Here's a re-mastered copy of Post Malone’s live-streamed country covers set from the Outside Lands Festival in San Francisco on August 11, 2024.
This performance showcased Post Malone at an intense moment: the rapper who emerged from Soundcloud nearly a decade ago with braids and auto-tuned croons will finalize his journey into country music later this month with the release of "F-1 Trillion," an album recorded in Nashville with many of the city's largest successes.
Fittingly, the show was a re-introduction to the artist and included several classic hits in the genre.
In this set, Post Malone covers some of the biggest names in country music, including Luke Combs’ “When It Rains, It Pours.” It is a must-watch for any fan of Post Malone and country music.

The Smashing Pumpkins third release 1995’s Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness would represent a commercial high for the band, but the tour for the record was an emotional roller coaster. They would run into trouble with drummer Jimmy Chamberlin who was dealing with drug addiction and they would lose touring keyboardist Jonathan Melvoin to an overdose. The band’s turmoil wasnt just limited to their own bandmates, but also included their fans as well. During a Spring stopover in Dublin, Ireland, one of the concert goers would end up losing their life and to some fans the band have never been the same since.
Prior to the events in Dublin,, the Smashing Pumpkins were known to be a band who was against moshing and other ritualistic rock n’ roll behavior. From 1994 to 1996 there was a fair deal of press coverage on moshing with a big focus being on recent fans deaths and injuries. These events resulted in litigation against venues, promoters, and the artists themselves. In fact, the smashing pumpkins were known to be openly against moshing with Corgan being quoted as saying in the mid 90’s “”It’s time has come and gone. It’s ceased to be a spontaneous act.” A year prior to the Dublin show, Corgan was quoted by MTV as telling an audience in Chicago
I just want to say one thing to you, you young, college lughead-types. I've been watchin' people like you sluggin' around other people for seven years. And you know what? It's the same s***. I wish you'd understand that in an environment like this, and in a setting like this, it's fairly inappropriate and unfair to the rest of the people around you. I, and we, publicly take a stand against moshing!
The band’s show at the Point Theater in Dublin, Ireland took place on May 11, 1996. News reports have varied on the exact crowd size, but it seems to range anywhere from 7,000 to 8,500 fans. The concert promoters claimed the venue was within capacity requirements. There were about 110 security guards working the event for a gig that was general admission affair, meaning no chairs on the main floor.
Even before the band hit the stage, there seemed to be issues during Filter’s opening set. The police in Dublin held an inquiry following the tragic concert and heard testimony from concert goers. One concert named Robert Acton told the inquiry "A number of people were coming in. People were sitting in the balconies and they started moving down. This was when I started to worry. The security men were behind barriers. I was being squashed and crushed.
"A guy fell down. I put out my hand to help him up. The crowd was moving from side to side. I tell. I could see the crowd coming over my head and tramping my head and rib cage. Someone kicked me on the bottom of my nose and I lost consciousness. "Four guys were trying to lift me and get me to the Red Cross. I could not breathe, I'm slightly asthmatic. I asked for an inhaler. They did not have one, but they put me on a nebuliser."
Acton would reveal how he lost consciousness again, was given an injection and placed on a stretcher. After a period of time he returned to the crowd and people were now jumping up and down. He noticed a lot of people were now on the ground and he would find his friends and leave the show. He would visit the doctor the next day and got an x-ray that showed he had broken one of his ribs.
Another attendee for the inquiry would be quoted as saying "there was no room whatsoever for dancing. People were preoccupied with keeping themselves straight, and alive".
Throughout the Smashing Pumpkins set, the crowd was rowdy with Corgan having to stop the show several times. The first stoppage happened three songs into the set. Here’s what Billy Said. Then five songs later, Billy stopped the show again for six minutes to calm down the crowd.Five songs later, Corgan again stops the show with word getting to the band that a young girl was seriously injured. The band would cut their set short, playing an 11 song show that ended with Cherub rock. Here’s Corgan and bassist D’Arcy Wretzky addressing the crowd.
Some posters on the Ireland subreddit would describe the experience of attending the gig with one redditor writing

In 1991 Alice in Chains would join the Clash of the Titans tour - a package tour that included Anthrax, Slayer and Megadeth. While Alice in Chains has earned the respect of metal fans around the world, they were pretty early in their career in this point and people didn’t really know who they were or they were starting to wake up to how great this band is.What you may not know, is that, Alice in Chains was never even supposed to be on the tour. In today’s video let’s talk about the Clash of the Titants tour and how the band went from being reviled by fans and pegged as a “hippy pop band” to earning the audience and fellow musicians respect.
In 1990 Alice in Chains would release their debut record Facelift. While we all know it later became a success thanks to the single man in the box, it was a truly slow burn and the band owed much of their success to MTV who added the song to it’s buzz bin in the spring of 1991. The album quickly went from 40,000 in sales to becoming gold, selling half a million copies.
The Clash of the Titans tour would have two legs. One took place from September to October of 1990 with the other taking place from May to July of 1991. For the second leg it was supposed to feature the Bay Area trash band Death Angel who was supposed to play the nearly 50 date tour acros North America. But on November 28, 1990 the band’s bus was involved in a crash that seriously injured their drummer Andy Galeon. Unable to perform the tour, Death Angel were replaced with Alice in Chains. For Alice in Chains they had toured with an eclectic bunch of artists for Facelieft with them first opening for the band Extreme, a band whose members and crew they did not really get along with. Then they went on to play with Iggy Pop, Poison and later Ozzy Osbourne and Van Halen.
Slayer guitarist Kerry King had initially branded Alice In Chains as a "a hippy pop band". While the label was inaccurate, it did foreshadow the attitude Alice would get from Slayer’s audience.
Alice in Chains Guitarist Jerry Cantrell would recall to an interview just how well received they were admitting “Slayer fans were brutal to us,” “When we played at Red Rocks, they were throwing so much shit at us that we could hardly see the crowd.
