The Paper Dolls - Something Here In My Heart - Vjoew 1968 • TopPop Hotney 2 Streams • 3 years ago

The Paper Dolls were a late 1960s British female vocal trio, from Northampton, comprising lead vocalist Susie 'Tiger' Mathis, Pauline 'Spyder' Bennett and Sue 'Copper' Marshall.
They appeared some years before similar recording acts such as Bananarama and Atomic Kitten became commonplace. Anticipating the Spice Girls, each member of the group had a nickname.

"Something Here in My Heart"
Signed to Pye Records, Paper Dolls had one solitary success. The song, "Something Here in My Heart (Keeps A-Tellin’ Me No)", which was their debut single, and was written by Tony Macaulay and John Macleod, reached Number 11 in the UK Singles Chart in 1968. The enduring image of the Paper Dolls, as seen, for example, on BBC Television's Top of the Pops, was inescapably that of three young women in miniskirts, the popularity and brevity of which were at their height at the time. Moreover, the name of the group was itself suggestive of "dolly birds", a rather impersonal term which, in the 1970s, journalist Christopher Booker associated with "girls [being] transformed into throwaway plastic objects"
This video was first broadcast in Dutch tv Program 'Vjoew' on 18 March 1968.
The singles reached #5 in the Dutch Tipparade on May 11, 1968

The Three Degrees is an American female vocal group, which was originally formed in 1965 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
The original members were Fayette Pinkney, Shirley Porter and Linda Turner. Porter and Turner were soon replaced by Janet Harmon and Helen Scott. The line-up from 1967 to 1976 was Pinkney, Valerie Holiday and Sheila Ferguson, who would go on to sing lead on most of the group's biggest hits.
This performance in the Netherlands was recorded and broadcast in the program 'Miss Holland' on January 4, 1974.
'Dirty Ole' Man reached no. 1 in the Dutch Top 40 (and consequently also no. 1 in the Belgian charts). Also it charted in Germany (#34) but did not reach the Billboard Top 100.

Because the original tape was in a bad state, this is the best we could do digitizing this tape, so unfortunately we have to live with this quality, our apologies!

Juliane Werding - Geh nicht in die Stadt • TopPop Hotney 2 Streams • 3 years ago

We could not think of a more appropriate song for times like these when there is a street curfew at 21.00 hrs in the Netherlands this week.
Deze oproep van Juliane Werding is nu meer actueel dan ooit: ga de stad niet in maar blijf thuis vanaf 21.00 uur!

Juliane Werding (born 19 July 1956 in Essen) is a German singer and alternative therapy practitioner (Heilpraktiker).
Her recordings include "Am Tag, als Conny Kramer starb" and "Nacht voll Schatten" in 1983 (German cover of Mike Oldfield's "Moonlight Shadow"). "Am Tag, als Conny Kramer starb" is the tune of the American song "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down" by The Band with new lyrics about a different subject. Werding wrote several books and lives in Starnberg near Munich, where she works in alternative therapy. She has two children. In 2009, she quit the show business to focus on working as a Heilpraktiker.

This song was first broadcast by Toppop on 12 April 1984 and reached # 14 in the Dutch Top 40 on 12 May 1984.
In her own Germany this song only reached #24 in the charts.
This version is an alternate version of her other Toppop recording:

Manfred Mann's Earth Band - Spirits In The Night - 19-09-1975 • TopPop Hotney 5 Streams • 3 years ago

Manfred Mann's Earth Band is an English rock band formed by South African musician Manfred Mann. Their hits include covers of Bruce Springsteen's "For You", "Blinded by the Light" and "Spirit in the Night". After forming in 1971 and with a short hiatus in the late 1980s/early 1990s, the Earth Band continues to perform and tour.

Keyboardist Manfred Mann started in the 1960s with the self-titled band that had such hits as "Do Wah Diddy Diddy" and Bob Dylan's "The Mighty Quinn" and then moved on to jazz fusion-inspired Manfred Mann Chapter Three before forming the Earth Band in 1971.
The original line-up of Manfred Mann's Earth Band consisted of Mick Rogers (guitar and vocals), Manfred Mann (keyboards, Minimoog synthesizer and vocals), Colin Pattenden (bass guitar) and Chris Slade (drums and vocals). In its very earliest stages, the band was simply billed as "Manfred Mann" and thus a continuation of the 1960s group.
The US breakthrough for the band came in the third week of February 1977, when they charted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with a cover of Bruce Springsteen's "Blinded by the Light" from The Roaring Silence. Before this hit, Mick Rogers and Colin Pattenden had left the band (after Nightingales & Bombers) and Chris Thompson (lead vocals, guitar), Dave Flett (lead guitar, backing vocals) and Pat King (bass) had been quickly recruited to replace them (although Rogers still contributed backing vocals to the album).

