Queens holds a prominent place in the history of hip-hop, producing some of the greatest stars and hit songs we continue to enjoy today.

Run DMC, from Hollis, Queens, is widely considered to be one of the most influential hip-hop groups of all time. Joseph Simmons, now known as Reverend Run; DMC, who is Darryl McDaniel, and the late DJ Jam Master Jay took 1980s hip-hop beyond existing borders, both artistic and geographic. They took chances, like partnering with rock group Aerosmith to create the hit song, "Walk This Way."

📖 Lyrics written by Warren Denbrock Porter:
Deranged against the will of natures plan
To harmonize its past.
Eroded morals made a beast of man
In shadows good men cast.

Long awaits the scythe of death to taste
The secrets in his veins.
In plain sight hides the daughter bidding haste
To spite what she disdains.

Vengeance reigns as she bestows her knife
Inside the r*pists gut,
Entrails form a slick slithering heap of his life
Through viscera spilling and eyes falling shut.

Red blood once cold now scalds beneath the sun
Which lights his severed head.
Embalmed with self inflicted putrefaction,
Venom of the dead.

Embalmed with self inflicted putrefaction,
Venom of the dead

Violence frames the echoed beatings of
His tainted, phantom heart.
Impotent in what it means to love,
Left to rot and start.

Oppressing the Compassion, no Compassion
Impotent in what it means to love,
Left to rot and start...
Impotent in what it means to love.

The Gangsta Rap Prestige | The Complete and True Story of the Rise of NWA, Death Row and the Deaths of Eazy-E and Tupac Shakur | Part 1

Using various clips from interviews, I piece together a complete timeline narrative of the surrounding circumstances.

Part 1 is on the founding of NWA and Ruthless and the entrance of Suge Knight into the music business.

Part 2 is on the young life and revolutionary disposition of Tupac Shakur. This explains his relationship to the Black Panthers and other revolutionaries, as well as the link between the government's tactics to take down the Panthers (COINTELPRO - FBI, CIA, NSA, LAPD, NYPD, etc.) and how Tupac was targeted.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vi3noSYk3xw

Part 3 is about the beginning of the end for NWA, Suge meeting The D.O.C., Ice Cube leaving the group, and the beginning of Suge's infiltration into Ruthless and turning Dr. Dre. It also covers Eazy-E, Michel'le, The D.O.C.'s accident, The D.O.C.'s first album, and more.

LYRICS:

Starling swarms will soon be lorn.
Rooks tell stories ’cross the corn.
Goocoo soon will ’es leave make.
Swifts abandon autumn’s ache.
What says dunnick, drush or dove?
Love Me Tender? Tender love?

Hear the grinding wheel-bird grieve.
Grief unknits my ravelled sleeve.
Death of zummer, death of play,
Waxing night and dwindling day.
Help me dunnick, drush and dove.
Love Me Tender. Tender love.

Today we are talking about a man fairly well known within the Hip-Hop community but not necessarily for being an artist. A self-proclaimed gangster; Bang ‘em Smurf is quite an elusive character with very little in the way of a paper trail – but that’s probably due to his shady after-work activities. He grew up with 50 Cent and formed part of the original G-Unit posse before it was a rap group; messing with the rapper in the years before he took off. However the two had a falling out after 50 cleaned up his street image and signed with Shady Records; leaving his homies in Queens and ignoring Smurf when he was in jail. This led to a fairly-well publicized beef between the duo after Smurf got out with diss tracks coming from both sides. Bang ‘em teamed up with fellow former G-Unit artist Domination and they formed their own duo; founding a label and building it in an effort to rival G-Unit Records. Unfortunately while things were going well for him and it seemed Bang ‘em might become notorious and successful – perhaps the next Suge Knight but more on the low and less blacklisted; it all came crashing down after he was sent to jail to serve a 3.5 year bid. After serving his time; Smurf was immediately deported to Trinidad and Tobago; stalling his career once and for all. So with such a beef-feuled story; I hope you’re hungry – lets get into the video!

Lyrics:

Can you pull the curtains,
Let me see the sunshine?
I think I’m done with my hiding place
And you found me anyway
It’s been forever but I’m feeling alright
Tears dry and will leave no trace
And tomorrow’s another day

Hide and seek
I am somewhere closed away
You won’t believe
How long it’s been since I started the game
I can’t be seen
And you won’t find me today
I’ve not been this low but I’ll be okay

Are you alright? Maybe don’t ask
‘Coz you know I never like to talk about that
Keep it inside, yeah you say I always hold back
And I always wear long sleeves
Is it in your childhood? Something happen in your past?
Well the sadness, yeah I promise that it won’t last
And if I could I would try to take it all back
But there’s still more underneath
And it’s when you say to me

Can you pull the curtains,
Let me see the sunshine?
I think I’m done with my hiding place
And you found me anyway
It’s been forever but I’m feeling alright
Tears dry and will leave no trace
And tomorrow’s another day

Let me see the sun shine, shine, shine
Let me see the sun shine, shine, shine
Let me see the sun shine, shine, shine
Let me see the sun shine

Hide and seek
Count to ten and close your eyes
Try to breath
See a message and don’t reply
Nice to meet, but in reality say goodbye
Life can be so beautiful if you try

Are you okay? Yeah I guess so
But on some days I feel like I’m trapped in a hole
But I keep quiet so the ones around me don’t know
That the mountains feels so steep
And I’ll say that I’m here to help to carry the load
And the outside rays, they are good for the soul
So let’s step out of the dark ‘coz in here it’s so cold
The day’s not out of reach
And it’s when you say to me

Can you pull the curtains,
Let me see the sunshine?
I think I’m done with my hiding place
And you found me anyway
It’s been forever but I’m feeling alright
Tears dry and will leave no trace
And tomorrow’s another day

Let me see the sun shine, shine, shine
Let me see the sun shine, shine, shine
Let me see the sun shine, shine, shine
Let me see the sun shine