“Someone threw a huge water jug that knocked over Sean’s cymbals, and spit was flying everywhere. Layne just shouted ‘Fuck you!’ and spit back at them.” and trading blows with them. So we all jumped the barricades and did the same thing."
"We got right in their face, started kicking the shit they were throwing at us right back in their faces. And we finished our set."
King meanwhile would remember some audiences urinating in a big gallon jug and dumping it on alice in chains remarking "They dumped it on Alice in Chains more than once. I was just like, Goddamn, that sucks." It was a pretty frequent occurence for audiences to pelt alice in chains with whatever objects they could.
Following the show at Red Rocks, Alice in Chains headed back to their bus they ran into a group of Slayer fans who had backstage passes who started walking towards the band. Jerry would add ‘We’re gonna get our fuckin’ asses kicked.’ But they walked over and went, ‘Okay, man. You didn’t puss out. I guess you’re all right.’” Once the band got validation from Slayer fans, the band could feel like things were changing for them.
When the tour would stop in Seattle for a show at the Mercer arena, Megadeth leader Dave Mustaine would be interviewed by guitar world magazine. The interviewer would tell Mustaine that Alice in Chains used to be a glam band, which Mustaine wasn’t aware of. It had turned out the interviewer, a guy named Jeff Gilbert had some t-shirt designs of when Alice in Chains used to be more glam when they used the monicker Alice N’ Chains. . He sent some of the t-shirts to Mustaine who had his tour manager make posters from the photos and put them up all over the Mercer Arena. Gilbert would recall to author David De Sola in teh book alice in chains the untold story
“By the time Alice in Chains show
The early history of the band Vixen.

The rock scene of the 80’s was dominated by male musicians with big hair, but there was one band who emerged from the scene who was an all girl group who nabbed a major recording contract and had da good deal of succes, despite all the obstacles they faced. . I’m talking about the group Vixen whose career peaked in the late 80’s and early 90’s thanks to their glossy image and power ballads. Today let’s talk about the early career of vixen.
Vixen’s history begins in Minnesota in the 1970’s when guitarist Jan Koo-na-mind (keenamin) who according to the band’s own press release, was more into guitar than dolls, starting her first band in junior high with her best friend in St. Paul.. According to her own hometown paper She would later start a band named Vixen around 1973 gigging at Twin Cities establishments like the Cabooze, Duffy’s Bar, the Union and others Originally it was just the two of them playing guitar and singing, but they wanted to expand to a full band and had aspirations of hitting it big. They would find several other musicians in Minnesota and move out to Los Angeles around 1981 since there was a huge scene there and record labels were there as well. But LA was competitive and there were only so many gigs to be had - so it wasn’t uncommon for bands having to pay to play. So it was no surprise, that one by one the band's members left leaving Jan as the only remaining member. Initially she didn’t think about how some people would think it was weird for an all girl group to play rock music telling the record newspaper “it was just the kind of music that was in my blood” citing led zeppelin as one of her biggest influences adding. “Only after we started playing, and everyone kept telling us how weird it was, did we realize we were unique.”
Jan would end up first recruiting vocalist Janet Gardner. Gardner first started singing in bands in high school in montana. Gardner who moved to LA around 1984 was playing in several bands at the time including a cover band who played a show one night somewhere in the san fernando valley. Gardner recalled in the book nothing but a good time. On one of our breaks, some girl comes up to me and goes, “I know this band that’s looking for a singer that you would be perfect for. I know the manager. I’m gonna have him call you.” I’m like, “Wow. They have a manager. That’s pretty impressive!” The next night the woman returned and brought the band with Janet adding I was expecting long-haired, guy-looking people. She came up to me and he goes, “I brought the band.” I was like, “Really? I didn’t see anybody.” She goes, “Yeah, they’re right over there.” It was [Vixen guitarist] Jan Kuehnemund and a bunch of girls. I was like, “Oh … it’s a girl band.” She goes, “Yeah, but you have to keep an open mind.” I said, “Well, of course, but I don’t want to be in the Go-Go’s.”
Koonamind and Gardner along with three temporary members at the time would appear in the 1984 film Hardbddies performing as a band using the monicker diaper rash.
They would end up writing six songs for the film, which was more songs than they wrote for their debut record. The appearance led to a segment on the show entertainment tonight, an opening slot for night ranger, a tour of military bases in guam, japan and korea and an appearance on the show cagney and lacey, but they still couldn’t get a recording deal. That wouldn’t happen for another several years. They would go through some more lineup changes with the band literally having a revolving door of members with the exception of Keunhamind and Gardner,. before cementing their classic lineup in 1986.
It was in 1981 drummer Roxxi Petrucci and her sister started a band called Maadam X in Detroit. The sisters were first enthralled by hard rock and metal thanks to their older brother who brought home led zeppeli nand black sabbath records in addition to another band Petrucci highlighted, the band Fanny which was an all girls group. Fun Fact: Sebastian Bach would end up fronting Maadam X for a period of time. Roxxi was A former classical clarinetist before picking up the drums. She was soon splitting her time between symphony halls in the morning and afternoon and rock clubs in the night throwing on her leather clothes and

Breaking news this morning as Crazy Town, the 2000’s era group who you might remember for the massive hit Butterfly announced that their frontman shifty shellshock whose real name is Seth Binzer, died at his home on Monday. He was 49.
Crazy Town was best known for its 2000 hit song "Butterfly," which peaked No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. The song would sample one time tour mates and close friends of the group Red Hot Chili Peppers 1989 song Pretty Little Ditty from mothers milk. The song would also top the charts in 7 other countries. Crazy Town’s debut album, “The Gift of Game,” sold more than 1.5 million copies. In a strange twist the group claimed they never wanted to release butterfly as the lead single
Guitarist Kraig "Squirrel" Tyler would explain to an interviewer: "We knew all along we didn't want to release 'Butterfly' first because we didn't want to be known as the band that does 'Butterfly'. We are looking at this like we want to have a career. That isn't who we are".[3]
The critical reception to butterfly was mixed. VH1 named it the the 34th "Most Awesomely Bad Song Ever" by VH1. but spin labelled it as the 13th best nu-metal song.