Taking advantage of the publicity of their hit song, the band re-released another Springsteen song, "Spirit in the Night", re-titled "Spirits in the Night", which the band had released the previous year on Nightingales & Bombers, in a vocally re-cut version with Chris Thompson taking a new lead vocal in place of Mick Rogers' vocal on the original album version. Following this popular success, the Earth Band released the aforementioned Watch (1978), which produced another UK hit single in "Davy's on the Road Again".

This single reached #No 15 in the Dutch Top 40 on on 4 October 1975

George Harrison - My Sweet Lord (1970) • TopPop Hotney 1 Streams • 3 years ago

"My Sweet Lord" is a song by English musician George Harrison, released in November 1970 on his triple album All Things Must Pass. It was also released as a single, Harrison's first as a solo artist, and topped charts worldwide; it was the biggest-selling single of 1971 in the UK. In America and Britain, the song was the first number-one single by an ex-Beatle. Harrison originally gave the song to his fellow Apple Records artist Billy Preston to record; this version, which Harrison co-produced, appeared on Preston's Encouraging Words album in September 1970.

George Harrison MBE (25 February 1943 – 29 November 2001) was an English musician, singer, songwriter, and music and film producer who achieved international fame as the lead guitarist of the Beatles. Sometimes called "the quiet Beatle", Harrison embraced Indian culture and helped broaden the scope of popular music through his incorporation of Indian instrumentation and Hindu-aligned spirituality in the Beatles' work. Although the majority of the band's songs were written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney, most Beatles albums from 1965 onwards contained at least two Harrison compositions. His songs for the group include "Taxman", "Within You Without You", "While My Guitar Gently Weeps", "Here Comes the Sun" and "Something".
This video-edit was made by Toppop and first broadcast on 22 December 1970.

Fox the Fox - Precious Little Diamond • TopPop Hotney 6 Streams • 3 years ago

"Precious Little Diamond" is a 1984 song by the Dutch Euro disco group Fox the Fox. It's the sixth track on the album 'In The Dark Of The Nite'.
The single peaked as number 11 on the Dutch singles Chart, staying on the chart for 7 weeks.

Fox the Fox was founded in 1981 by Berth Tamaëla and Sylvia Musmin in 1981. Among the members were bassist Gino Jansen, guitarist Kier van der Werf, keyboardist Roy Kuschel, and drummers Robbie Brans, Tjalling Bos and Han Langkamp. Musmin wrote all the lyrics. In 1984 they released the single "Precious Little Diamond", which reached fifth place in Germany, number 18 on the U.S. Billboard Hot Dance Music/Club Play, 15 in France, 38 in Belgium and 86 in the United Kingdom. Subsequent singles and albums were not successful.

Dieter Bohlen has been cited with this song as the inspiration for using falsetto choruses in his songs, such as Modern Talking, C.C. Catch and Blue System. In 2013, the song was sampled in The Weeknd's song "Wanderlust", on his album Kiss Land. The Weeknd samples the melody, the original chorus and a part of the original lyrics.

This Toppop recording was first broadcast on May 31, 1984.

Gabriele Susanne Kerner (born 24 March 1960), better known as Nena, is a German singer-songwriter, actress, and comedian who rose to international fame in 1983 as the eponymous lead vocalist of the band Nena with the Neue Deutsche Welle song "99 Luftballons". In the same year the band re-recorded this song in English as "99 Red Balloons". Nena's re-recording of some of the band's old hit songs as a solo artist, produced by the co-composer of most of them, her former Nena band colleague and keyboard player Uwe Fahrenkrog-Petersen, rekindled her solo career in 2002. Combined with the success of the Nena band years, she has sold over 25 million records, making her one of Germany's most successful music artists.
This Toppop recording of 'Fragezeichen' (German for 'question mark') was first broadcast on January 5, 1984. The single reached #12 in the Dutch Top 40 in January 1984.

