Easter, Tom Petty's Damn the Torpedoes, Stevie Nicks' Bella Donna, and U2's Rattle and Hum.

In 1990, Iovine co-founded Interscope Records with Ted Field. Under his leadership, the label became one of the most dominant forces in popular music, launching or elevating the careers of Dr. Dre, Tupac Shakur, Nine Inch Nails, No Doubt, Eminem, 50 Cent, Lady Gaga, and Kendrick Lamar. He rose to become chairman of Interscope Geffen A&M Records. In 2006, he and Dr. Dre co-founded Beats by Dre, which Apple acquired in 2014 for $3 billion — the largest acquisition in Apple's history at the time. Iovine subsequently helped launch Apple Music in 2015 before departing Apple in 2018.

His accomplishments include being inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2022 with the Ahmet Ertegun Award, being honored by the Recording Academy's Producers & Engineers Wing during Grammy Week 2012, co-founding the USC Jimmy Iovine and Andre Young Academy in 2013 with a $70 million donation alongside Dr. Dre, launching the Iovine and Young Center high school program in Los Angeles in 2022 with additional locations in Atlanta and Inglewood, and donating to the city of Compton during the COVID-19 pandemic to fund medical supplies, testing, and meals for residents.

In the latest clip, Aaron Carter reacted to Britney Spears ending her conservatorship after a lengthy battle. The former teen pop star pointed out that he ended up in a similar battle with his family after exposing their "dirty laundry." Aaron Carter singled out his brother and twin sister as the main people attempting a smear campaign against him before discussing a community of haters who have continuously targeted him. He claimed the group has called up promoters with unfavorable or false news about the singer. Carter also claimed he has to move for a third time due to haters leaking his address. Check out the above clip to hear more.

In the latest clip, Aaron Carter addressed his previous claims of his parents blowing $500 million of his money. He added that when his parents started selling the properties, he didn't get a cut of any of the profits. Aaron Carter also revealed his father shot a .44 magnum near his ear, causing him to go 70 percent deaf in one ear, in order to force him into signing a $256,000 check. Later in the clip, Aaron Carter talked about working with Lou Pearlman and addressed the molestation accusations against the record producer. To hear more, check out the clip above.

YoungBoy Never Broke Again has had one of the most dominant runs in modern rap, but accolades have never been his focus. In this candid sit-down with Complex's Senior Music Editorial Content Producer, Jordan Rose, YoungBoy reflects on being named Complex’s Best Rapper Alive of 2025, his complicated relationship with fame, and why industry recognition still doesn’t fully register for him.

From life in Utah and finding peace away from the spotlight, to returning to the road after house arrest, touring with Birdman, and reconnecting with fans at a massive scale, YoungBoy opens up in his own unfiltered way. He also discusses fatherhood, mental growth, owning his masters, his creative process, and why his upcoming album Slime Cry represents a new chapter—one defined less by pain and more by letting things go. This is a rare look at an artist who’s still evolving, even while sitting at the top.

Destin Conrad: Tiny Desk Concert
Destin Conrad: Tiny Desk Concert Hotney 7 Streams • 7 months ago

Alanté Serene | January 12, 2026
Confident. Creative. Cool. Those are three words that describe Destin Conrad as he makes his Tiny Desk debut, transforming our office into his own version of a jazz club. Fresh off his first Grammy nomination, the singer-songwriter arrived ready to prove exactly why it was earned. Conrad weaves songs from his alt-R&B album, LOVE ON DIGITAL, with tracks from his alt-jazz project, wHIMSY, to build an alternative universe rooted entirely in intention.

The set takes off with the controlled tension of "wHIP," giving space for a trumpet solo from Keyon Harrold before effortlessly easing into "wASH U AWAY." Next, Conrad introduces Vanisha Gould for the playful duet, "A Lonely Detective." He then reimagines songs from LOVE ON DIGITAL in ways we've never heard before, including a moody, seductive turn as his chain-smoking alter-ego, "MR. E." That leads us seamlessly into the warm, gentle groove of "SO NICE." As Conrad concludes with his charming cut, "KISSING IN PUBLIC," it's clear that he's an artist fully in command of his universe, inviting anyone lucky enough to watch to step inside it with him.