Shellshock for his part struggled with addiction throughout his music career. The singer appeared on the reality TV shows "Celebrity Rehab" for two seasons and "Sober House" for another two. He would credit Anthony Kedisi, frontman of the CHili Peppers of helping him with him get sober recalling to rolling stone “Anthony found me and took me to lunch — where I tried to borrow money from him so I could get high. I didn’t finish my rampage for a couple of days, but he showed me that I had people who were worried and cared about me. Anthony’s this angel who appeared in my life.”
Crazy Town would break up in 2003 after their sop****re effort, “Darkhouse,” was a commercial failure. They would eventually reunite, releasing their latest album 2015’s The Brimstone Sluggers. Many would brand the band as one hit wonders as none of their releases lived up to “Butterfly”. Just last year, pop-rock singer Gayle interpolated the song for her contribution to the Barbie soundtrack, “butterflies.” No additional details regarding the circumstances of his death have been revealed.

He’s been referred to as the man keeping rock alive or the man who saved rock n’ roll - and that is a direct quote from Eddie Trunk about himself. I’m only joking. I do like listening to Eddie Trunk whenever I come across his show or hear clips on youtube, but not everyone counts themselves a fan of the radio host. In today’s video let’s take a look at Eddie I Know Everybody in that band trunk’s rockstars he’d feuded with.
Just for some background on Trunk it was in the mid 80’s he started working for Megaforce records who had both metallica and anthrax on their roster. It was at the age of 25 he was the vice president of the company and he even got executive producer credits on a fe wband’s records including Anthrax, Raven, Overkill and Ace Frehley. It was throughout the 80’s and the 90’s he got into radio broadcasting and you might remember him from VH1 with that metal show as well. He’s still broadcasting today being heard on Sirius XM. Let’s get to the feuds.
LIzzy Borden
Lizzy borden would speak with Mark Morton at Heavy metal examiner and he would take a shot at Eddie Trunk. When asked why he never appeared on that metal show he would reveal “he’s actually one of those folks who doesn’t like us (referring to Trunk). He doesn’t get it, doesn’t understand it and just doesn’t want to know.” He’d go on to reveal playing rocklohoma and and how they were supposed to do an interview with Trunk, but he never showed up. Trunk was also supposed to see the band’s show with him adding “he only saw the last 20 seconds of it and then he went on his radio show and slammed us. And he slammed us on his tv show too.”” Borden would add that Trunk only covers stuff he’s interested in adding ‘he’s probably getting caught up in his own fame too.”
Trunk would end up responding to the interview claiming he’s never met Lizzy borden and how he’s supported bands he was not personally into of and how he’s into countless bands he doesn’t play, because his audience doesn’t care. As for rocklahoma, Trunk would claim he doesn’t interview bands so low on the bill and his contract only calls for him to interview the closing three bands each day. He’d also add he’s in fact played lizzy borden on his radio show adding a parting shot “Considering the lack of interest in the guys career after decades, i’ m not surprised he’s bitter.” ouch.
Static X -
Tony Campos and Edsel Dope would speak to the Battleline podcast and the topic of bands using pre-recorded tapes. Campos would tell the podcast “I don’t understand why anyone listens to that guy. He’s not a musician. He has no experience performing live, why listen to his opinion. Dope meanwhile would cite efficiency claiming bands from the 70’s who used to bring on lots of backup singers and musicians to round out their live shows - don’t need to do that anymore because of technological improvements. Also, it comes down to economics too - they can’t house and feed 26 people on tour.
Steel Panther - Eddie Trunk - Radio host Eddie “I know everybody and hung out with them’ trunk has long expressed his distaste for the band Steel Panther. It was during his show he was asked to name one band he never thought would make it and he singled out steel panther saying “It amazes me – the amount of shows and attention… They’ve gotten huge in England, but in America, they’re still basically a House of Blues-level band, but it always amazed me how popular Steel Panther got from what they started out as, which was a band called Metal School.
“They’re still a parody, a spoof, on ’80s rock. I think there’s a segment of their fanbase that isn’t even in on the joke, that is younger.
It was a year earlier he was a little more critical saying “I have nothing personal against anybody in the band. They are good people, they are good players and all that. But it’s a spoof. It’s an act. It’s mocking 80’s hard rock….“My time and energy are going to be invested into the bands from that era, that are still trying to make new, c

Eve 6
Best known for the song inside out or as a lot of people refer to it as ‘the heart in a blender song’ Eve 6 were an anomaly nabbing a major recording contract when they were in their junior year of high school. But a changing music industry, burnout, and substance abuse led to the band calling it quits within half a decade. But they soon came back with one of the members becoming the unofficial king of twitter and I’m not kidding you guys, interviewing a presidential assassin. Today, let’s talk about the rise, fall and rise again of Eve 6.
Eve 6 would be formed in 1995 in La Crescenta, California in Orange County. Eve 6’s origins begin with frontman and bassist/ Max Collins, guitarist Jon Siebels (sea-bulls) and drummer Nick Meyers. The band took shape in Max’s freshman year at Crescenta Valley high school when he met guitarist Jon Siebels in Physical Education class.
Their influences included punk rock like Jawbreaker, pop punk like Green Day, all the way to tom petty, elvis costello, Pixies, CCR,and Built to Spill. The band first went by the moniker Yakoo and then Eleventeen, which was the name they had when they got signed. the name Eve 6 came just before they put out their debut record.. Eve 6 was inspired by an episode of the popular sci-fi show “The X-Files,” For the members it became a ritual to watch the x-files when they were in the studio taking a break.
