The 90’s saw several popular periods of rock music, hair metal was on it’s last feet at the beginning of the decade, with grunge taking over in the early to mid 90’s. That transitioned into post-grunge and pop rock and then nu-metal. Against the backdrop of rock music during the decade was hip hop and straight pop music. IT was rare that an artist who was dominant in one genre would try to reinvent themselves in another genre, but that’s what rapper Vanilla Ice tried to do.

Music wasn’t always on the first choice of a career for rapper Vanilla Ice who was born Robert Matthew Van Winkle in Dallas, Texas in 1967. In his teenage years he was a successful motocross racer winning several championships, but a broken ankle at age 17 prematurely ended his career. He soon turned his attention to music - a fan of hip hop and dancing. Ice would tell the LA Times he danced to James Brown records and lip-synced to Elvis Presley as a youngster. But he soon found his calling in hip hop and started dancing with friends at local malls, He would tell the LA Times
“I remember being alone a lot as a kid because I went to so many different schools,” “I would always be the new jack and everybody’s eyes would be on me, so I eventually decided to give them something to look at. I’d fix my hair and wear things that made me stand out. And I got into the rapping and the break-dancing and beat-boxing.”

He would soon adopt the stage name Vanilla MC. it would be an appearance at Dallas disco called City Lights that changed rappers life. owned by Tommy Quon who was managing a few acts.

Quon would witness Vanilla MC at his club taking part in a talent contest and was so blown away he signed the rapper to a contract the following day. Quon suggested he change his name to Vanilla Ice and started to lineup concerts that would see him open for various rap acts including Public Enemy. But much to Quon’s chagrin he was unsuccessful in getting record labels to pay attention. A white rapper wasn’t exactly on their list of sought after acts. Still believing in his talent Quon forked the money to release Vanilla Ice’s debut album Hooked on his own independent label and got a distribution deal through Ichiban records. They would release a single a cover Wild Cherry’s play that funky music with ice ice baby as the b-side. The song eventually started getting airplay thanks to a DJ in Georgia to played ice ice baby instead of the cover and it spread like wildfire from there. Quon soon spent $8,000 to record a video for the track Ice Ice Baby only increasing the rapper’s popularity..

SBK records took notice and signed the rapper. They re-released Hooked with a new name “To The Extreme” and he soon started opening for MC Hammer. It was a tour that saw tension between the rappers with Vanilla Ice knocking MC Hammer from the number 1 spot on the billboard charts
Quon would tell the LA Times about the feud with MC Hammer. “By the end, we were selling as many T-shirts as Hammer at the shows and I think that bothered them. They didn’t want to acknowledge what was happening.”
Ice Ice Baby would go on to become the first number one hip hop single in history to top the billboard hot 100 charts and To The Extreme became a global phenomenon selling over 15,000,000 worldwide and spending four months at the number 1 spot on the billboard album charts. He soon got his own movie Cool As Ice, and provided the lead single for the Teenage mutant Ninja turtles 2 movie and even dated Madonna. Add to that endorsement deals for nike and pepsi. But despite his newfound success there was a growing backlash against him. A lot of critics and rappe

The event took place on Wednesday, August 25, 2021 at Nashville’s historic Ryman Auditorium and was livestreamed on Circle Network’s Facebook, Twitter and YouTube platforms. John W. Bowman, Jr., better known by his stage name DJ Kool is an American rapper who, in the late 1990s, produced several popular rap singles. Born in 1959

in Washington, D.C., his influence from his years of working the go-go and rap circuits became apparent in his music. During the early- to mid-1980s, Kool

worked as a warm-up DJ for Rare Essence, until he was picked up by CLR Records.

In 1996, he recorded his most successful track, "Let Me Clear My Throat," which was released on American Recordings. The track peaked at #8 in the UK Singles

Chart in March 1997. The song prominently featured a sample of "The 900 Number" by DJ Mark the 45 King, (that song featured a sample from Marva Whitney's

"Unwind Yourself", repeated over a breakbeat for six minutes). The song also began by sampling "Hollywood Swinging" by Kool and the Gang. The song is a

recognizable dance floor-filler, and the track remains popular to this day. DJ Kool was featured on Mýa's 2006 single "Ayo!" from her 2008 album Liberation.