ABBA - Money, Money, Money - 19 November 1976 - Toppop
ABBA - Money, Money, Money - 19 November 1976 - Toppop Hotney 1 Streams • 3 years ago

On May 15 we published the premiere of this long lost video of ABBA. 'Money Money Money' was the first of the three ABBA songs from this long lost tape. Last saturday we published 'When I Kissed The Teacher'. And next saturday we will publish the last song 'Why Did It Have To Be Me'. Stay tuned to our Toppop channel!

On November 19, 1976, ABBA were on top of the charts around the world. Their album ‘Arrival’ was just released and in many countries on its way to the top of the album charts. And the latest single, ‘Money, Money, Money’ was already no. 1 in many countries.

In the Netherlands, ABBA-mania reached its peak that day, because ABBA paid a spectacular one day visit to the Netherlands to promote ‘Arrival’ with a full program: a press conference with gold and platinum record awards, photo sessions and interviews and to top it all, a performance in the super popular AVRO tv- program ‘Een van de 8’.
Earlier that year ‘Fernando’ and ‘Dancing Queen’ had been in the no. 1 spot of the Dutch Top 40 for many weeks. And now ‘Money Money Money’ was on its way to become their third consecutive No. 1 hit in the Netherlands within six months. ABBA was super hot.

This is one of the long lost tapes of that tv program in which ABBA did three songs from 'Arrival': ‘Money, Money, Money’, ‘When I Kissed The Teacher’ and ‘Why Did It Have To Be Me’.

"Money, Money, Money" was written by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus. It was released as a single on 1 November 1976, as the follow-up to "Dancing Queen" (both from the album Arrival). The B-side, "Crazy World", was recorded in 1974 during the sessions for the album ABBA. The song (originally titled "Gypsy Girl") is sung from the viewpoint of a woman who, despite hard work, can barely keep her finances in surplus, and therefore desires a well-off man.
It reached the no. 1 position in The Netherlands, Belgium, Australia, New Zealand, France and Germany, and no. 2 in norway, and Switzerland. In the UK it reached #3.

Today, May 15, 2021, just in time before the Eurovision Song Contest kicks off in the Netherlands next week, we can present to you the premiere of this clip from that performance. In coming weeks we will upload the other two songs.
Enjoy!

Donna Summer - Love Is In Control (Finger On The Trigger) (1982) • TopPop Hotney 3 Streams • 3 years ago

Today, May 17, 2021, we commemorate Donna Summer's untimely death nine years ago.

LaDonna Adrian Gaines (December 31, 1948 – May 17, 2012), known professionally as Donna Summer, was an American singer, songwriter and actress. She gained prominence during the disco era of the 1970s and became known as the "Queen of Disco", while her music gained a global following.

Joining a touring version of the musical Hair, she left New York and spent several years living, acting and singing in Germany, where she met music producers Giorgio Moroder and Pete Bellotte in Munich, where they recorded influential disco hits such as "Love to Love You Baby" and "I Feel Love", marking her breakthrough into an international career.
Summer returned to the United States in 1975, and other hits such as "Last Dance", "MacArthur Park", "Heaven Knows", "Hot Stuff", "Bad Girls", "Dim All the Lights", "No More Tears (Enough Is Enough)" (duet with Barbra Streisand) and "On the Radio" followed.

"Love Is in Control (Finger on the Trigger)" is a Grammy-nominated single from Donna Summer's self-titled 1982 album. The single was her 12th top 10 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
This music video features Donna Summer dancing in a room full of pop art. She wore a black satin outfit to disguise her pregnancy as she was expecting her baby, Amanda Grace. The video also featured clips of Donna dancing during a photo shoot wearing a blue dress with a large belt to cover her stomach. The same dress (outfit) is what she is wearing on the cover for the single and album.
The video was first broadcast by Toppop on August 20, 1982.

Billy Joel & The Hassles - You've Got Me Hummin' - Vjoew 13-05-1968 - Toppop Hotney 3 Streams • 3 years ago

We publish this unique and rare video because it could be one of Billy Joel's first ever recorded videos!