With collins telling the world herald “remember the cloning episode?Eve 6 was on the plaque above a door to a padded cell that held the psycho dude.””
Getting back to their early days. The trio made the decision not to tour and not play popular LA clubs instead opting for coffee shops and backyard parties with Siebels telling an interviewer ““We kind of stayed away from doing the clubs a whole lot because a lot of the Hollywood clubs have the whole selling-tickets-to-play thing…. That’s just like the worst, to feel like you’re handing over money to play somewhere,”. “We’d much rather just pack out a coffeehouse and have a great time than to have the high stress of selling tickets.”
Some of eve 6’s early gigs saw them play at Eagle Coffee Pub, the natural fudge company, and cobalt cafe. It was at a show at cobalt cafe.the trio caught the attention of an A&R women who worked for an orange county punk label named Dr. Dream Records. She met the band and really liked their set and invited themto meet the label reps. Collins would remark in one interview that the label was where members of seminal orange county punk bands went to die -. But the members being 16-17 years old and being offered a label deal couldn’t pass up the opportunity, so they signed with them.
Eve 6 began recording with producer Steve Soto of the Adolescents. During the tracking of the drums, the label coordinated an interview with a syndicated college radio program called radio asylum. A women named Jennifer Harold interviewed the band and they did about 4-5 songs on the program. Harold really liked the group. Harold had been working with then-RCA act One Thousand Mona Lisas and knew label A&R man Brian Malouf. She sent a live tape of Eve 6 to Malouf, who liked what he heard. Eve 6 soon played a showcase for a few RCA reps with collins admitting the performance was terrible - recounting how there then drummer dropped his drumsticks during the showcase. Regardless the band signed a deal to RCA when they were in their freshman year in high school.. That A&R man Brian Malouf who signed them would tell an interviewer “they were very influenced by Green Day and the muffs It was a little noisy punk rock band. But you don’t write your best or most original songs at age 15. I thought if they were given some time to simmer and mature, they could write some very timely material in a few years.” This was around 1996.
The trio’s RCA deal did come with a few stipulations - one was that the members had to finish high school before they were

Today, we're diving into one of the most infamous moments in rock history - the time Prince opened for The Rolling Stones, and it went horribly wrong. Buckle up, because this story has it all - rock legends, an up-and-coming superstar, and a crowd that just wasn't having it."
Opening for another artist was nothing new for prince. He had opened for Rick James a year earlier on his Fire It Up Tour.
James recalled seeing Prince for the first time “My manager brought some tapes over and said, ‘Well, there’s this kid who’s got this record, ‘I Want to Be Your Lover,’ and I loved that record. And I saw some videos of him, and he was cool. I felt that he resembled us a lot,” But the two feuded on the road after Prince blew James off stage with James claiming prince was also ripping off his moves. So when it came to the shows opening for the Stones Prince wanted to show up the headliner.
Let's set the scene. It's October 9, 1981, and Prince isn't the megastar we know today. He's just a quirky upstart with one falsetto-sung pop-funk hit under his belt - 'I Wanna Be Your Lover'. This is before 'he became a megasuperstar with hits like 1999,' before 'Purple Rain,' before 'Little Red Corvette.' But he soon caught the ear of Mick Jagger who saw his genius after seeinghim perform at the Ritz in New York City during his Dirty Mind tour.
The Stones Frontman remarked about Prince "Prince was a great artist. He broke a lot of musical modes and invented a lot of styles."
In 1981 the Stones were touring behind their album Tattoo On You. The tour was set to open with two shows at memorial stadium in Los Angeles on October 9 and 11th. An audience of 95,000 people were expected to attend each show. Prince was originally booked to open even more shows for The Stones, including two shows at The Silverdome in Detroit. Having Prince open for the Stones didn’t seem like a bad idea. Black artists including Tina Turner, Stevie Woner and Billy Preston had all opened for the Stones
Prince Keyboardist LisA Coleman remembered the feeling in the run up to the show in the book Prince the Man and HIs Music We were so excited, we’d rehearsed our little booties off, our funky black asses. This is it, we’re gonna make the big time.
Prince opened the show, followed by George Thorogood and J Geils band before the Stones took to the stage in the later part of the day. The first day was unseasonably hot and some members of the audience got there in the morning and had to listen to three support acts before the Stones came on.
"Picture this: It's a sunny afternoon, and Prince struts out on stage in his typical attire - a trench coat and bikini briefs. Yeah, you heard that right. Remember, this is 1981, and Prince's provocative style wasn't yet mainstream." "Now, Prince wasn't completely oblivious to his audience. He tried to bridge the gap by playing some of his rockier material. But it didn't matter. The crowd's reaction was immediate and hostile."
Drummer Bobby Z. recalled how the first moments of the show went in the book A Soldier in Prince’s Revolution
So concert promoter Bill Graham comes out and says, “All right, we’ve got a new act for you today.” Boo. Everybody wants the Stones
We start out with I think “Uptown” and they hear us singing falsetto. They’re not interested, they’re not willing, they’re certainly not tolerant. You’ve got three brothers up there. You’ve got weird-looking white people in the back. It’s New Age weird punky funk rock—all the stuff they don’t want to know about or be interested in. They just want the blues or rock and roll. They don’t want to listen to anything new—let alone from the guy who looks like a chick but he’s not a chick and the chicks like him.
The crowd shouted racist and ****phobic comments towards Prince and his band in addition to tossing objects like bottles, cans and fried chicken on stage.
Prince bassist Brown Mark who played with Prince for the first time that night recalled: "Next thing I noticed was food starting to fly through the air like a dark thundercloud. Imagine 94,000 people throwing food at each other; it was the craziest thing I had ever seen in my life. I got hit in the shoulder with a bag of fried chicken; then my guitar got knocked out of tune by a large

Following two massive records, their commercial breakthrough Slippery When Wet (1986) and the highly anticipated follow-up New Jersey (1988), the band members were sick of each other and burnt out. Jon admitted to the New York Daily News that the band should’ve had a bigger break between Slippery When Wet and New Jersey. From 1983 to 1990, the band was largely living out of a suitcase, and some members went through divorces. They took some time off. During their time off, Jon recorded a solo record as did Ritchie Sambora.T here was always tension between Jon and Richie, not because they didn’t like each other, but due to competition between the two. Their manager at the time Doc McGhee remarked in Thank You and Good Night that it was a matter of proving how much each was worth.