He was also featured on two tracks on Will Smith's 2005 album Lost and Found.

"This album is like being trapped in a tiny room with an unforgiving monster," says Capra guitarist Tyler Harper, and after being exposed to In Transmission, the listener cannot help but agree with him. The debut full-length from the Lafayette, Louisiana quartet, it is comprised of their contorted and unique take on metal, punk and hardcore, and it makes for thrilling listening from start to finish. "We've all been grinding in various local projects for decades, so in a lot of ways there's this sense of passionate frustration and conflict that comes from us pushing on, despite numerous setbacks, to finally have this record that we've all unknowingly been working towards. I think that comes through in the hard-hitting aggressive riffs and the relatable and impactful lyrics."

Tyler Harper (guitar) comments: "We are so honored to have worked with Candace Puopolo on this track. I grew up listening to Walls of Jericho and they were always a major influence on my music. To have a legend involved with what we're doing is such a rad feeling."

Tracking in Estuary Recording Studios in Austin, Texas, with Andrew Hernandez, Errors was mixed by Taylor Young and mastered by Brad Boatright, the latter two having worked on In Transmission (2021). Guitarist Tyler Harper comments, "I knew that I wanted it to pick up where the first album left off, but that it needed to have an entirely new attitude. If you listen to the last song from 'In Transmission' into the first song on 'Errors', it's a continuation. From there the album steers off into a direction that still feels similar but is new." Coming primarily from a hardcore background, giving listeners a sense of nostalgia for the sounds of the late 90's and early 2000's hardcore and punk scenes, but also incorporating elements of metal that complement the overall tone, everything the band does on Errors resonates with emotion; nothing is forced.

For collaborations, Capra recruited Walls Of Jericho vocalist Candace Puopolo to add her inimitable tones to "Human Commodity," while their friend Dustin Coffman from Glassing added backing vocals to a handful of tracks. Producer Hernandez also added some piano to "Nora," which closes out the album in a very different manner than anything they've previously explored. In a complete juxtaposition to the tracks that precede it, "Nora" is atmospheric and lithe, delicate and haunting. "I've always wanted to show a prettier/lighter side to this band where it's not always aggressive," says Harper. "Life is a rollercoaster and sometimes you need to throw some pretty piano into it." Since Capra's inception, Harper has always envisaged each album being a continuation of the last, and then breaking it off into its own journey, seeing "Nora" as "a fun way to start album three!"

Until then, the band will tour like the road warriors they have become, bringing Errors to North America and overseas (see below for all upcoming dates). Capra are eager to bond with fans new and old. Lotus explains that crucial connection: "Care about us because we care about you. And because we are a part of creating something our community can be proud of."

Capra is a metallic hardcore band roaring out of the depths of southern Louisiana. Formed by a pair of lifelong friends, Tyler Harper and Jeremy Randazzo, the bands dedication to their underground music community has led to rapid growth in the DIY scene. With a sound that reflects a deep web of hardcore influences with particular focus on acts like Every Time I Die and Converge, Capra are the band for their time and place. With high energy delivery and raging rock and roll hooks the group has been able to open for bands like Whores and The Number 12 Looks Like You as well as local heroes such as Eyehategod and Thou.

After a pair of EP’s with varying lineups, it was the addition of bassist Ben Paramore and explosive frontwoman Crow Lotus that brought the band to the next level. Crow’s vicious performances and on stage leadership turned the band into a veritable juggernaut. With the lineup locked in, Capra has since embarked on an aggressive campaign of live shows. A core focus for the band is, and always has been performing at benefits - in particular for causes surrounding drug abuse and domestic violence. They are proving that hardcore still has a heart and live by the belief that if you don’t care for your community your community will not care about you.

Now the band is excited to announce a partnership with Blacklight Media – a subsidiary of Metal Blade Records. With a new record in tow, Capra seek to push themselves over the top. Even since their humble beginnings, Tyler and Jeremy thought this band could be something special, now the whole band are working with their noses to the grindstone to ensure that this becomes the case. With their venom spitting frontwoman and hard rocking riffs it’s hard not to be enamored with the lightning charged assault of these Southern hardcore devotees.

