Memphis Bleek joins Boardroom for the latest episode of On Record to revisit The Understanding, the platinum-selling sop****re album that arrived at the height of Roc-A-Fella Records' dominance. Bleek shares never-before-heard stories about Jay-Z, Beanie Sigel, Freeway, Kanye West, Just Blaze, Guru, and the legendary Baseline Studios era. He breaks down how The Dynasty came together, why he initially hated the beat for "Do My…," the truth behind famous Roc-A-Fella beat rumors, and what it was like watching Jay-Z's recent freestyle at Roots Picnic.

The conversation also explores Bleek's creative process, his relationship with Hov, the rise of State Property, the making of classic records like "Is That Your Chick" and "Holla," and the personal challenges he faced while promoting one of the biggest albums of his career.

Topics include:

4:40 — Jay-Z's Roots Picnic Freestyle & Roc Reunion
7:24 — Roc-A-Fella Records' Golden Era
8:06 — Baseline Studios Stories
13:31 — The Making of The Understanding
27:15 — The Creation of The Dynasty
28:38 — Kanye West & Just Blaze's Early Days

"Living It Up" Lyrics:
My daddy made it out!
Out of the ghetto
Believe in your dreams, believe you me
Don’t let go
We’re living it up!
We’re having a good time baby
I was born uptown
I’m the ghetto dream
Now ain’t life crazy?
My daddy made it out!
Out of the ghetto
Believe in your dreams, believe you me
Don’t let go
We’re living it up!
We’re having a good time baby
I was born uptown
I’m the ghetto dream
Now don’t be lazy

Trench Town have a grandson
Growing up to be somebody
Gong to the Zilly
Yo mi flow phenomenally
I am the kind of thing that doesn’t happen normally
I’m a one in a zillion
Yo Doggy if you want some
Good life finally
Perhaps change your night time hobby
Come out of the old crime lobby
And benefit from your wisdom
Mi a gwan live it up life is better than great
Every other day mi voice a dozen dub plate
Put in our hustle we nuh sit down and wait
Tuff up unnu muscle now is never too late
Fi gwan celebrate inna rich people place
The little Rasta Man from Trench Town fly the gate
With food inna plate and drinks inna crate
We sing till the neighbor dem wake

My daddy made it out!
Out of the ghetto
Believe in your dreams, believe you me
Don’t let go
We’re living it up!
We’re having a good time baby
I was born uptown
I’m the ghetto dream
Now ain’t life crazy?
My daddy made it out!
Out of the ghetto
Believe in your dreams, believe you me
Don’t let go
We’re living it up!
We’re having a good time baby
I was born uptown
I’m the ghetto dream
Now don’t be lazy

Uptown Jamaica born and raised
On the playground is where I spent most of my days
Burning Babylon and dem dirty ways
While watching all the rich kids gone a stay
Uptown Jamaica born and raised
On the playground is where I spent most of my days
Big city life Kingston and Mo-Bay
And if you think mi sell out tell dem ain’t no way
So... Live it up Trench Town to Rema
Riverton, South Side to Jungle
Sherlock, Garden, to Spangler’s,
Payne Land, Three Mile to Back-to,
Portmore, Seaview, Spanish Town,
Nine Mile, Browns Town to Flankers,
Falmouth, West Side, Orange Hill

My daddy made it out!
Out of the ghetto
Believe in your dreams, believe you me
Don’t let go
We’re living it up!
We’re having a good time baby
I was born uptown
I’m the ghetto dream
Now ain’t life crazy?
My daddy made it out!
Out of the ghetto
Believe in your dreams, believe you me
Don’t let go
We’re living it up!
We’re having a good time baby
I was born uptown
I’m the ghetto dream
Now don’t be lazy

Your eyes, alight in flames
Like lights along the way
The beautiful ones
Light up the world
So, we don't feel invisible

We're not made for war
Not unbreakable
We're all lost in the night

Love is chemical
Hearts so flammable
When we turn off the lights

The ritual fires
They light up and guide us
Shining inside us
Calling all la-la la

The ritual fires
The falling of triumphs
A beautiful riot
In all of us, la-la la-la-la

Oh oh-oh-oh oh-oh
Oh oh-oh oh-oh
Oh-oh-oh
Oh oh-oh-oh oh-oh
They light up and guide us
The ritual fires
Oh-oh-oh

Your eyes call out my name
Tonight we're all the same
And we are the sun, light up the world
The darkness's doom it's our ritual

We’re not made for war
Not unbreakable
We're just lost in the night

Love is chemical
Heart so flammable
So just turn off the lights (Ah-ah-ah-ah)

The ritual fires
They light up and guide us
Shining like diamonds
Calling all la-la la

The ritual fires
The falling of triumphs
A beautiful riot
In all of us, la-la la-la-la

Oh oh-oh-oh oh-oh
Oh oh-oh oh-oh
Oh-oh-oh
Oh oh-oh-oh oh-oh
They light up and guide us
The ritual fires
Oh-oh-oh