Emilio Estevez had a new movie coming out Young Guns II in 1990 and approached Bon Jovi about using the song "Wanted Dead or Alive." The song had frequently been played on set in 1988 for the first movie. Instead, Jon suggested writing a song specifically for the movie called "Blaze of Glory." Jon also admitted in the Thank You and Good Night documentary that he wanted to prove to people that he didn’t need his bon jovi bandmates to have a successful hit. “Young Guns II” star Kiefer Sutherland said, “When Jon (Bon Jovi) joined the team for Young Guns 2, we were all eating hamburgers in a diner and Jon was scribbling on this napkin for, say, six minutes. He declared he’d written ‘Blaze of Glory’, which of course then went through the roof in the States. He later gave Emilio Estevez the napkin. We were munching burgers while he wrote a No. 1 song… Made us feel stupid.”Jon even made a cameo in the film.Bon Jovi’s solo album Blaze of Glory went to number 3 on the album charts with the title track hitting number 1 on the hot 100 chart. The question a lot of fans had was, what was the status of Bon Jovi? Even the members of the band weren’t sure of the status of the group. But
Bon Jovi reassembled in January of 1992.
It was a new beginning for the band as the group fired their accountants, managers, and agents. Their then manager Doc McGhee admitted in the band’s Thank You Goodnight documentary that around the time of "Blaze of Glory," he could sense a shift in Jon’s needs. One point of contention was Jon’s desire to get into acting and doing more movie soundtracks, something he disagreed with, telling him to stick with the band.. Instead of trying to work things out, McGhee let the band go, something he believes was a mistake.
Jon soon started Bon Jovi Management with the idea of protecting the band first. Their road manager, ran the whole thing. It also proved advantageous because the band didn’t have to pay out huge commissions to a manager, Jon told the LA Times: "The days of the big machine are over. The machine was getting too big and unnecessary. Things had to get more simple. It’s silly to act like this big superstar with tons of people working for you. I was simplifying my life in other ways, so I figured to do it on the business side too."
The band next needed to come back together and feel like one again - setting aside those old rivalries and hostilities. The band rented a house in the Virgin Islands—St. Thomas. No girlfriends or wives, it was just the band. Jon wanted to hire a psychotherapist who did corporate therapy—a guy named Lou. The idea was to have an intermediary with nothing to gain, unlike a manager, for everyone to talk openly in a safe place. It took some convincing, but eventually the rest of the band signed onto the idea. Making Keep the Faith was a more relaxed process with the band going back to their roots, spending time writing in Bon Jovi's basement. Later, they headed to Vancouver to work with Bob Rock, who had engineered and mixed their earlier albums Slippery When Wet and New Jersey. Rock remarked to an interviewer: The band was ready to push themselves and wanted to prove they were more than a pop-metal act. This time around focusing on creating a big, modern rock sound." It resulted in their first album in 4 years - keep the faith.

Throughout the 90’s Megadeth inched further and further away from it’s trash metal roots with each subsequent release. None was a bigger shock to longtime fans than 1999’s Risk, which as the name suggested was a huge gamble for the band. In today’s video, let’s talk about the album, the fan reaction and how it also proved to be a sonic farewell to one of the band’s most beloved members.
Megadeth was formed in 1983 by guitarist and vocalist Dave Mustaine after he was famously fired from Metallica. Fueled by a desire to outdo his former bandmates, Mustaine teamed up with bassist David Ellefson, and together they set out to create some of the most intense and technically proficient thrash metal the world had ever heard."
"Their debut album, 'Killing Is My Business... and Business Is Good!' was released in 1985 and quickly established Megadeth as a force to be reckoned with in the metal scene. Subsequent albums like 'Peace Sells... but Who's Buying?' and 'Rust in Peace' cemented their status as thrash metal legends." Dave remarked about his mission with his new band
"After getting fired from Metallica, all I remember is that I wanted blood. Theirs. I wanted to be faster and heavier than them."
"As the 1990s progressed, Megadeth began to experiment with their sound. Albums like 'Countdown to Extinction' and 'Youthanasia' and Cyrptic Writings saw the band incorporating more melody and mainstream appeal into their music. This shift in direction helped them achieve greater commercial success and reach a broader audience." I will say, despite all the changing musical trends in the 80’s and 90’s, megadeth seemed to come out largely unscathed. At the height of grunge, countdown to extinction proved to be there most successful record, peaking at number 2. It’s follow up youthensia went platinum and cryptic writings got close to that mark. Even bassist David Ellefson acknowledged “i think we were a band that never really got behind the trends.’
In fact, Cryptic Writings was the most embraced album by radio to date thanks to songs like Trust - love that drum intro, which topped the rock charts and three other songs from the record made it into the top twenty. Trust even earned the band a grammy nomination. For that album, band also teamed up with Chaos Comics to produce a comic book series that was called the cryptic writings of Megadeth -which adapted lyrics from the album into the comics. IT was a weird time if you were a megadeth fan because there mixed messages in terms of what to expect on their next album.
While touring after Cryptic Writings, Mustaine told interviewers that Cryptic writings songs like like "She-Wolf" and "Vortex" had reinvigorated his love of Iron Maiden and Motörhead. He signalledi n those interviews he wanted to take megadeth’s next album in a heavier direction - claiming the next album would be ½ peace sells and ½ cryptic writings.