The Hassles found their place in music history as Billy Joel's first recorded moment, but musically they deserve more. Though they only released two albums, the Hassles were a pretty proficient, highly enjoyable, though not particularly groundbreaking act that saw a fair amount of local attention in the Long Island area.
The Hassles were a blue-eyed soul band, modeled somewhat after the Rascals, formed in Long Island in 1964 by drummer Jon Small, singer John Dizek, organist Harry Webber, and guitarist Richie McKenna. Webber was fired from the band in 1966 due to erratic behavior and Billy Joel, who had earned a local reputation as a keyboardist with the Echoes, the Lost Souls, and the Commandos (as Billy Joe Joel), was enlisted to take his place on the condition that the band also take on bassist Howie Blauvelt.

The Hassles were most notable for recording the first releases to feature Billy Joel. The group released two full-length albums (United Artists Records) and a number of singles.

The original line-up of the group consisted of vocalist John Dizek (September 25, 1948 – June 27, 2017), guitarist Richard McKenna, drummer Jon Small, and organist Harry Weber.
In 1966 Weber was fired from the band due to excessive drug use (found dead a few years later on a railroad track) and was replaced by Howie Arthur Blauvelt and Billy Joel on bass and keyboards respectively. It is with this lineup that the band recorded their self-titled debut album in 1967.
Blauvelt departed the band early in 1968 but returned later on in the year. Dizek departed the band in late 1968, at which point Joel took over on vocals. The band released their second album, Hour of the Wolf, in 1969, before disbanding.
Following the demise of The Hassles, Joel and Small formed the duo Attila, whilst Blauvelt later co-founded Ram Jam. Joel later went on to a successful solo career, and Small became a video producer and director.

Billy Joel (William Martin Joel, born May 9, 1949) is an American musician, singer-songwriter, and composer. Commonly nicknamed the "Piano Man" after his first major hit and signature song of the same name as well as the similarly named 1973 album, he has led a commercially successful career as a solo artist since the 1970s, having released 12 studio albums from 1971 to 1993 as well as one studio album in 2001. He is one of the best-selling music artists of all time, as well as the seventh-best-selling recording artist and the fourth-best-selling solo artist in the United States, with over 150 million records sold worldwide.
This unique video was first broadcast in AVRO's tv program 'Vjoew!' on May 13, 1968!

Steve Miller Band - Rock'n Me (live - 1976) - Toppop Hotney 2 Streams • 3 years ago

The Steve Miller Band is an American rock band formed in 1966 in San Francisco, California. The band is led by Steve Miller on guitar and lead vocals. The group had a string of mid- to late-1970s hit singles that are staples of classic rock radio, as well as several earlier psychedelic rock albums. Miller left his first band to move to San Francisco and form the Steve Miller Blues Band. Shortly after Harvey Kornspan negotiated the band's contract with Capitol Records in 1967, the band shortened its name to the Steve Miller Band. In February 1968, the band recorded its debut album, Children of the Future. It went on to produce the albums Sailor, Brave New World, Your Saving Grace, Number 5, Rock Love, Fly Like an Eagle, Book of Dreams, among others. The band's Greatest Hits 1974–78, released in 1978, sold over 13 million copies. In 2016, Steve Miller was inducted as a solo artist in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

'Rock'n Me' is the 3rd single from 'Fly Like an Eagle', the ninth studio album by the Steve Miller Band. The album was released in May 1976 by Capitol Records in the United States, Canada and Japan and Mercury Records in Europe.
The album was a success, spawning three singles: the title track, "Take the Money and Run" and "Rock'n Me", and eventually receiving quadruple platinum certification from the RIAA.
It was voted number 400 in the third edition of Colin Larkin's All Time Top 1000 Albums (2000). In 2012, the album was ranked number 445 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

On August 9, 2021, Whitney Houston would have turned 58. To commemorate her we publish this video today. This is a YouTube première!

Whitney Elizabeth Houston (August 9, 1963 – February 11, 2012) was an American singer and actress. She is one of the best-selling music artists of all time, with sales of over 200 million records worldwide. Houston's vocal performances, as well as her prominence on the MTV and popular music charts, have influenced many African American artists.