Insightful Jamaican artist Omi (Omar Samuel Pasley) is bringing his breakthrough story to the U.S., with the compelling sheen of “Cheerleader,” leading the way. The smash dance song has notched more than 90 million Spotify streams, topping iTunes in 14 territories, including Germany, Australia, Sweden and others (Top 10 in nearly 30 other markets). Released in 2012, a cleverly understated remix by German DJ/Producer Felix Jaehn helped power the global momentum building around the infectious track.

“Cheerleader” originally took off in Hawaii, but Omi was getting a larger sense of the song’s ‘stickiness’ where ever he performed it live. “People just gravitated to it, always remarking how it was their favorite.” Felix Jaehn’s 2014 remix added to the combustible nature of the track,” but by deftly imbuing acoustic gestures into the mix – conga, piano, trumpet – embellishing its unornamented feel. “I loved the mix even before it took off,” says Omi. “So calm; And unusual for a remix, it made you want to listen to the words, too.”

Back in 2010 it came to light that the rock band queen was planning on doing a biopic about their career While Rami Malek would go on to play Freddie Mercury, it was originally envisioned that Sacha Baron Cohen would play Queen’s frontman. Years later Cohen revealed why he was no longer part of the film and why things fell apart. Cohen would even reveal that the original script seemed like a terrible idea. One member of Queen wouldn’t mince words about his disdain for the actor. That’s what were going to explore in today’s video.

In September of 2010 guitarist Brian May would let it slip that Queen was working on a biopic that actor Sacha Baron Cohen had been pushing for. May would tell the Hardtalk Show “We have Sacha Baron Cohen, which will probably be a shock to a lot of people, but he's been talking with us for a long time," It was initially reported that shooting would begin in 2011

More than a year later by April of 2011 shooting hadn’t begun yet. Brian May gave an update telling the Daily Record that they were still in discussions with Sacha baron cohen and that the actor told him personally he was born to play freddie. However, May would reveal that the rest of the Queen organization were reluctant to do a film fearing it could hurt the band’s legacy stating : "It is a project which is taking up a lot of time even though it is in the preparatory stages. It is a bit early to say how we will feel about it.
"Obviously, we go into it with a great amount of enthusiasm but also a certain amount of caution because Freddie's legacy is very precious and we have a great responsibility not to mess it up. It is more about Freddie than it is about us and that is deliberately so.
"We have resisted making this film for a long time and it is only now we feel we have the right people that we have given it the OK.
"Sacha does seem perfect. If it hadn't been for Sacha pushing and pushing, we wouldn't be at this point. We didn't choose him. He chose us."He is passionate about playing Freddie. For years, he's been saying he is going to do it."
Then a few years would go by and in July of 2013 it came out that Baron Cohen and Queen had parted ways on the project. It was reported at the time that creative differences led to the split with Baron Cohen wanting the biopic to be nitty gritty while Queen wanted the movie to be more restrained and sanitized. Brian May would claim that the parties parted ways on good terms, but in 2014 both Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor gave an update on the film. May would tell Classic Rock magazine "[I]n the end we felt that his presence in the movie would be very distracting," referring to the comedians over the antics with characters like borat and bruno going on to say "[W]e thought there has to be no distraction in the Freddie movie. You have to really suspend that disbelief – the man who plays Freddie, you have to really believe is Freddie. And we didn’t that could really happen with Sacha." May would say he was a fan of Baron, Cohen, but Roger Taylor was less diplomatic saying We didn’t want it to be a joke. We want people to be moved. 2 years later the actor appeared on the howard stern show in 2016 and gave his version of events and made a surprising revelation of the original script he was involved with and why he walked away.

in 2018 while promoting the film to the associated press Roger Taylor would slam cohen saying “It was never really on [with Cohen]. I don’t think he took it seriously enough — he didn’t take Freddie seriously enough. I think it’s [been] a long road, but we’re at the end of it now.”
Taylor echoed those feelings again this year with Classic Rock Magazine where he told the publication what have would happened if Baron Cohen played freddie saying “I think he would have been utter shit,” “Sacha is pushy, if nothing else. He’s also six inches too tall. But I watched his last five films and came to the conclusion he’s not a very good actor… I thought he was an utterly brilliant subversive comedian, that’s what he’s great at. Anyway, I think