But as the promo cycle for their follow up to Cryptic Writings started ramping up, It became apparent that their follow up album was about writing songs that were going to appeal to the masses. The VP of marketing at capitol records rob gordan remarked to billboard before Risk’s release “before the last record, we’d maybe had one track at rock radio and it would be over. With this record (Risk) like the last one I think we’ll have four plus again.” Even in the making of risk video on megadeth’s youtube channel the band admitted to listening to a lot of 70’s disco and fleetwood mac for inspiration. Couple this with the fact that by the late 90’s the musical landscape was changing, and Megadeth faced pressure to adapt to the evolving tastes of rock and metal fans."
"In 1999, Megadeth released their eighth studio album, 'Risk.' The album marked a significant departure, embracing an even more radio-friendly, hard rock sound while also featuring elements of electronica. . The title 'Risk' was a nod to the band's willingness to take a gamble with their musical direction."
"Interestingly, the idea to take more chances with their songwriting came from several unexpected places. Mustaine revealed in an interview with uDiscover Music, it was actually Metallica's Lars Ulrich who suggested the approach.

Whenever i listen to terrestrial radio where I live few Canadian few bands seem to get as much play as Our Lady Peace. The only band I feel like I hear more is The Tragically Hip.Today, let’s talk about the how the band got so popular - thanks in large part to their first two records.
I was in grade 6 living in a small town Alberta. A place called Edson - halfway between Edmonton and Jasper. I spent most of my youth there. That year we got a Tim Hortons, well it wasn’t just any tim hortons it was a tim hortons and wendy’s, we got on the map that year. One day a girl came in my class and said her Mom who was working at the tim hortons served the members at Our Lady Peace who came through town on their tour bus. This was when they were touring on their massive record Clumsy - Superman’s dead was inescapable. Well the kids in our class were super impressed.
Our Lady Peace was born out of a chance meeting between guitarist Mike Turner and vocalist Raine Maida in 1992. Turner is seven years senior to Maida. Thanks to a now weekly toronto entertainment magazine called Now.. Turner posted an ad looking for a singer.. Maida responded to that ad. They soon met and found they had a shared musical vision.
\
Turner spent his teenage years in England before moving to Canada to do schooling at the university of western ontario where got an english degree.. He hlightlighted.Sex Pistols as one of his biggest influences Before forming out lady peace Turner worked in a machine shop and originally planned on doing biochemistry and genetics in university but he credited ayn rand’s book fountainhead as convincing him to really pursue his dreams of music.
Maida for his part studied criminology at the University of Toronto.Maida was influenced by stevie wonder, joy division, u2,, radiohead, blur, otis redding, tori amos, Maida told muchmusic his favourite vocalists were women - loving the passion a women could sing with. In fact a lot of press coverage focused on maida’s falsetto.
The duo quickly realized their shared musical vision and began recruiting other members to complete the lineup with their original rhythm section dropping out. Apparently Maida and Turner felt like they were more committed than their original bassist and drummer. They put another ad in the magazine and were soon joined by bassist Chris Eacrett and drummer Jeremy Taggart, solidifying the band's early lineup. Taggart, the youngest of the group was only 18 at the time finishing high school by correspondance with turner remarking to the drumme when they first met “jeez, does your mother know your here.” but once they started jamming that awkwardness was gone.
I do want to say that entertainment magazine Now wasn’t very kind to our lady peace when they got big with guitarist mike turner recalling “they’re the only magazine in the country that pretty much that gave us less than favourable reviews.”
”The name "Our Lady Peace" was inspired by a 1943 poem by Mark Van Doren, reflecting the band's deep, philosophical approach to music with Maeda telling the morning call “the poem is pretty dark, very interpretive. But it’s not about being heavy handed at all, but being open to suggestion.””
In their formative years, OLP was labed as being post-grunge or alternative rock drawing frequent comparisons to Nirvana, Pearl Jam, The Smashing Pumpkins and Soundgarden in addition to led zeppelin. I do want to point out that in a lot of interviews for the band’s first two albums the band almost put down these groups citing their dark outlook in their lyrics without offering much in the way of hope. The band’s lyrics were frequently labeld as being darkly optimistic.
Our Lady Peace managed to carve out a unique niche for themselves, thanks in large part to Maida's distinctive vocals and the band's penchant for introspective lyrics. Maida described the band’s sound as a melting pot and added that the fact the members didn’t know each other super well led to a lot more spontaneity in their music. The group band opted to not focus on live shows initially, choosing to writeinstead. .Maida and Turner attended a music industry seminar in Toronto where each of them shelled out about $135. IT was at this seminar they met produ

While I’ve talked about a lot of songs and records on my channel, it’s not very often I talk about "what if" stories: In this case were talking about Van Halen's second unreleased album with Gary Cherone. This album, has been shrouded in mystery and speculation, and it represents a fascinating chapter in the band's storied history. Despite the commercial and critical disappointment of Van Halen III, their first album with Cherone, the band intended on working on a follow-up album with the frontman. the only problem was that the wheels eventually came off the whole thing. Today, we'll explore the background, the music, and the legacy of this record.
Gary Cherone joined Van Halen during a turbulent time. The band parted ways with frontman Sammy Hagar by 1996., Sammy claimed he was fired, while the Van Halen brothers claim he left on his own. Eddie claimed the split was due to Hagar not wanting to tour and disputes over appearing on the soundtrack for the 1996 film Twister. Sammy was about to have a baby with his wife, while the Van Halen brothers were dealing with medical issues, Eddie needed hip surgery while his brother was dealing with neck problems. Sammy thought the band should take some time off, The Van Halen brothers should address their medical issues and regroup to work on their next album.
But Van Halen soon got a lucrative offer to record music for the soundtrack of the upcoming 1996 summer movie Twister. The offer esulted in the number 1 hit song Humans Being but it proved to be the final song to feature Hagar for this era of the band.. By June of 96 Hagar left the group. Apparently another source of contention a The compilation record The Best of Both Worlds, which featured tracks from the David Lee Roth and Sammy Hagar era of the band. Here’s what Sammy told Loudwire.