Houston began singing in church as a child and became a background vocalist while in high school. She was one of the first black women to appear on the cover of Seventeen magazine after becoming a teen model in 1981. With the guidance of Arista Records chairman Clive Davis, Houston signed to the label at age 19. Her first two studio albums, Whitney Houston (1985) and Whitney (1987), both peaked at number one on the Billboard 200 and are among the best-selling albums of all time. She is the only artist to have seven consecutive number-one singles on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart, from "Saving All My Love for You" in 1985 to "Where Do Broken Hearts Go" in 1988. Houston's third studio album, I'm Your Baby Tonight (1990), was certified quintuple platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and yielded two Billboard Hot 100 number-one singles, the title track "I'm Your Baby Tonight" and "All the Man That I Need".

Whitney Houston visited the Netherlands in March 1985 just 2 weeks after the USA release of her first album 'Whitney Houston'.
This song from that album was not released in the USA or UK.
In the Netherlands it became her first hit, charting in the Tipparade as early as 16 March 1985 and reaching #5 in the Dutch Top 40 on 18 May 1985. This single did not get a release or chartposition in any other European country or chart.

This performance in TROS' Formula One tv-program on March 25, 1985 was one of Whitney's very first rare performances in the Netherlands, the first in Whitney's career.

To commemorate what would have been the 63rd anniversary of Michael Jackson, today, August 29, 2021, we publish this early Jacksons tv appearance from 1979.

The Jackson 5, later known as the Jacksons, were an American pop band composed of members of the Jackson family. The group was founded in 1964 in Gary, Indiana by brothers Jackie, Tito, and Jermaine, with younger brothers Marlon and Michael Jackson joining soon after.
"Shake Your Body (Down to the Ground)" is a song of their 1978 album Destiny, and released as a single in 1979. It peaked at No. 7 in the Billboard Hot 100 in May 1979.
The chorus "let's dance/let's shout (shout)/shake your body down to the ground" was inspired by an ad-lib from Marvin Gaye's "Got to Give It Up": "Let's dance/let's shout (shout)/gettin' funky's what it's all about"
On 31 March 1979 it reached #3 in the Dutch Top 40.
This recording was broadcast by Dutch TROS TV program TROS Top 50 Rock Planet on 10 March 1979. This is a different take from the video we released 2 years ago:

Pussycat - A Wet Day In September (1978) - Tros Top 50 • TopPop Hotney 5 Streams • 3 years ago

'Wet day in September' is a song by Pussycat. The group released it in 1978 as a single and the album of the same name. The song is written by Werner Theunissen. The single was produced by Eddy Hilberts and the arrangement came from Paul Natte.

Pussycat was a Dutch pop group from Brunssum in Limburg led by the three Kowalczyk sisters: Toni, Betty and Marianne. Other members of the band were Lou Willé (Toni's then-husband), Theo Wetzels, Theo Coumans, and John Theunissen. The band had four international hits in a row in the mid-seventies: Mississippi (1975), Georgia (1976), Smile (1976) and My broken souvenirs (1977) and then a series of hit singles in the Netherlands and Belgium. Mississippi was number 1 the Netherlands and in another 15 countries but was not hit in the US, where that river originates. 'Mississippi' achieved 22 gold records. It is estimated that "Mississippi" sold over five million copies worldwide. Most of of Pussycat's songs were written by Werner Theunissen.
This video was recorded by TROS Top 50 and first broadcast on August 1, 1978. All TROS Top 50 video's are of a lesser quality due to the origin on U-Matic tapes.

Blondie - (I'm Always Touched By Your) Presence Dear - 29 April 1978 - Toppop Hotney 2 Streams • 3 years ago

Blondie is an American rock band co-founded by singer Debbie Harry, and guitarist Chris Stein.
The band were pioneers in the American punk and then the new wave scene of the mid-1970s in New York. Its first two albums contained strong elements of these genres, and although highly successful in the United Kingdom and Australia, Blondie was regarded as an underground band in the United States until the release of Parallel Lines in 1978. Over the next three years, the band achieved several hit singles including "Heart of Glass", "Call Me", "Rapture" and "The Tide Is High". The band became noted for its eclectic mix of musical styles incorporating elements of disco, pop, reggae, and early rap music.

"(I'm Always Touched by Your) Presence, Dear" is a song from their 1978 album 'Plastic Letters'. Written by recently departed Blondie bassist Gary Valentine, the song was based on the telepathic connections that Valentine experienced with his girlfriend, journalist Lisa Jane Persky, while on tour. Though Valentine had left the band, drummer Clem Burke convinced the band to record the song for Plastic Letters.

