People's Party with Talib Kweli arriving soon!
A weekly interview show with big-name guests exploring hip-hop, culture, and politics.

From 1998 Album: "Mos Def & Talib Kweli Are Black Star"...[Artist info below].....

Black Star arose from the underground movement of the late 1990s, which was in large part due to Rawkus Records, an independent record label stationed in New York City. They released one self titled album. Though the record achieved little commercial success, they (and other members of the Native Tongues Posse) helped shape underground alternative rap and helped bring it further into the mainstream eye. Both have gone on to greater commercial and critical success in separate solo careers.

Black Star's emergence into the hip-hop scene came at a crucial point in music history. Following the deaths of both Biggie Smalls and Tupac Shakur, hip-hop was consumed in a world of chaos. Black Star attempted to bring reconciliation in the wake of these violent deaths. The self titled album contains various references to Biggie and Tupac, and attempts to create reconciliation in the hip-hop world: "I said one, two, three. It's kinda dangerous to be an M.C. They shot Tupac and Biggie. Too much violence in hip-hop."

In 2001, Black Star performed "Money Jungle" with Ron Carter and John Patton for the Red Hot Organization's compilation album Red Hot + Indigo, a tribute to Duke Ellington, which raised money for various charities devoted to increasing AIDS awareness and fighting the disease. In 2005, hip hop website TheSituation.co.uk reported Kweli has said that a new Black Star album was "in the pipeline".[1] On Talib Kweli's Myspace he posted up a video saying that "We're going to find Mos Def and put it on camera that there will be a second Black Star album." In 2006, Mos and Kweli appeared together in the movie Dave Chappelle's Block Party, alongside Erykah Badu, Common, Jill Scott, Dead Prez and The Fugees, among others. They even contributed a new song, "Born & Raised", to the movie's soundtrack.

The first new Black Star song was leaked via DJ J Rocc from Stones Throw Records. The song is produced by Madlib and is titled "Fix Up". On October 5th 2011 they appeared on the Colbert Report and performed it for the first time.

Lyrics:

Heavy breathing
I stay up with my feelings
They got me hooked ‘til sunrise
Chasing troubles
I’m dealing with my devil
She gets off when we fight

So I got high
All July
On a dream
And all my thoughts
Got lost
On the beach

So here we go again
Wild things, blazing
Lighting up the dark
Reckless, wasted
Rebels in the wind
Cool cats craving
The real thing

So here we go again
Wild things, blazing
Racing to the sun
Burn out, brazen
Everywhere we go, I’m still craving
The real thing
The real thing

Fallen angel
I got a call from God, he wants me to turn myself in
Woke in darkness
I got so close to hell on the way back to heaven
And so I’m dry except the crying defeat
And all my friends try pretend that I’m free, I am

So here we go again
Wild things, blazing
Lighting up the dark
Reckless, wasted
Rebels in the wind
Cool cats craving
The real thing

So here we go again
Wild things, blazing
Racing to the sun
Burn out, brazen
Everywhere we go I’m still craving
The real thing
The real thing

I hit the ground
Been coming way down, down
I loved you, baby
Loved it way too loud
I chase the pain
Into an ocean wave
I loved you, baby
Don’t love me the same

So here we go again
Wild things, blazing
Lighting up the dark
Reckless, wasted
Rebels in the wind
Cool cats craving
The real thing

So here we go again
Wild things, blazing
Racing to the sun
Burn out brazen
Everywhere we go I’m still craving
The real thing
The real thing

LYRICS
Earned my stripes, 300 tracks in my Adidas track jacket,
Bless your ear holes while you react,
Acting gobsmacked don’t hesitate to maybe overcompensate,
I feel like I was just here, same twitching in my eyes,
Don’t sleep on a boy who can’t fall asleep twice,
In the same night and won’t hesitate to maybe overcompensate.

I fly by the dangerous bend symbol,
Don’t hesitate to maybe overcompensate,
And then by the time I catch in my peripheral,
Don’t hesitate to maybe overcompensate.

Where am I from? I was born right here, just now,
Originated right in front of your eyes,
If you can’t see, I am Clancy,
Prodigal son, done running, come up with Josh Dun,
Wanted dead or alive,
So now you pick who you serve,
You bow to the masses,
Get kicked to the curb,
For passing the classes,
Half empty, half full, save half for your taxes,
Then overtake your former self.

Days feel like a perfect length,
I don’t need them any longer,
but for goodness sake,
Do the years seem
way too short for my soul,
corazón.

Letra:
Alguma coisa fala o meu coração
Ele me fala não mereço perdão
me sinto só
sem saber onde ir
eu fico pensando
amor eu quero
contigo viver
Pede pra ficar
baby juro eu não vou mais brigar
Pede pra ficar
eu te juro eu vou tentar mudar
Amor sem os teus beijos
eu vou enlouquecer
Pede pra ficar
amor, eu amo você

LYRICS:
Realms of the damned come crashing down
Collect the remains
Wake up and rise

Gates wide open now cease to be
World built by our blood, now far gone

I've come so far to see it all
…now far gone

I'm out of reason, I've stopped believing
Oh what I've become...
Find me a reason to believe in
A world beyond our reach

Skinned and beaten down, unwell obsession
Escape denied, controlled by paralyzed

I've come so far to see it all
Once untamed and feral
Now oppressed and done

I'm out of reason, I've stopped believing
Oh what I've become...
Find me a reason to believe in
A world beyond our reach

I didn’t come this far
Just to see everything is gone
I’m far beyond to waste it all
Overthrown…where do I go?

Find me a reason
Make me believe in…
A world beyond our reach

I'm out of reason, I've stopped believing
Oh what I've become...
Find me a reason to believe in
A world beyond our reach

I didn’t come this far
Just to see everything is gone
I’m far beyond to waste it all
Overthrown…where do I go?

In 1975 the lives of Bob Dylan and Rubin Carter intersected, and the result was the song Hurricane. A man convicted of murder and serving a life sentence releases his autobiography while in jail, and a public uprising ensues. Into this maelstrom Dylan released an 8 and 1/2 minute epic that describes the saga in detail. There are multiple backstories here that even fans of Dylan don't know. In this song analysis, I delve into the whole story behind the song. For more stories behind great songs, visit https://www.youtube.com/channe....l/UCC6JLaarSFDZjx0-w