According to Eddie in 1998, Sammy didn’t want to be compared to David Lee Roth with Eddie telling the knight rider news service that some of the band’s fans thought their 1995 record balance was there first record adding “We have 12 and 14 year old fans who don’t know the history of the band. We actually did it for the fans as opposed to what he says for the money. He himself has two greatest hits out adding in the same interview that Hagar was asked to be a team player and refused.
The group recorded two new songs with David Lee Roth for their Best Of-Volume 1 compilation - Can’t Get This Stuff No More and Me Wise Magic. Excitement grew about a possible reunion with Roth with the band making an appearance with the frontman at the 1996 MTV Video Music Awards. MTV even started running welcome back spots, but Eddie later remarked the band was never planning on reuniting with David Lee Roth for a tour or new album and the press blew it out of proportion.
Behind the scenes, things were ugly between Dave and Eddie. The band talked in the press about the band focusing on eddie van halen’s hip surgery, while David th reportedly said “Tonight is expletive about me, not Eddie’s hip. All while this was happening Gary Cherone claimed he was already in the band. indicating that Roth may have been used to drum up interest in the band’s Best of -Volume 1 release. Cherone told Rolling Stone in 2012 s. I remember one morning getting up to go to the studio and no one told me all this press was interviewing the Van Halen guys because of the VMAs and all this stuff. They told me, “Gary, no one knows you’re in the band.” I remember bumping into a photographer from Japan and he knew me from Extreme. He goes, “What are you doing here?” I go, “Nothing.”
So how did Cherone end up in Van Halen to begin with. His band Extreme, who were best known for the song More Than Words had disbanded earlier in the year. In the summer of 1996 Cherone received a surprising call from his manager Ray Daniels to audition for Van Halen. It turned out he shared the same manager as Van Halen.
Cherone was shocked by the offer, but thought nothing would come of it, except for a good story to tell to people. He recalled to rolling stone landing in LA remembering “I got off the plane in the afternoon and I remember Mike Anthony came out," he recalled. "I’d

WASP outraged parents, religious groups and received death and bomb threats in the process. At the same time, they delighted people who witnessed their stage spectacles. Led by imposing frontman Blackie Lawless who stands at 6feet 4” tall, the group’s 80’s era albums represented a commercial high water mark for the group. In today’s video, let’s talk about the unusual rise of WASP.
The beginning of the WASP’s history starts with Blackie Lawless who was born Steven Edward Duren in Florida. He was raised in Staten Island, and in his younger years he befriended future kiss guitarist ace frehley. Duren was brought up in a fundamentalist baptist household telling USA Today “My father was a Sunday school superintendent, my grandfather was the head deacon of the church, and my grandfather was a preacher. When the doors opened, I was there. I was "indoctrinated". You're told what to think. I was in the church freely until the age of 18, and when I left the church I REALLY left. I went and practiced the occult for three years. At the end of that time, I discovered that was just another organized religion. In the same interview with USA today he had jewish ancestry..
As for how he got the name Blackie Lawless ,he’d get the name, at least the first part at the age of 13. He’d tell Eddie I know everybody in that band trunk that his mother worked for the USo during world war 2 and she was a professional dancer. She once went to a service club and a guy one night went up to one of the sailors, took a switchblade and stabbed the guy. He remarked ""He took a switchblade and he stuck it in the guy in his stomach and walked around the guy with the blade in him, so he did a circle around his body. And I heard that story, and it left a lasting impression," he explains. "So with the color of the hair and all, it just stuck. It's been with me ever since." As for the name Lawless there was a player for the football team the Dallas Cowboys who was an all-pro center named Burton Lawless. He loved that the jersey of the guy said lawless on it.”
Lawless uncle was late Major League Baseball pitcher Ryne Duren who played for a variety of teams including the new york yankees. Lawless at one point even considered a career in baseball thanks to having a good throwing arm. In the book nothin but a good time photographer Don Adkins recalled how Lawless told him he had a 99mph fastball and got drafted to play for the farm team of the Detroit Tigers. But by the mid 70’s he got an offer to join the group the new york dolls and left baseball. However in an interview with Loudersound, Lawless would clarify it was actually a stint with the cincinnati reds farm team. In a separate interview with rough edge magazine lawless claimed he still suffers from a baseball injury, a torn tendon in his elbow.
It wasn’t just baseball that caught lawless attention as he told the Edmonton Journal that had he not been a musician he might have went into advertising as he was always fascinated by marketoing. Meanwhile he’d tell a dayton ohio paper that in his mind the three best jobs in the world were being presidents of the United States, being boxing heavyweight champion and being a rock n’ roll musician. He’d meet boxer Mohammed Ali, crediting the athlete with inspiring his onstage footwork.
Lawless had a short stint in the iconic glam band, New York Dolls joining the group briefly in 1975 after guitarist Johnny Thunders left the group mid-tour. The Dolls taught Lawless how not to be famous remarking to the journal “They were the only band I know of, that could sit at an airport terminal and miss 5 planes in a row. One member was drinking 13 quarts of liquor a day and well let’s just say dolls were five guys trying to be jim morrison and succeeding. A lot of his early media interviews placed a large emphasis of his time in the new york dolls, but for Lawless the best thing that came out of the stint, was that it got him from the East Coast to LA.
Lawless formed the group Sister In 1976, which also featured future W.A.S.P. guitarist Randy Piper. Now I wanna say that the biography that WASP’s future label C

Founded in 1973 by guitar prodigy Randy Rhoads and his friend bassist kelly Garni, Quiet Riot was a band who struggled to get noticed. Record labels continually passed on the band associating their sound with dinosaur rock, but when the group was offered their first big break, it came with conditions they weren’t entirely happy about. So much so, they tried to sabotage it. Instead, it resulted in the band making music history and paving the way for other similar sounding bands to achieve success.. Today, let’s explore the dramatic rise and steep decline of Quiet Riot in just a few short years.