"Presence, Dear" was released in 1978 as the second single from 'Plastic Letters', reaching number 10 in the UK singles chart in May 1978. It was never released as a single in the US. The song has since seen critical acclaim and has been ranked by some music writers as one of the band's best songs.

This is the second performance of Blondie in Toppop (the first was in February 1978 with 'Denis')
Later that year 1978 Blondie recorded a tv special of the entire 'Parallel Lines' album.
This is a different take from that second Toppop performance, April 29, 1978

Grandmaster Melle Mel And The Furious Five - Step Off - (1985) • TopPop Hotney 2 Streams • 3 years ago

Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five was an American hip hop group formed in the South Bronx of New York City in 1978. The group's members were Grandmaster Flash, Melle Mel, The Kidd Creole (not to be confused with Kid Creole), Keef Cowboy, Scorpio and Rahiem. The group's use of turntablism, breakbeat DJing, and conscious lyricism were significant in the early development of hip hop music.

In the late 1970s, Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five built their reputation and achieved local success by performing at parties and live shows. By 1980, the group had signed with Sugar Hill Records. Under Sugar Hill Records, the group rose to prominence in the early 1980s with their first hit "Freedom". It was not until the release of the song "The Message" in 1982 and the album of the same name that they achieved mainstream success. The song provided a political and social commentary and went on to become a driving force behind conscious hip-hop.

Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five split into two separate groups, due to differences, until a brief reunion in 1987 led to the release of the original line-up's second album On the Strength. Afterwards, they disbanded permanently. Today, the group's legacy continues as Grandmaster's Furious Five with only Melle Mel and Scorpio as remaining members.

The group are widely regarded as one of the greatest groups of all time. They were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2007; the first hip hop group to be inducted. In 2002, its first year of archival, "The Message" was one of 50 recordings chosen by the Library of Congress to be added to the National Recording Registry. Rolling Stone ranked "The Message" number 51 on its list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time in 2004.

Hans Vermeulen – gitaar
Jan Vermeulen – basgitaar
Erik Tagg – dwarsfluit, piano
Shell Schellekens – drumstel

Anita Ward (born December 20, 1957) is an American singer and musician. She is best known for her 1979 million-selling chart-topper "Ring My Bell".
"Ring My Bell" is a 1979 disco song written by Frederick Knight. The song was originally written for then eleven-year-old Stacy Lattisaw, as a teenybopper song about kids talking on the telephone. When Lattisaw signed with a different label, Anita Ward was asked to sing it instead, and it became her only major hit.

"Ring My Bell" went to number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, the Disco Top 80 chart and the Soul Singles chart. It also reached number 1 on the UK Singles Chart. It also garnered Ward a nomination for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance at the 1980 Grammy Awards.
In the Netherlands the single reached no.2 in the Dutch Top 40 on August 11, 1979.
This video is recorded during the broadcast of the TROS TOP 50, episode no 52 on June 23, 1979.

Heart is an American rock band formed in 1967 in Seattle, Washington as The Army. Two years later, The Army changed their name to Hocus Pocus, then they changed their name again to White Heart a year later, but eventually changed the name a final time to Heart in 1973. By the mid-1970s, original members Roger Fisher (guitar) and Steve Fossen (bass guitar) had been joined by sisters Ann Wilson (lead vocals and flute) and Nancy Wilson (rhythm guitar, backing and occasional lead vocals), Michael Derosier (drums), and Howard Leese (guitar and keyboards) to form the lineup for the band's initial mid- to late-1970s success period. These core members were included in the band's 2013 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Heart rose to fame with music influenced by hard rock and heavy metal, as well as folk music. The band's popularity declined in the early 1980s, but the band began a successful comeback in 1985 which continued into the mid-1990s. Heart disbanded in 1998, resumed performing in 2002, went on hiatus in 2016, and resumed performing in the summer of 2019. Heart's US Top 40 singles include "Magic Man" (1975), "Crazy on You" (1976), "Barracuda" (1977), "What About Love" (1985), "Never" (1985), and "All I Wanna Do Is Make Love to You" (1990), along with no. 1 hits "These Dreams" (1986) and "Alone" (1987).

"Barracuda" is a song from their third studio album, Little Queen (1977), and was released as the album's lead single. The song peaked at number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100.
