Today’s feature is probably one of the best rappers turned behind the scenes figure in hip hop you never heard about. Or maybe you have because Red Cafe has been doing this for some time now, easily over 20 years in the game. But like a ghost, he was gone. He’s respected in multiple areas within the rap scene, but in his prime you could count on Cafe to come with the bars and the hits, not to mention throughout the 2000s and 2010s he kinda became known for some of the best mixtapes in the streets. Red Cafe was an artist always right on the cusp of transitioning into the mainstream but never quite got his foot in the right door resulting in over a lifetime in the game and only ever releasing 1 album. He transitioned into the background of music as a producer and Ghost writer since he was left behind by guys like French Montana and Fabolous. THE GHOST: Was Red Cafe Left behind? Gustaph won Belgium’s Eurosong 2023 competition with ‘Because Of You’ and will represent the country at the Eurovision Song Contest in Liverpool on 9, 11 & 13 May. This performance is from Eurosong 2023, courtesy of VRT.

Gustaph wrote his first song when he was only seven years old. At the age of nineteen he scored a hit with his first single ‘Gonna Lose You’, a song that he produced and wrote himself.

His soulful voice is popular both nationally and internationally. For six years he sang with the band Hercules & Love Affair, which had a worldwide hit in 2006 with 'Blind'. And Gustaph also has experience when it comes to the big Eurovision stage. As a backing singer, he has already participated in the Eurovision Song Contest twice: in 2018 in Lisbon with Sennek and in 2021 in Rotterdam with Hooverphonic, where he was also Geike Arnaert’s voice coach.

For the past year he has been working on his own material. Gustaph believes his catchy new songs are perfect for the Eurovision Song Contest - and this time not as backing, but right there in the foreground, in the spotlight.

Thank you to our friends at VRT for providing this performance.

In 1993, Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails set out to make the most disturbing collection of music videos ever made, the result was the short movie "Broken".

In a time where R&B music is almost becoming like the deceased memory of the hip hop Group, today’s feature really had a chance to bring it all back. I think the culture is waiting for strong black R&B music to make a return, and not in the sense of a couple people doing it here and there, but to the point it’s just as popular as hip hop or whatever you’ll call the destruction of what hip hop has become. His style of trap soul was genius leading into what you have in hip hop now, and from time to time he would pop up on his own song and lay a rap 16 or a few bars now and again. It was dope to be honest. Which is why his first and second album did so well. I remember him hitting the mainstream scene with the Single “Don’t” and “Trapsoul” and thinking wow, this is exactly what hip hop needs right now. An actual singer that can rap, and has a fresh new concept or spin on hip hop and rnb music. All that success he was having was not only because he is a good artist with a sound unique to him, but shows the void and demand in R&B, that he had the chance to fill and was doing that. Until it all just stopped. Could've Been The #1 R&B Artist In The Game! Stunted Growth Music

Since its inception, hip-hop, like punk music, has been used as a means to promote rebellion. Some of its most cherished voices made their names as outliers who boldly stood up to injustice and societal ills. From Chuck D to Mos Def, Dead Prez and Kendrick Lamar, these artists saw the systemic problems and did what they could to not only defy them, but shine a light on their roots that may have otherwise gone unseen by the masses.

However, what happens when a rapper uses hip-hop to propel dangerous sentiments?

Here, we find the Canadian born Tom MacDonald, a rapper who has simultaneously been ignored by the mainstream while picking up an immense amount of support among the more right-wing corners of white suburbia.

What is it like to be a child prodigy, and how does it feel to live with one? This music documentary follows the story of Maddox Marsollek, from Petershagen near Berlin. Maddox began playing the piano at the age of three and a half. Now, he practices three to four hours a day and is practically obsessed with music. He played his first concert in front of an audience at the age of five, and has since gone on to win numerous prizes at various music festivals around the world. His six-year-old brother Miles displays a similar talent—on the violin. Neither attend school; instead, they are both taught at home. It’s a challenge for their single mother to support these highly gifted children, but they can’t live without music. Is life as a child prodigy a blessing or a curse?