The history of Quiet Riot begins with guitarist Randy Rhoads and bassist Kevin Garni. The duo enlisted vocalist Kevin Dubrow in 1973 and formed a band named Mach 1 before changing their name to Little Women. Garni admitted in an interview with Metal Voice that himself and Rhoads were not really fans of Dubrow, but the frontman was very insistent and he was driven like them, so they decided to give it a shot. Dubrow by this point didn’t have a ton of experience, just singing in garage bands. He had seen the beatles in 1964 on th ed sullivan show and thats what kick started his interest in music followed by seeing rod stewart in the 70’s. As for Dubrow, he wasn’t very taken with Rhoads when he first met him telling the star tribune.
“I mean this guy was weird. I swear he looked like a girl with that long hair down to his waist. He had this incredibly long thumbnail on his left hand too. I didn’t know what to make of this guy. But once Rhoads started playing, Dubrow was stunned.
As for Garni and Rhoads not liking him, Dubrow admitted “Rhoads only wanted me to take up time between guitar solos.” Dubrow also added the pair wanted someone who was good with chicks, someone who wasn’t a pain in the ass and someone who wasn’t ugly. IT wasn’t uncommon for Dubrow to compare his appearance to Rod Stewart in interviews. They rounded out their lineup with drummer Drew Forstyhe and the band soon rebranded themselves Quiet Riot by 1975. This lineup of the band is sometimes referred to as Quiet Riot 1.
As for where the name Quiet Riot came from Dubrow claimed to the chicago tribune that musician Rick Parfitt from the british group status quo suggested the name Quiet Riot took inspiration from 60’s era british groups like humble pie, the who, the faces, and the beatles.
It wasn’t long before Quiet Riot became one of the hottest bands in LA scene alongside Van Haen bythe late 70’s, but record labels wouldn’t bite. Van Halen, however got a deal with Dubrow admitting they deserved it more, telling the record newspaper “they had a better rhythm section. Our original drummer was lousy.” He added that ‘we were so desperate to get a deal we were trying to adapt our sound towards what we thought record companies were looking for. Consequently it got to the point that we didn’t know what we were doing.
And record labels didn’t reject the Quiet Riot once, but several times. However,. Quiet Riot’s manager got the band a deal with Sony who who released the group’s first two records in Japan. - their self titled 1977 record and Quiet Riot 2 in the subsequent year. Dubrow shed some light on why they exclusively released their records n japan telling an interviewer “A lot of it has to do with image. The japanese people are really into the theatrical type of thing. We had a really pretty boy look in those days. The band was a lot younger and the japanese were very into that sort of thing.” You’er maybe wondering, why not just release the records in the US s well. Well, Sony, felt Van Halen was the official LA band. Despite this, the band did some exposure in LA. They were sometimes heard on radio program Rodney on the ROQ [Bingenheimer’s show on L.A. radio station KROQ] alongside punk bands like the Adolescents or the Circle Jerks or whatever. Rodney played “Slick Black Cadillac from their second record.
To support their first two albums, Quiet Riot toured with journey and black oak arkansas. Dubrow in 1983 looked back negatively on both albums telling an interviewer “Those albums were crap, Back then we were playing this hard crunching music in pers
Beyond all honor and a well overdue moment for Power Mornings’ show host Letty, the incredible Lauren London stopped by the Power 106 studios to speak about her latest venture with the Puma LA Love Story” collection drop.
London explains that the newest collection’s essence was captured over the past two and a half years, with the challenges and effects of the 2020 pandemic all having a creative impact on the pieces that are now available today. The Puma collection is a rendering of not only the deep connection Lauren London has to her hometown but also highlights the deep love and connection she had with the late Nipsey Hussle. As certain pieces capture Nip’s energy, whether that be a lyric imprinted on a pullover or the energy felt from the Los Angeles history and vibe, Lauren explains to Letty how Hussle is woven throughout the entire collection.
While Lauren London begins to step back into her acting career, the mother of two is known to ride for her city with a West Coast curated playlist, which includes the late Nate Dogg, and she also shares her love for LA with her kids through her parenting and spiritual teachings.
Lauren London goes on to share who fills her cup and who helps support her, what featured on her book list, and what it was like collating with Hype Williams on the “LA Love Story” Puma Collection.

la-da-da-da-da
la-da-da-da, da-da-da
if i told you how much i think about her
you'd think i was in love
and if you knew how much i looked at her pictures
you would think we're best friends
'cause i know her star sign, i know her blood type
i've seen every movie she's been in, and, oh god, she's beautiful and i know you loved her, and i know i'm butthurt
but i can't help it, no i can't help it
i'm so obsessed with your ex (uh-huh)
i know she's been asleep on my side of your bed, and i can feel it
i'm starin' at her like i wanna get hurt
and i remember every detail you have evеr told me, so be careful,
baby i'm so obsеssed with your ex (ah)
yeah, i'm so obsessed with your ex (ah)
la-da-da-da, da-da-da
she's got those lips, she's got those hips the life of every fuckin' party
she's talented, she's good with kids
she even speaks kindly about me (ah-ah)
and i know you love me, and i know it's crazy
but every time you call my name, i think you mistake me for her
you both have moved on, you don't even talk
but i can't help it, i got issues, i can't help it, baby
i'm so obsessed with your ex
i know she's been asleep on my side of your bed, and i can feel it
i'm starin' at her like i wanna get hurt
and i remember every detail you have ever told me,
so be careful, baby
i'm so obsessed with your ex (ah)
yeah, i'm so obsessed with your ex (ah)
is she friends with your friends? is she good in bed?
do you think about her? no i'm fine, it doesn't matter, tell me
is she easy-going? never controlling?
well-traveled? well-read? oh god, she makes me so upset
i'm so obsessed with your ex (ah)
she's been asleep on my side of your bed (ah, woah)