Ho you don't know nann nigga uh-uh

Put the gun off in yo mouth
Blow yo motherfucking brains out
Bitch you don't know nann nigga uh-uh
Who'll fall off in the club

Take the bar home for the thugs
Bitch you don't know nann nigga uh-uh
Who know mo' niggas than me
Who do mo' killings than me
And weigh mo' dope dealings than me
Bitch you don't know nann nigga uh-uh
Bitch you don't know nann nigga uh-uh
You don't know nann nigga

And you don't know nann nigga that wear mo' Polo shit than me
Bitch you don't know nann nigga uh-uh
Who do mo' freaky stuff
Eat the coochie wit the legs up
Then I blow it all in yo butt
And I don't know nann ho uh-uh
Who liked the dick like you
Who'll bite the dick like you
Ol' lil dykin bitch like you
And I don't like a bitch like you
I'll fight a bitch like you
Ol' trifling bitch like you
Ain't no telling what you might do
Bitch you don't know nann nigga uh-uh
Ho you don't know nann nigga uh-uh

Uh-Uh-Uh
Hold up who the fuck this nigga think he is
I ain't ashamed of nothing I do
Hold up check this shit out

You don't know nann ho uh-uh
Don' been the places I been
Who can spend the grands that I spend
Fuck bout 5 or 6 best friends
And you don't know nann ho uh-uh

Ole' lil awful thang like me
You don't know nann ho uh-uh

Lyrics:
Oh no!!
Y yo no encuentro quien ocupe tu lugar,
Aquí te voy a esperar,
Por si quieres regresar,
Aquí te voy a esperar,
Aquí te voy a esperar,
Por si quieres regresar,
Aquí te voy a esperar,
Aquí te voy a esperar,
Ya ven y ven mamita ven, ya ven y ven.
Por si quieres regresar,
Aquí te voy a esperar.
Uyy!! esto sigue,
Ataca Sergio,

TiTAN

Verse1:
We stand eye to eye
U try and set a fire
Just to watch me burn
It's like you don't know

That I will survive
Learned how to stay alive
Come and throw your flames
Cause it's all in vain

Pre:
Even if i fall, I'm gon' get up
I'll be standing tall, proud, with my head up
Go head and give your best shot

Chorus:
I won't go down
I'll never break
Like a titan I'll be brave
Tonight
I'll rise

I won't give up
Fight 'till the end
Every tears gonna ricochet
I rise
Rise
I’m a TiTAN in disguise

Verse2:
I bet u thought that i would crumble, but i wont
U thought i wouldn't make it out here On my own
U thought u'd see me broken, I'm going strong
Still going strong
Got an armor round my heart, its unbreakable
Got my feet on the ground, I'm unshakable
And If u think i won't survive, than you're so wrong
You’re so wrong

Chorus:
I won't go down
I'll never break
Like a titan I'll be brave
Tonight
I'll rise

I won't give up
Fight 'till the end
Every tears gonna ricochet
I rise
Rise
I’m a TiTAN in disguise

Chorus:
I won't go down
I'll never break
Like a titan I'll be brave
Tonight
I'll rise

I won't give up
Fight 'till the end
Every tears gonna ricochet
I rise
Rise
I’m a TiTAN in disguise

LETRA

Si yo muero gangster en el calentón
Es por culpa de el sistema
Las medidas son extremas
Por ley ruedo con mi provisión
Descargándole el selecta
Jhay Co “La Presión”

Si yo muero gangster en el calentón
Es por culpa de el sistema
Las medidas son extremas
Por ley ruedo con mi provisión
Descargándole el selecta
Jhay Co, La…

Si me matan no me atrapan
Shorty no apretes las tapas
Envuelta con tus amigas
Fucking sapas que te tapan
Demuéstrame lealtad
Que no es de boca ni en chapa
Disque matan y asesinan
Fuck ni uno son Japa

Con los enemy, dime si tú vas a mí
Porque si me entero shorty
Vas a mostrosiarme a mi

AK Cuatro Cero
Con miras expansivas
Los coches son certeros

Si yo muero gangster en el calentón
Es por culpa de el sistema
Las medidas son extremas
Por ley ruedo con mi provisión
Descargándole el selecta (yoo)
Jhay Co, La…

En este juego todo se vale
Gyales te cambian por reales
Hermano si ella copia bien
Si no pisa y que dale
Es que no quiero meterme
Pero todas son iguales
Cha bien cabriao
Maquinando ando en un estado crítico

No salgo del chantin sin el acrílico
Chacal no creo en mujeres
Tengo el cora sintético
Si tú te volvieras atlético
Y te lanzamos donde no haya paramédico

Ah la bebe, siempre me grita “ay”
Prendemos un feeling
Quedamos en Jamai..ca
Me preguntó si voy a estar cuando caiga
Nunca doble, mami va a la marca
